Hello, I am so sorry to hear that this god awful pain is effecting you too. It took me over 5 years to find an answer to the similar pain I've been going threw. My calve and foot hurt so bad that I literally wanted to cut my leg off just to seek some sort of relief. It begins in my baby toe then goes to all of my toes and up my leg. Sometimes it's just my toes. The pain gets so severe especially around my big and baby toe nail that I've almost pulled my toe nails off. My ankle swells up along with my leg. I hoped figuring out what it was would help but it hasnt. I have a horrible back and sciatic nerve issues. Apparently this pain comes from my sciatic nerve and they also belive I have a pinched nerve in my foot. These things are hard to be 100% about. But my doc said it could also be from high blood pressure and or slight diabetes or even a small blood clot in my foot. Blood tests came back fine. Nerve tests showed decreased sensitivity at times and the other nerve test showed high snsitivity. Depends on if I'm numb or in pain I guess. But I am on alot of Norco tic pain relievers and it does help but not fully. When it flares up badly I soak in a hot bath with Epsom salt lavender and hylecrysanthium (it's spelled wrong) oil. Just a few drops because of how strong essiential oils are but don't be shy with the Epsom salt. I soak for about 30 to 45 minutes

And I usually get some releif. But I would certinly ask your doctor about sciatic nerve damage and or a pinched nerve in your foot which apprentice is easy to do. All it takes is rolling your ankle slightly and can pinch the main nerve in your foot. If not those then check your heart out along with blood pressure and diabetes. It may only be slightly elevated but still in a normal range but if it's elevated specific ly for you then it can be causing the pain as well. They were able to diagnose me once I had an mri and a few other tests like an mri. But I still live with the pain daily. I wish I never began taking Norco tic pain killers because it now only makes the pain worse if I don't take them and I had being leashed to a pill multiple times times day. Naprosyn seems to help along with drinking lots of water. I hope you find some relief soon. I know how horrible it is to live with that type of pain.

Hello justme67, I'm knew to this forum. I have a numb left leg and foot I've had it for a year now. Started last August in both legs and was admitted to hospital had blood tests and scan but all came back clear. I had a spinal fusion on L4 L5 in 2011 and not been the same since. I had another mri in March and waiting results. I take Gabapentin 3 times aday, oramorph solution, amatriptyline , oxycodone my life's just not so good at the mo. Can't get about due to the pain and discomfort this causes I have a heat pad on constant and lay down a lot I do try and walk about but this just causes more discomfort.

Any more news on your condition. Thanks Helen😄

Hi Ive just been reading through all your symptoms and My numbness started 2 years ago in my right leg and it's now my whole leg and foot. I've now started feeling tingling in my right arm as well. I've had MRI scans and they found a growth on the bottom of my spine which damaged the nerves so basically this is permanent damage. They said they are not worried if my symptoms don't change but I've been finding my leg feels heavier the last few weeks but I suffer with back problems and my back has been playing up. So don't know if this is connected?! It really worries me, does anyone else find it can feel more numb somtimes??

    Hi, Derek

When I had my recent check up the neurologist was pleased to note that after 10 years of continual numbness it has not affected my walking at all - hence diagnosis of small fibre neuropathy. She said it would be of more concern if I was falling so the fact that you're struggling with balance suggests you do need further investigation to ascertain the cause.  Despite the numbness I have a reasonable sense of the kind of surface I'm walking on, although occasionally I can't tell if my slippers, for example, have slipped off or not.  You're obviously having stronger symptoms so worth pushing for further investigation I'd have thought.

As my symptoms have worsened quite suddenly in the past three weeks I am looking outside the box and thinking they are drug and cardiac related. I had AF in the past caused by surgical procedures and the irregular heart rate since the end of January that I was prescribed Bisoprolol for was finally diagnosed as Brady Tachycardia and I am waiting for a pacemaker. Many of the symptoms and side effects are similar and I stopped the Bisoprolol last Wednesday. Physically I felt much worse on Thursday/Friday/Saturday and Sunday but a lot better today and some feeling has come back into my foot.

I had a head CT scan in March that was asked for by a consultant at the hypertension centre after I told him of headaches I had been having since the end of October when the numbness also worsened.

The CT scan was normal but todays neurologist wants a head MRI scan and motor nerve conduction tests. The MRI scan will be very soon as it cannot be done when I have a pacemaker unless they fit one of the newer types that withstand magnetic waves.

I had the nerve conduction tests last week. Without atually giving me any result the doctor doing it suggested that I should have a back MRI scan. I told him that I was having a pacemaker fitted in five days time so it would obviously not happen in that time.

They did fit an MRI compatible pacemaker but said that before I could have a scan it would have to be in place for eight weeks and be checked. Life is one long wait.

    Hi to Everybody

New to this thread but a fairly regular poster on Hip Replcement thread - operation 9th November - however I digress

I too have this restlessness in my legs / tingle / numbness etc sometimes from buttocks all the way down to the lower leg / ankle area - quite wired but at times it feels as though my left leg is lifting off the ground - very strange !

Cramp at night time mainly hurts like hell and I mean like hell.

i was sent by the specialist doing my THR for a nerve conduction test - for those unsure this involves a neurologist sticking needles connected to a computer into your legs at various positions - perhaps as many as 12.

you are supposed see nothing or hear nothing on the computer as you are laid down relaxing - my right leg was just that - quiet / zero / still on the graphical readout

However my left leg was very noisy and the readout was up and down like a yoy yoy

I was sent for 27 blood test (yes 27 vials taken out of me) 3 x MRI and 2 CT scans - all returned normal - except evidence of Spinal Stenosis which we already knew.

So much scratching of heads all around

The sensations became worse as did the cramps etc and you could see the calf muscle twitching / moving on its own as if there were worms or moles moving around inside of my leg.

From the hip replacement forum I was directed to a local lady who reportedly had magic fingers while giving you a massage.

I went to see her 4 weeks ago and using Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release techniques has rid me of 75 / 80% of the sensations / cramps - a total of 6 x 1 hr sessions.

With respect to all reading itis far to long for me to type what she explained about muscles tightening around nerve ends causing the sensations I was suffering but please read about Piriformis muscles - I am not saying it's a sciatic problem

When the lady releases the muscle tightness / knots the pain is high on the 1 to 10 scale but the feeling of relief afterwards is a joy.

When  pain / sensation is high I found squaring relieved the feeling (again this is a sciatic trick also) or balancing on a step and doing "ankle drops" this streches the calf muscles allowing relief to the nerve ends.

I forgot to mention the specialist said I had "Peripheral Nerve "Hyperexcitability" try reading up on that.

my massage lady also advised supplements of Vitamin D & Magnesium which I have started taking 7 days ago - so I will see what that does

    Hope you all stay safe

I had nerve conduction tests last week and am waiting to hear the results.

I assumed that noise was usual during the procedure. I made a lot of noise. The doctor doing the tests was of the opinion lack my numbness, lack of feeling was probasbly coming from my lower back and was going to suggest a back MRI to my referring neurologist

    Hi Justme67,

I have a similar problem, however my doc says I have either circulation problems or pinched nerves.

I found that when I slowly stretch my back, hips, sides.  I seem to feel better.

Talk to your doctor to see what they say.
