On a positive note....

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd give you an update.. it's day 18 post op...I'm walking without crutches and more importantly without pain or a limp. Today I walked upstairs without having to use the banister to haul myself up..I can put on my own socks and zip up my boots!!

My scar has healed nicely. It's really neat and I'm confident it will fade to almost nothing.

I'd say its been a complete success!

Good to hear! May I ask what type of surgery you had and where you live?

I had a posterior approach total hip replacement via the NHS and I live in North Wales.

Another positive point: I'm not taking any more pain relief which for at least the past 12 months I've been replying on daily just to be able to function.

I'm planning on returning to work next week...initially on a part time basis to see how I manage but in all honesty, I feel perfectly well so I expect to be back to normal hours pretty soon.

Hip replacement isn't the end of the world... it's just the start of getting your life back! 😘

it's good to hear a positive result, I'm not quite there yet week 12 been discharged from the hospital they said it could take a year for muscles to heal and pain to go, I will always limp as one leg longer than the other , I can walk around 3 miles. almost tie my laces. pain bearable ,no pain killers used so I'm happy both hips done , I can only get better, so glad no more hospital yea!

    Hi JustDebWilldo,

I am in North Wales at what hospital did you have your op? I was told twelve weeks precautions, certainly no bending or twisting at all, not that I would have been able to at day eighteen and I have always exercised. Were you not given precautions at all?

Yes I was told about the precautions ...but I know my body and what it's capable of.. I've also had a number of conversations with my surgeon and I know what are necessary precautions and what are considered over cautious, particularly for someone much older and mobile than me.

      hi Deb

totally agree as we know age and level of fitness dictate . Some of the things I was told not to do were to me were every day things and I was able to do them from the first week . (not bragging before anyone says it) I think it is important to note people lifestyle and fitness before the surgery which will affect recovery very after . Keep up the good work
