One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride
Posted , 128 users are following.
I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week
I can report the following.
Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..
When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.
After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.
After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.
I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

This is really important. I just found out that someone told me that the wipes sold in the UK have .3% Benzalkonium Chloride in them.
The Wet Ones I used (on sale on internet) have .03% Bnzethonium Chloride in them. That is a hugh!!!! difference. It explains why Honjon went down so fast when using the ones in the UK. They are too strong to use around the eye.
So please get the ones with .03% in them.
Thinking of everyone,

just looked at the post and checked my wet ones i get the sensitive ones i have looked on the back and all mine says is benzalkonium chloride (0.0975g in 100g of dosed liquid ) so is this the same one or safer one? (pale blue packet be gentle) they are hypoallergenic does this make a differrence or not? if they are the same what site do you get them off looking forward to hearing from you jeanette

Boy! Am I having a bad day. I looked at the back of the package of Wet Ones and they say 0.3%. So it is O K to use that amount as that is what I used and many others used. It looked like the other way. Couldn't see the dot. Well, at least others are going to be fine. I panicked.
The Dr.will be getting back to me and now I have to email him with the correct amount too. Will let you know what that amount is when I find out myself.
Sorry about the panic. Worried I was going to give the wrong kind of product to use. Guess Honjon's is still a good to use until I find different.
Let you know what I learn. Sorry for my mistake.
Talk later,
Lynda

I am having a bad 24 hours here. The wipes in the US (I read it wrong) do have Benzethonium Chloride at 0.3%. I did not see the dot.
Bottom line is if I got this again I would use it and kill it again.
It is a staphylococcus infection and this does kill it.
I am sorry about the amount. I am up at 3:30 here in a panic. But I would do it again. My friend used a facial scrub and I do not know how much Benzthonium Chloride was in that as they reformulated it.
If a person is allergic then they should not use these. I am trying to get a Dr. to work on the antibiotic for this. He is interested.
There is no cure my Dr. told me. I guess that is why I was so desperate.
Sorry about the amount of ingredient. I need better glasses.
It will kill it and it does not go in the eyes. Just make sure your daughter uses a small section of wipe (I tore them into 8 sections) to just go around the fingertip to do the eyelash area.
Sorry for all this crazy panic stuff.
It does work for most but some are allergic and can get contact dermatitis.
Hope I can sleep now.

I was talking about the ones in the UK as someone on another site sent me into a panic. I then realized that the US ones are 0.3% Benzethonium Chloride. I couldn't see the dot.
Bottom line is I would use them again to kill it if I got it again.
I couldn't stand the itching I had constantly.
Sorry for all the fuss. Just don't put them in the eye.
I think I am stressed out here with worry for others and what I have said.
Thank you,
Lynda79

You made me feel so much better. I looked up the Tox report again and it said at the conclusion:
"It is concluded that both compounds are safe at concentrations of 0.5 percent in cosmetics applied to the skin. A maximum concentration of 0.02 percent is safe for cosmetics used in the eye area."
It was talking about Benzethonium Chloride and Methylbenzethonium.
I didn't look anything up to start with. I just knew what she (a friend) used to kill it and was desperate. The fact that it worked I would do it again.
Just want to thank you as felt I was giving wrong info but it is still safe for the majority. I felt bad that I read it wrong. It is now 0.3% Benzethonium Chloride in the hand wipes. I still haven't heard from the Dr. about the amount in the UK wipes. Honjon proved that they work.
I wonder if the chemist could give the answer to that more so than the Dr.?
Thanks for being so encouraging.
Such a friend you are.

Yes, I took some time off and went to a Regional Convention and then to Sea World (Sea animal park).
I don't know about the problem with the crusty eyes but if she is not allergic what can it hurt to at least try them and see if it helps.
Be sure and ask about the shampoo and detergent allergy etc.
Of course, if I had not used the wipes I would be sitting around with honey on my eyelashes or anything else someone said would help.
Going to post the info on the antibiotic soon as I don't think the doctors in the US are interested in the curing of it.
There is an antibiotic that acts like the wipes in the way that they work to kill the Staphylococcus.
After that side bar, back to the question, the wipes can be drying so just once to try it. Be sure and tell her about the little pieces you use so as to not put all over your skin.
I do worry. Hope this helps your friend.

Lynda

Hope all goes well. I posted to kitkat on the antibiotic I think will work as her case was the wost I have heard so far. Going to see if she can see the logic of the info I gave her. If so, then I can post to others.
I have given to 2 doctors so far. Going for the dentist next month. I gave him one half of the info so far. He is young so might be more motivated and have an eye doctor friend.
Enough of my yammering on.
Hope this is success for your friend too.

Glad to hear that you are doing well.
You have to keep at this and be determined and it will go away.
