Ongoing glans and meatus irritation (since August 2019)

I am uncircumcised and the head of my penis (glans and meatus) have been irritated for several months. It burns when I pee, and the tip of my urethra tends to keep burning and even itching for several minutes afterward. The glans stay dry and kinda sticky to the touch, and itch frequently. Sex or masturbation (or even just an erection) makes the glans appear really red and wrinkly, even a bit shiny, but no skin is flaking or anything. Itching (and sometimes burning) is intense even minutes after ejaculating. I have a slight off white/yellowish discharge from the meatus several times a day, literally about one droplet, it resembles the consistency of pre-cum.

I have seen two urologists and a dermatologist. urine and blood have been tested , STD tests, had a cystoscopy (camera through the urinary tract/bladder) come back normal. Have had Doxycycline and another oral antibiotic, anti fungal and anti yeast topical creams, nothing seems to help. Have tried Moisturizing with coconut oil thinking it would help the dryness. Basically I’m out of options as far as doctors that will see me with my insurance.

Morgan, what you describe suggests there is a genital health issue that still needs to be resolved. Are you able to go back and see one of the Urologists. If so, I would suggest going to see the one you feel you can work with to resolve what you have going on.

The appearance of your penis shows you also have a skin issue on the head of your penis - for the majority of males a great deal of this kind of problem is caused by using soap, shower gel and contact, usually when showering, with other body cleaning agents such as shampoo. Use water only to clean the penis, use running shower water or water from the tap to clean the penis rubbing with the inside of the hand and fingertips. To dry, you must remove all traces of moisture using a clean dry towel that only you use.

In addition, if you have regular unprotected sex you may be getting contact with fungal / yeast or bacterial infections or a combination of these, particularly if you regularly receive oral.

I would get the Urologist issues sorted first, if you can abstain from sex and masturbation for as long as you can that may be of great benefit also.

You can update if you see a Urologist again and I may be able to guide you further on the skin issues at that time .......

Hey thanks for the reply. I ONLY use running water, like you said. And the urologists I’ve seen basically told me they're out of ideas. They tried Antibiotics and several other things but nothing made a difference. Sadly I have wellcare (state insurance) so my options on doctors are limited. I really don’t know what else to try. The last few days its been burning and itching even worse (especially after urination), and I've done nothing different that i can think of.

Are you currently having regular penetrative sex?

Medical Professionals such as Urologists are normally the best way of getting issues like this sorted. The burning sensation you have is often linked to an infection, while you may have had treatment for that, the problem is if you are sexually active at the same time you may get in a cycle where you are constantly exposed to infection. You may have a urine infection hanging on, although you may have had oral antibiotics sometimes they are not sufficiently effective in some cases and a different antibiotic needs to be tried. With any medication such as this you MUST use it as directed as sometimes if you miss taking it for a day or 2 that can impede the effectiveness.

Have you tried anything such as a steroid cream or ointment ...... ?

Not currently having sex , would be miserable lol. saw the neurologist again today and he’s basically treating me as if I have an STD but I’ve come back negative multiple times for those . I tried a steroid cream for a week or two back in August or September, no difference

For irritated or damaged penile skin, particularly on the head / glans, one week or even 2 is totally insufficient for the healing process to be set in place.

What people get mixed up with is the difference in steroid creams and ointments: creams treat conditions that are present on the surface of the skin. Ointment treats irritated or damaged skin. - that is, repairs or sets in place healing from within the skin itself, rather than at a surface level that a cream is used for.

A Medical Professional such as a General / Family / Regular Doctor, or even Urologist may not always recognise the difference between the two.

I would say the generalisation for anyone with sufficiently irritated or damaged skin on the glans / head of the penis penis a basic level of healing would take anywhere between 3 and 7 months to set in place - that is with the proviso that within that time the head / glans has not been in contact with anything that would damage it further or expose it to further infections, such as fungal / yeast, and / or bacterial. Certainly, quite literally, nothing other that the correct steroid application should be in contact with the skin on the head / glans.

In addition, certainly sex and masturbation is best completely avoided ........

so you’re recommending that i try a steroid ointment?

    • Posted

Yes, if you have not seen a Dermatologist already i would suggest you go see one: that way the best topical application(s) can be prescribed to you and the regime of using it is also of critical importance.

What you may have is an infection that is still present, and, your skin is also damaged - you therefore need a topical steroid, or perhaps even two separate ones that can deal with your actual circumstances.

The best Medical professional to deal with this is a Dermatologist specialising in Genital Skin Disorders ......

i have the same problem and i used this treat but didnt solution my symtoms... and some doctors said that the steroid ointment is very dangerous because this treat put the skin more thin ... and cause the contrary, get worse the symptoms.... but not all bodies acting same...

Not all steroid applications are the same - first the one used mush match the severity of the issue, in terms of strength, it then needs to be used correctly for the problem to be treated, managed or cured.

I have used one of the most powerful steroids there is for an incurable penile skin condition for almost 9 years with no additional problems = used correctly, and having the correct steroid in the first place can be very effective and is unlikely to cause additional problems in most cases.

It depends who you mean by 'doctors' it should always be a skin specialist such as a Dermatologist that correctly diagnoses the problem, then prescribes the correct form of treatment, and the essential element is clear instructions on a treatment regime so that the most effective impact is achieved by whatever the treatment is - this is particularly the case in terms of topical steroids.

One simple example that some doctors wrongly prescribe is to treat damaged skin the steroid should be in ointment form, cream versions of steroids only treat conditions that are present on the skin, rather than within it - there is a big difference be therefore on the outcome that is achieved. That is, use a cream when an ointment is required and most often you will get very little if any change to damaged skin.

good explication... but if the doctor did a wrong treat with steroid, fix with another treat with steroid sound rare... its possible? and you can explain what steroid ointment you used and how?

    • Posted

I do not understand what you mean by this?

" fix with another treat with steroid sound rare "

You need to go see a skin specialist, treatments, even steroids are specific to the skin condition you have.

When you have the correct form of treatment - so if it was a steroid that was the CORRECT form of treatment it: would need to be applied frequently enough, to all of the damaged skin areas, it needs to be absorbed by the skin which takes between 2 and 3 minutes of rubbing it in.

What condition do you have ...... ?

i have the same problem, the same symptoms....

i use antibiotics (azithromycin and secnidazole), antifungal tablets (fluconazole) and cream, steroid in cream and tablets, creams hydration, and nothing work....

If you find any solutions, can you post them?
