Omeprazole not working

Can anyone help? I have suspected Acid Reflux and I have been taking Omeprazole for 3 weeks, I have only noticed a very slight improvement in my condition and I'm wondering if I should stop taking them or do they take much longer to take effect. I have to say I'm not too happy taking them with all the side effects!

When you lie down it gets worse, and especially if you go to bed within 3 hours of eating. I try to eat around 7 pm and go to bed well after 11 pm. This seems to help. Also drink a lot of water, as it dialutes the stomach acid. That was it. I have had heartburn, but stayed away from pills. Am eating boiled carrots, potaotes, chicken, chamomile tea and finally after 2 weeks of discomfort I can say that I am finally feeling better. Stick to the bland diet for as long as you can. A fringe benefit? I lost 11 pounds in two months! I still have "toilet" issues, some days very soft, some days normal, today I had a tiny amount of blood in my stools, but to be safe I have a meeting with a gastroenterologist in a few days. Finally Meds are destroyng and not helping us! Yesterday, I started adding a little fennel and parsley over my boiled food, because both of those are calming for stomach issues.

Firstly, I hope you feel better. I was advised by my cousin, (whom is a RN) to take Nexium. It's worth a try. Also, have you tried Ginger root tea, or chamomile tea? Try the real ginger, and the real chamomile flower tea. Hope you feel better.

Hi I have been taken omeprosal and it stopped working .My personal opinion it's another BS pill to sell to us . Before they finally suggest surgery to stop the reflux .My simple suggestions stop caffeine chocolate greasy fatty foods. Most of all do not over eat . Because it forces the acid to the top closer to your throaght

So please Indie, do not worry about them. And always keep an eye on them. I hope one of them may be working for you.
Best of luck!

Am 77. Have GERD from faulty sphynster valve so most of life off and on Omeprazole and others. Suddenly got attacks severe so Dr put me on 40 mg daily for only 3 months as he proclaimed any further use can hurt ones liver...so after 3 months which was wonderful.not one day in pain..I took the last pull and stopped. To my dismay, approx 48 hrs later the most severe heartburn ever came without notice! After two days if severe pain I did some digging into this. Found out stopping ANY meds without gradually decreasing definitely caused what is known as "ACID REBOUND" which can be more severe than how you began taking the need for. I had to hit the pharmacy quickly and get some Omeprazole but only 20mg for a week to wean off. I am still having periodically hits of bad burn only at night in bed which I didn't have all the while on 3 months of 40 mg. Going into see my Dr soon and see if ok to get back in 40 mg daily but concerned when all I read is don't take more than 30 days or liver problem may happen. Kind of feel like I'm in a catch 22 here. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone been told it's still ok to take 40 mg longer than 3 months without problems?
