OLP

HI, I was diagnosed with OLP about a year ago. Despite giving up all spicey foods, all fruit except bananas, spirits (didnt drink much anyway) reduced wine consumption (couple of glasses a month max); teeth cleaning several times a day with Colgate Pro relief sometimes (dentisit prefers me to) Colgate Herbal which is great and sometime Aloe Vera toothpaste (variable discomfort), Difflam mouthwash as and when and prednisilone tablets used as a moth wash, im still in a lot of discomfort.  I've tried oil pulling with coconut oil, drank aloe vera juice which provides instant relief whilst in my mouth but not after, salt rinses which make my teeth and gums ache...no change.  I had a biopsy taken from my tongue and upper gum which confirmed the diagnosis. Im now getting more marks and spots on my tongue and white marks on my cheeks. My tongue burns and my gums are throbbing and aching.  I havent given up tea...your thoughts?  I dont drink coffee. Any suggestions/comments welcome, thanks.

hi, i had lichun planus a few years ago and got rid of it. i used soemthing called dr wheatgrass cream on my arm. my mum has some other condition that i just tonight thought maybe this cream could help. then i thought maybe i should tell more people about it. its just really hard to do without looking like i am spamming trying to sell some hippy expensive stuff that doesnt do anything. believe me it really helped me though. just google it. there is something they do called supershots that might help oral lichun planus if you swish around in your mouth. seriously give it a try. after i got rid of mine i didnt stop looking at my arm for like a month with a big grin on my face. good luck people

Hi karen, Im not too bad thanks.  I have been busy running crochet workshops so sorry for the delay in replying! Up until 2 days ago I was much improved but then i developed an ulcer type thing in my mouth on that fleshy part between your top and bottom teeeth -  right back...so, its sore if any food catches it and to be honest I think that if I have anything thats sweet it hurts more too, so Im going to have to curb my sweet tooth - or that biscuit with my cup of tea!.  I liked what Renee suggested, but I would struggle with the citrus fruit day as the only fruit I can eat wothout it really hurting me is bananas. But a variation on a theme might be possible.  How are you?  Are you been managing to find some "me" time? I hope so.  I have found that when that has been possible for me, I really do feel so much better. Im looking forward to hearing from you and thnak you for making contact, I do appreciate it. Gx

Hi Gail...instead of the citrus...which I diluted tremendously...you can substitute a vegetable juice with some greens & carrots.  I know the citrus can be bothersome.  If I get another ulcer I'm going to try rubbing some coconut oil on it...heard that was helping with the skin type...so worth a try.  And on another forum a woman suggested swishing or drinking aloe vera juice when you have ulcers.

Hi gail.   Lovely to hear from you I'm glad you've been busy keeps your mind busy too, I know how you feel a few good days then it bloody bounces back again, it's so annoying. I find that after eating sweet things which I love I get problems in my mouth and itchiness on my skin. I stop them for a while then I have no will power. Maybe I would lose some weight if I cut out the goodies I seemed to have put much weight on lately, how about you? I also would struggle with citrus fruit, iv been really busy the past week been to the lakes for my daughters 18th was lovely. Trying to chill today Katie's in Paris with her boyfriend does make me feel better. Did you ever look into hpv and lichens I do think it is the cause I seem to have different problems that I relate to that?  Oh well think I will put the kettle on now so take care gail and I will speak to you soon X

Hi Gail.  I have some tips for you.  I live in the US and I have been researching resetting my immune system which can eliminate both Lichen Planus and Lichen Sclerosis.  I also started treating my LS by only brushing my teeth with very finely ground activated charcoal from bamboo. I use a tiny scoop to put some in the palm of my hand and follow it with a salt water rinse. This has kept the worst of it at bay as it is totally non-irritating. Messy, yes...but you get better at it and there is no taste.  Today I am at the end of a 5 day fast...will start introducing food tomorrow. I'm totally amazed that my symptoms are already beginning to subside...my mouth has healed considerably in the past days without any new lesions popping up...and the LS on my legs has improved greatly. I will visit your post again in a couple of weeks to let you know if the fasting has had the desired result...total healing. Please note: I began this fast with my doctors blessing...otherwise I'm in good health.  It has been a bit difficult...but not as bad as I thought it would be in giving up food.  I did allow myself the juice of two lemons and the juice of two oranges each day along with lots and lots of water and non-caffeine herbal tea.

Hi renee what do you think caused your lichens have you ever had an abnormal smear test I think it is connected, how old are you only it seems quite common in the over 50s xx

I inherited this awful stuff in my 50's...first in the private areas...then to my lower limbs and then to my mouth.  And yes, once did have an abonormal smear test...but when they redid it everything was normal. I have found that just a dab of organic pure aloe vera gel does stop the itching in the private areas and seems to keep it away for a long time...a tip in case others are experiencing this nasty stuff there also  I've also been told that this can be triggered my a hormonal imbalance and/or by an allergic reaction to something.  It seemed to start with me with the use of prescription estrogen creams...I've heard that one of the ingredients used in that has caused allergic reactions in a number of women.  Wiykd be nice to know the trigger so that people could avoid it.

Thanks renee I had an abnormal smear about 13 years ago for which I had a cone biopsy and I noticed I started with this around the same time, it has got much worse recent, in my privates and arms and scalp and mouth, I think the hpv virus triggers it though it can be caused by other things as well, I constantly worry about this, my gp has given me anti depressants but I think there is definetly a connection but my gp won't admit it, I have discussed this with Gail too she had same treatment as me. Xx

I had an ultrasound that showed excess edometrial tissue that signaled possible unterine cancer. They couldn't do the biopsy until 6 weeks later...so I took matters into my own hands and eliminated all estrogenic foods, supplements from my diet, ate lots of fruits & veggies, did the essential sugars...not the t types for baking, and took a Chinese herb called Coptis...to help remove the excess estrogen from my system. When the biopsy was done, the doctor was shocked...he said everything was gone and he was certain the biopsy would come back negative. AND IT DID!  Such a relief.
