One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride
Posted , 128 users are following.
I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week
I can report the following.
Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..
When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.
After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.
After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.
I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

Hi everyone, diagnosed with Blepharitis 3 weeks ago after a conference in Las vegas. Assuming the towels infected my lid. Had a course of antibiotics but no change.
Now starting with Wet Ones but scared that they may damage the tissue and leave my lid raised. Can those who treated it with Wet Wipes confirm the lid gets back to normal?

I have not used Wet Ones yet. The ones described as correct percentage od chemical on this site does have correct percentage, except has added lanolin and scent and so far, I am afraid I will make things worse, so am holding off on wet ones til doc visit. I yet may find myself giving them a try. They have clearly helped so many on this site. bh1

Thank you so much for you research! I am dismayed to find that I was off-handily, after a brief and cursory exam, treated for blepharitis with minocycline and steroid eye ointment. This Doctor also set up cataract surgery for 6 weeks from date of blepharitis diagnosis. Through your very diligent, educated research and a little of my own, his treatment plan may be not the safest. ( I had an extreme and on-going adverse reaction to augmentin , prescribed for a sinus infection , only a couple weeks ago. (The lit. on minocycline indicates that it can also have rather serious adverse reactions). My research, all of which I am sure you are already aware, suggests several types of blepharitis ( e.g . posterior vs anterior; obstructive vs. non-obstructive; with meibomian gland involvement vs without) , as well as multiple potential tests to ascertain the exact type of blepharitis ( none of these tests were administered to me). . I also found multiple "scholarly medical articles " that stated "using steroid eye ointment potentially increases the chance for other serious opportunistic eye infections, can increase intro-ocular eye pressure, as well as complicate cataract surgery" . I am going to d/c the ointment, hold off on the oral antibiotic and try the wet wipes , compresses, blinking ex, and massage. I will post again soon. Again, thank you for saving me from the "current
3- minute medical bureaucratic treatment approach." Again, I very much appreciate your making this information available! Sincerely, bh1

Dear bh1,
On this site, it was posted for Demodex that the Dr. used 50/50 tea tree oil and olive oil. It was used once a week. For every day he said it was 10/90.
Demodex is the eye mite problem but it was interesting the ratio of using the tea tree oil that I found interesting.
My blepharitis from what I could see in the research was a staph infection on the lashes. I used the wet ones but if not, I would have tried this.
You can also use antibiotics that go in the eyes and use them on the eye. It would be expensive but works as I read that on an online eye site. It is called "off label" use of the antibiotic.
Maybe you could get a doctor to do that.
Hope this helps.

@lynda79: Hi Lynda...
I've read your discussion from top to bottom on this post and followed all your replies. Before I move towards my question, I just want to say that you are an amazing human being.
I can see how sincere and generous you truly are, selflessly helping so many people and taking out time to reply to every single one of them.
I've had Blepharitis for around a year now. I was also misdiagnosed multiple times and at my 4th doctor visit, I was finally diagnosed with it. Just like others, I was also referred Blephamide opthalmic eye drops, Systane (preservative-free eye drops) and warm compresses.
But as you can guess, none of these have really helped me get rid of the symptoms. I definitely feel slightly better but not even close to being 'cure'.
I have a lot of screen usage and symptoms of blepharitis are making it impossible for me to focus on my work (I am a Copywriter). Writing is my passion and it's what I do for living.
Now coming to the real challenge. I read all about the wonders of WetOnes on this thread. But I am based in Pakistan. WetOnes are not available here. I can try to get them imported from USA but it will take time. Owing to my desperation, I am willing to give some local wipe a try before WetOnes arrive or I can somehow get my hands on them.
What I want to know from you is if I go 'local anti-bacterial wipes' shopping, what is it in the ingredients that I should be looking for? And what are the ingredients that I should specifically avoid (that might be dangerous for eyes).
Any response will be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Armash

Hi HonJon, Lynda79, everyone
hoping someone on this thread can tell me if they've been having the same symptoms i've been: for the past 8 months i've been struggling with recurring sty and chalazion on all four eye lids. it started with one sty then a month later another and before i knew it i had at least one either sty or chalazion on all eye lids. after a few weeks the swelling goes down but the bump is still there and not as red. the chalazions are still there but those are just bumps, no red, no swelling but you can see the bump. I have seen a doctor and they have drained all lids (extremely painful) but all came back within two weeks.
has anyone had this same struggle with recurring stys and chalazions? ive done everything the doxycyline, azasite, durezol, johnsons baby shampoo, hot compress, ocusoft wipes, witch hazel. im having outpatient surgery on Monday again to have them drained but im concerned with them returning after again. i dont have problems with itching, its nothing unbearable. i dont have problems with crusty eyes, i have some, but again, i think some is normal when you wake up in the morning (right)?
i bout the wet ones wipes off amazon, waiting for them to arrive. but hope anyone here can help relate and if they've seen any success with the wipes. also another weird scenario- both my brother ans sister have the same issue i described above. we don't live together. is it hereditary or could it be something were all doing or using?
thank you so much in advance!

Honjon,
When you first started using the Wet Ones were your eyes still initially inflamed and red? How long did it take for a noticeable improvement?
Thank you!

This is so so helpful! I have been struggling with blepharitis for over 3 years now, just constantly feels like my eyes are sore / red. Big cause of anxiety on my end, as I just want bright eyes and not to constantly feel like my eyes are being scratched. Will look to try this out!

Hi @lynda79 I have been suffering from blepharitis for the past year. I have been to the doctors they have the said the usual warm compress and to use cleansing eyelid solution which helps but the moment I stop my eye flare's up. I have it only on one eye. My symptoms are crust on the lashline as well as swelling. It has caused my eyelashes and eyebrows to fall out too which is very upsetting as I have always had thick eyebrows and long lashes, I could get away with wearing mascara only and not filling in my eyebrows but now I cannot. It's really affected my self esteem and I would like to say thank you for sharing your experience using wet ones wipes. I saw your post and instantly when to the shops to buy it (live in uk) I couldn't find the red ones so I got the blue pack (hand wipes) which has benzalkonium chloride. i dont know what percentage it is. I dont have any allergies but want to know is this one safe to use? would it be as effective as the red pack? or am I wasting my time and better off buying the red pack online? i initially thought let me try the blue pack if it doesnt work il get the red but please let me know if you recommend getting the red pack. Thank you.
