Numbness, weakness, tingling left side of my body, what can I do to get rid of it?

Numbness, tingling, and weekness on the whole left side of my body... I thought maybe I got shocked but I'm not really sure.  I'm 50 years old and my period has been on and off for the past year. For the past 5 days now I can't walk or use my left side for anything...I went to the er and did all kinds of Tests and found nothing and that there is nothing they can do for me. I don't know what to do. My doctor thought I was having a stroke but the hospital said I was too young and the tested confirmed that it's not a stroke so now what? I'm really scared that I will be like this forever!!! I hope that this is just my horomones.  Has anybody had this happened to them before  ???

Yes I’ve been getting tingling too in my head and all over my body just another symptom of meno . Don’t worry about it too much it’ll probably go as quickly as it came . I was checked out too and all good .

Let me tell you if that’s your only symptom just be thankful many ladies on this forum are going through so much worse including myself so don’t worry you’ve been checked out it’s just bloody hormones !!!

well it's not just tingling but numb and weak. I can't really walk anymore or do anything with with my left  hand.  Haven't been able to work, or even take care of myself period. I'm really scarred that this isn't going to go away.

Maybe a disc out of alignment, a virus. Keep on top of this until you get an answer. I've had tingling mostly on my right side, but no weakness. Mine was diagnosed ms. This lasted six weeks, then sporadically on and off. Not to much anymore. I also had two discs in my neck with osteoarthritis, that could have been part of the problem. Worked with a chiropractor and had good results. Best wishes to you, stay strong!

MS????? are you sure ??? I got tested for that about 2 years ago and came back clear . I don’t have any weakness in my body it’s more like if I sneeze or get any kind of pain I also get a tingling in my head or Limbs.

Just had all my blood done and I’m healthy so I’m putting all these new things down to meno.

I must say I am always second guessing my diagnosis. There is no definitive test for ms. MRI did show a few lesions. When I was diagnosed is when I started noticing hormone changes.I have also read on this forum about many women experiencing the tingling. I did get a second opinion, but lots of people are misdiagnosed.

      Hi Michelle

i was curious about what went on with your neck, and the chiropractor. I love chiropractor as they are the few that have been able to help my neck. What does your xray xray about your neck?

Ive had chronic neck issues that subside for months and then return, but ive got bone spurring on the facets-and its constantly guarding my neck, careful with sleep etc.

This and menopause has created many emotional upsets as its all tied together, literally..

hope you are well, just reachin out

Hi Mauiblue, I had no pain, but my head always felt heavy. My xray showed my first two discs a little crooked and on top of each other. I was told osteoarthritis. The chiropractor wanted to get more movement in my neck. Worked with him three times a week for three months, then tapered off. He said blood flow and my tingling could be caused by this. All I know is my results were good, ting!ing has mostly gone away.

    Hello Paulai,

Did a neurologist check you out in the ER?  If not, you may want to get checked out further if it doesn't subside sometime soon or if you start to feel worse.  Take care (((hugs)))

A neurologist did review my results and came back normal. I kept mentioning my hormones and maybe they had something to do with this.. I was just wondering if it's normal to have this feeling on one side of your body with no changes.

The only time I experienced something like this was a flare up of MS.  I have a definite diagnosis...definitely not a misdiagnosis as I've had other problems with optic neuritis, double vision and visible damage (see on MRI results) to my cervical spinal cord and brain.

One flare up I had was 2009 when the left half of my body when numb. It didn't go away and lasted for months.  I also have permanent numbness in my feet that doesn't "come and go"  from damage of another flare up.  I was still undiagnosed at the time although I had the "possible MS" diagnosis.  Sometime it takes years to get a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm not saying you have MS as there are other "differential diagnosis" --meaning there are things that mimic MS.

I really think you need to get a second opinion even though you checked out "fine" by the ER neurologist.  If you find out it is "just hormones" then OK - but if it is something that needs immediate attention, all the better that you get the help you need.   One of your posts says that you aren't able to walk right or take care of yourself properly... That concerns me.  It seems pretty extreme to be just  hormones.

If you can, find a neurologist and get an appointment.  I know hormones can wreak havoc on your body and have caused all sorts of problems for me personally but if I were experiencing what you are, I would get a second opinion from a professional.  I really hope you can get some definite answers and feel better soon!  I  really do!  wink

Hi Jane, I was diagnosed with ms. Wondering if your hormones have made your condition worse?

Sorry jane, yes I read your post. I do get the sweats and am somewhat tired. But have experienced nothing else. What ms symptoms were exasperated from hormones? Thank you for your imput.

      Hello again Michelle,

Well at about 43 years old is when I had the half-body numbness. I did go a few years without much problem until the hot flashes night sweats began at 46 years old. That's when I had the flare the caused the numbness in my feet. I also had a couple of episodes where my torso was so extremely painful I thought I was getting a bout of shingles. I couldn't stand anything touching my skin. I've had numbness and tingling in the arms and hands during that time. That did subside. I also had weakness in both my legs during a flare.

Once I was officially diagnosed in 2012, I was told to get on medication. I refused and figured I would be fine. I was stupid to do so because in 2013 I ended up with double vision very bad that landed me in the ER and a three-day hospital stay. I had three days of IV steroids. I finally did it get on Copaxone and have been stable for 5 years. But now I don't know whether my fatigue is MS or if it's perimenopause. I'm figuring once I actually go through menopause and I'm on the other side I'll know for sure. I just know the “possible MS” became absolutely positive MS in my mid-forties when I started experiencing perimenopause. I

've seen the MRI results with the lesions on my cervical spinal cord. I also still have residual double vision when I look up to my left. So, I am left with damage. Not something that comes and goes. They say the instance of MS is a lot higher in women than men and I can't help but believe that hormones have some kind of factor in it. That's just my take.

Thank you Jane for sharing. I'm glad your meds work for you. I am also confused about what is ms and what is hormonal. nobody else can tell me either.

you're welcome!  It does seem like some of the symptoms of MS and Peri overlap.  It can be confusing sometimes.
