OLP

HI, I was diagnosed with OLP about a year ago. Despite giving up all spicey foods, all fruit except bananas, spirits (didnt drink much anyway) reduced wine consumption (couple of glasses a month max); teeth cleaning several times a day with Colgate Pro relief sometimes (dentisit prefers me to) Colgate Herbal which is great and sometime Aloe Vera toothpaste (variable discomfort), Difflam mouthwash as and when and prednisilone tablets used as a moth wash, im still in a lot of discomfort.  I've tried oil pulling with coconut oil, drank aloe vera juice which provides instant relief whilst in my mouth but not after, salt rinses which make my teeth and gums ache...no change.  I had a biopsy taken from my tongue and upper gum which confirmed the diagnosis. Im now getting more marks and spots on my tongue and white marks on my cheeks. My tongue burns and my gums are throbbing and aching.  I havent given up tea...your thoughts?  I dont drink coffee. Any suggestions/comments welcome, thanks.

Hi Karen, sorry about that. We are away at the moment and have just got access to the Internet! I hope you are ok and not feeling to bad with the OLP at the moment?  Mine was ok until about 2 minutes ago as I had a piece of shortbread with a cup of tea and the sugar has really hurt my tongue! Apart from that, it's been ok on and off with occasional mouth ulcers appearing but going overnight. I'm due to go back to the dentists for a check at the end of the month so he will have a good look for me too. I'm getting very tired though as my powers surges (hot flushes) are quite bad and I get between 4-7 between midnight and 7.30am so my sleep is interrupted and I feel quite tired, but as I'm on hols, I can have a siesta now and then to keep me going!  I hope you are doing ok. Apols again for the break in communication. Take good care. Gx

Hi Karen, good to hear from you. Yes the break was great thanks. Sorry to hear that you arent feeling 100%. I should think that the divirce will be stressing you out and wont help with the OLP.  I still have white patches and lines in my mouth and a patch on my tongue but have decided that Im in control and not OLP, so Im just getting on with stuff. Its still sore and burns at times, but I have decided `im not giving in to it!!  I have found a toothpaste which is really good - Colgate Herbal. I get it from spain as I cnat get it int he UK but its great. I have shown it to my dentist and hes happy woth the contents as he wasnt happy about me using the aloe toothpaste as there wasnt any flouride in to protect my teeth. so I use this new one and twice a week use colgate Total for sensitive teeth and they are fine. I also use Difflam mouthwash occasionally, and especially before going for my dental check up and that helps too. I hope you are having a good May day weekend. The sun has just come out here so i might be tempted to go out for a walk! Take good care Karen xxx

Hi Karen, it's good to hear from you, strangely, I was going to get in touch this evening and you beat me to it! I will think of you on 1 June. It's a very stressful time for you, and I wish you lots of good thoughts to keep you going. You are right about the itching along with personal heat waves! My back and arms are like that. I've treated myself to Neals Yard body lotion and that really helps. I'm struggling at the moment as I also have a hey hips and knees which along with the heat waves mean I get about 2 hours sleep and then wake all through the night. After a few nights in a row like that life becomes very difficult and even more stressful doesn't it, so a good cry in the shower helps and then I don't look like i have done several rounds with henry cooper!!  Perhaps we could try to find each other on Facebook  and message that way and then it's not so public.?? What do you think? I have a page called  Woolleymead, try that. Apols to the editor if I shouldn't have put this on the page. Take good care Karen and hope to chat again soon.

If you go into Facebook, in the middle of the page at the top there will be a magnifying glass for searching, put the name in there, not under friends...fingers crossed! X
