op date

Posted , 6 users are following.

I went on the NHS list for a hiatus/hernia repair and Nissen's Fundoplication in November and was told the waiting list was 3-6 months. When I phoned last week after 3 months I was told 6-8 months. I decided, reluctantly to go private and I am having my op on the 9th March. Scared but just want to get it over with and start the recovery process.

Thanks Dr Spock. Although I lost a lot of weight I still need to lose more. Trouble is I am now eating things I haven't eaten for more than 3 years and the only symptoms I have is the wind! Will have to watch that I don't put too much on but I am still 4 stone+ less than when the illness started to be unacceptable. I can't believe how different I feel now that the stomach has been released from my chest, lungs and heart. It did take me 6 weeks to feel that I had turned that recovery corner but have been baking with my grandchildren today etc.

If I could nominate my surgeon for a knighthood I would.

So sorry your health problems still exist and hope you get some relief soon.

Oh sorry I thought you were a near skeleton after being in such a state for so long but actually you needed to lose more  That kind of explains why you got pushed down the waiting list aswell but anyway that's old news now smile

My partner is doing the Slimming World thing and she's lost well over 3 stones, yeah some of the things she can eat are amazing and she loses a regular 1-2 lbs a week even eating all kinds of things (in moderation) you'd classically think are bad smile

The other week I made Slimming Worlds Chickpea and Chilli cakes with Minty Yogurt dip, they were well nice :D

I'm due to go in for surgery on Wednesday and a bit terrified as I always feel like I am choking when I eat food and the only way I can cope is by getting sick....not being able to do this after surgery has me freaked out bit time. Just hoping that the positives of having this done will take away the feeling of having food lodged in my throat and I can have a normal life. I've had this condition since I was 16 and I'm 39 now. Hopefully I will get better after this.

Hello everyone, I'm a "newby" here & its heart-warming (not heart-burning!) to read about successes with the op. I too have the hernia/acid reflux condition which was fairly-well controlled by the drugs. However became worse over the years until now its a nightmare going to bed & I sympathise with others who have overnight problems. I had the ph test & they said it wasn't bad enough. How bad do you have to be before you can have the op! Unfortunately when symptoms get bad it can interfere with your life - now semi-retired with the time-out for more leisure, I'm too crook to enjoy it! I've tried the usual - dont eat just about everything, raised bed-head etc. - short only of standing up 24/7! Anyway I've to see the specialist again & hoping & praying to someone up there that I'll be able to get the op. Its very reassuring to hear you people saying how successful the op is, although I understand you have to wait. If anyone has good tips on how to cope with it in the meantime I would be very grateful to hear from you.

    Best wishes, Debbie B
