One Year PKR tomorrow/ swelling !!

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hello tomorrow I happily celebrate my one year PKR. But the last week or two I've been feeling like I'm swelling and yup I am , as I write this I'm iceing and elevating sad

Looking back over last month here is what is different . I've been walking more stop and start movements , up and down a lot from a chair ,and started wearing heels again which I'm so happy to be able to do again. Could that really be it ? I am beside myself .

Any thoughts ?

Also I had to change my log in . I used to be Debbie 72992 ( something like that )

Thank you for your thoughts !

Think of yourself as a science experiment.  Rule #1 in any such endeavor is to...

CHANGE ONLY ONE VARIABLE AT A TIME

Under controlled conditions, you can then see if what you did caused a specific reaction.  Same thing here.  The easiest variable to remove from "your" experiment is the heels.  Put them away for a week.  Has the swelling disappeared? If yes, you found the cause; if not, change your walking habits (get a pedometer to track your steps).  Again, problem solved?

You do this until you get back to a steady state and then introduce one change at a time and see what happens.  It could even be a combination of things but you have to start backing out the changes to see which one is causing your problem.

And yes, I just blinded you with science!!!

Hello Chico AKA helpful friend with good advice !

Just maddening all of it . But I will do just that .

Thank you so much . I'm in such a bad state right now over this . I may even have to take pain pill to get through tomorrow.

Talk about two steps forward and 100 steps backwards.

      HI Chico,

Any info would be good.Just wondering if you have experience of the following.

Had a rtkr in Dec 15, Manipulated March 16, now 17 months forward. Not in any pain however I still have swelling about 1/4 of what it was previously and still feels tight. bend is great approx 120/130.

I swim and have an exercise pedal .

Doc said maybe 2 yrs for full recovery.

      Thanks Janey

Hello All Again it's me again with this swelling . Grrr

I was doing so good what happened. Maybe I am going full speed and should not be . Here is the weekend- Barre class Saturday at y and walked additional couple miles. Knee did swell at days end .Sunday helped decorate for small wedding reception party ( did wear heels 😔wink, today stood for one solid hour during Memorial Day service . Worked rest of day bagging up stuff for donations. Lots of stairs and carrying bags and up and down on floor with grand kids . I mean it's normal stuff BUT is it too much at one year ? Or is my partial starting to go bad already ?

Please please I'm getting so distraught over this . I know I keep repeating myself here but it has been going down then back up . No pain just swelling very bad .

Help please . Is this normal what have others experienced. Do I need go back to Doctor for examine . I don't want to have fluid drained only to have it come right back .

Hi - what a journey we are on !!  One thing I was gold was never again to wear heels. Being tall it is not an issue but apparently it puts too much strain on the area and is rated like no running or kneeling. Maybe if you only wear them for a short time everyday and slowly get your body readjusted to them you may be able to ?

    All the best.

Aww I am sure if you go back to basics and ice, rest etc for a week it will come right again. We can be our own worst enemies cant we !!  I am 8 months post op and sometimes feel normal again but then I overdo it and hit the wall sad. I went on a 4 day car journey recently and it took me a week to recover from the sitting.

      Hi NZJENNI

Oh my gosh yes I feel for you for sure . I guess we will always be reminded of our limitations in one way or another and it will help us to keep our new knees longer .

I am off to Europe in August and it is an. 17 hour then a 6 hour flight to get to my destination - then after a month away a repeat to get home !! Eeeep . I want to make the most of this new chance but still want to do things and hate the idea of going through all this again - balance and patience are not my strong suits !!!
