After suffering chronic olp from two years I have finally seen a brilliant surgeon at guys London turned out I had extremely high thrush count too so I'm on Nystatin and flixonase which I mix together with 10ml water and swish for 3 minutes for three months to keep both problems at bay and my mouth is pain free at last all ulcers and soreness has gone hallelujah !!

I thought flixonase was only a nasal spray?

It's the nasule drops he said to empty on pipette in the water with the nystan for olp ! It's working anyway xx he said if you use just steroids for olp it will give you oral thrush that's why I'm using both medicines he's the first doctor who I've seen who seems clued up !! I'm so happy to be out of miserable daily pain I hope other people may try this and find relief god bless you all xxx

This sounds amazing Marypooh - was the specialist your local doctor or were you referred especially? I’m so fed up of seeing my doctor and just being given the same thing over and over even though I’ve said it doesn’t work!

My local doc referred me because you need a specialist in this field local doctors don't really know enough about olp !!

Where is this Dr Cook?  In the United States?

I doubt my gp would be able to make a referral to him, we are in the West Midlands!

Well I'm from Kent so it's a fair train journey for me but well worth it ! Maybe there's a dental surgeon at your local hospital that could help ? I just want everyone with olp to get a treatment that works for them . I didn't even know I had oral thrush it was only coz they did a saliva test at guys !! Wishing you luck x

I see a dental surgeon at my local hospital - I saw one for about a year who then referred me to someone for a second opinion who I’ve been seeing for about a year now too. He’s a nice doctor but I’m just not convinced, every time I see him it’s like he’s forgotten my diagnosis and what we’ve tried before and suggests the same things?! I had an experimental treatment that was for People having transplants but no luck, aside from that it’s been the same things tried before. I’ve also not been given any information about the condition at all since I was diagnosed apart from being told it’s not curable and a little like eczema with flare ups. My experience is not like that mine has been the same if not worse for two years and so painful! It’s such an awful condition I’m so glad you’ve got some relief from it

This is my understanding to date. 11 months.

Yeast is an opportunistic disorder. It invades your weakened immune system from the Lichen Planus. Treat both. Take the antifungal in pill or swish form along w steroid. Additionally I take an immunosuppressant. On this regimen for 4 weeks now.

He said I can't take immunosuppressants coz my cells are half as low as the recommended lowest rate already he said if I took them I would not be leaving hospital !! But hopefully the nystan/flixonase treatment will do the trick. I tried so hard to fight olp with diet/suppliments but it didn't work so steroids it is unfortunately !! Xx
