I am the same wish I never started taking the drug doctors will always say to cut down slowly even when on the lowest dose but then you are atill taking the drug and it's still getting in your system I just wanted the drug out my system so I just withdrew suddenly no lasting 2 weeks

I suffered about the same for 2 weeks the withdrawl didn't get worse was just awful anyway

I've been on 15mg mirt for 7 weeks. I had no idea withdrawal would be so bad.

I decided yesterday to go ct. Today I've been fine. Then I read your thread, and basically I could be ok for 5 days. Feeling like I do today I can't imagine feeling anything else. Tomorrow is my first day back at work after a 2 month absence I'm wondering if this is the right time to try and stop.

If things get that bad how did you continue to work?

Well its up to you I wouldn't advise just going ct without speaking to your GP first I didn't speak to my GP but I was so desperate to just come of it.

When you know you have to work you just do simple as that

Its a shame you couldn't go cold turkey ... yeah its hard of course it is and you need to have the strength and courage to do it like you are so many people can't face the fact of going cold turkey so they stay on the medication for longer.

Be aware that if you go about a week without taking any you will start to have with-drawl signs as your body will think ' the drug is out my system ' sort of thing but then if you take another tablet then a break then more all I am saying is the drug will never really get out your system unless you are strong and go cold turkey.

Can I ask how old are you ?

I have been on anti - depressants different ones for 9 years and I have done what you are doing now - cutting down slowly and its terrible as the drugs just stay in the body though doctors will always always say to cut slowly this process can take up to 5 months think do you really want to be on this drug for possibly that long ?

I know its hard I really do but you can do it stay strong.

Not much else I can say its your choice at the end of the day loads of people don't have the strength to go cold turkey but you do.

Well no more I can say !

    Hi everyone.

I just recently joined this site! Everyone's comments have been both helpful and totally scary!

I live in Canada so I'm guessing it's the wee hours of the morning right now in the UK.

my circumstance has a bit of a twist: I have a nine week baby boy and my doctor told me to go back on my

Meds after delivery (Cipralex). I had such anxiety because of the sleepless nights that he put me on 20 mg. way higher than I was on before (5 mg). I still couldn't relax. Went to post partum clinic to get some support and the psychiatrist told me the cipralex was probably giving me insomnia. Went off of it after taking it for 3 weeks. Gradually but still fast as far as I'm concerned. He put me on Mirtazipine 30 mg. it was working well for about 2 weeks combined with 7.5 mg of immovane. Now after a month I feel horrible. Crying spells, extreme fatigue dizziness and drowsiness. I know I have a newborn but I feel like I'm walking around in a complete fog. Aches and pains like the flu.

Not sure if I'm experiencing withdrawal from cipralex or if mirtazipine is not agreeing with me!

    Appreciate any insight!

    Signed,

    Overwhelmed and confused wink

    Thank you Sarah

I know what you are saying is absolutely right. up. I know I need to be strong and I can be! The problem for me is I've just returned to work after 2 months - I am a special school teacher and could not afford to give the kids any less than 100%.

The only withdrawal symptom I appear to be getting is waking in the night with very vivid thoughts about things happening in my life and they stay with me until I get up.

    I'm 47.

I took mirt last night after a 2 day break, I honestly thought if I have one then I'll at least have a good nights sleep. Unvoftunatley I didn't sleep any differently as when I wasn't taking them. If lack of sleep is going to be my only withdrawal symptom I could go ct no problem. Only who am I kidding.

I need to give this some serious thought, I do know I want off.

I think that advising anyone to just stop taking a drug isn't the best advice. You should really try to wean yourself off of it in small amounts to prevent feeling so rotten. It can really mess with your head as well just stopping medication, I definately don;t think it's anything to be proud of. I've made that mistake with a few different anti depressants when I was first diagnosed and a slow wean is always the answer. I tried to just stop medication a few times when I thought I didn't need them (This was a few years ago when I was in denile about being ill) and I had horrific side effects which were unneccessary.

I'm currently weaning off of Mitrazipine after only 3 weeks on the drug - the hip and leg pain was unbearable! So I am weaning slowly until I can start on another drug.

At the end of the day it's the persons choice weather they with - drawl suddenly or slowly either way you are still going to experience with - drawl as the lowest dose is 15mg and every time you take another tablet it's getting in your system again.

I have taken anti - depressants since I was 16 and coming off some of them have with drawl slowly and some cold turkey anti - depressants aren't that ad

It sounds like you had a horrible time coming off Mitrazipine. I hope you are feeling better soon. By a slow wean I did mean going down to smaller doses than the 15mg, 7.5mg then every other day etc etc.. So it's not taking another tablet for the same amount to be in your body. I'm glad you managed to get off of them ok but it sounds like you had a hard time.

    ... addictive.

3 weeks you have been on it you haven't even given the drug a chance to work if you keep on being on a drug for about 3 weeks a time it's not good for your body if you take a anti - depressants it needs to get in to your system and stay in the system for it to work that's what I think.

Going cold turkey off 15mg mirt isn't really that bad will just feel very tired and have flu signs but that's as bad as it gets and it only lasts for about 14 days.

If you really don't want to be on a drug then don't be just go cold turkey just get it out your system with drawling slowly is a process that takes about 5 months not good anyway that's just what I think and I think don't always listen to gps if they say to go on drug as they will always but you don't want to ask about other options don't just give in anti - depressants just make a person feel numb.

My reactions have been quite severe so coming off of it now is actually needed. And I'm sorry but coming off a drug overnight isn't safe, especially if someones had as severe reaction as I have. But I guess we can just agree to disagree smile It's always good to see how other people have done things and what they have experienced.

I am a medical profressional as well so I guess I have seen a bit more of these kind of withdrawls. Wierd to be a patient again!

Sally the side effects that you had are so similar to how I felt and its horrible I hate taking drugs as the effects at first are really bad and coming off them is so hard.

Sure it must be weird being a health care professional can I ask what you do ?
