Op on Wednesday!!

Posted , 12 users are following.

I've just been given the go ahead for my thr on Wednesday as planned. My hb was low so technically it should have been cancelled but I'm 45 and otherwise healthy. Just had a visit from occupational health to arrange delivery of a chair, trolley, loo lift etc... Relieved it's going ahead as will have family around over Christmas but feeling scared now.

Just wish it was all over and could get on with recovery. I've put this off for so many years but have had to give in. Having bone grafting so won't know till after the op how long I'll be non weight bearing for. Just want to walk without a limp!! 😄

    Vicki,

So glad you are so close to your THR, you'll be so relieved once it is done.

Best for a speedy limp-free recovery

      Hi Lucite,

Im 4wks post op to, my blood thinner tablets ran out yesterday (yippee) but I have another two weeks of those flipping stockings smile , don't know about sleeping on side . hope you ok

5 weeks post-op, and had my last Rivaroxaban today - it depends on what type of blood thinner tablet you get.

TED's usually get ripped off and burnt (someone's wonderful suggestion) at 6 weeks.

Trouble is, I am also 5 weeks pre-op ... I am having revision to correct the placement of the ceramic insert

I think that sleeping on side can be resumed at 6 weeks - but depends on what your physio recommends.

I am in US, I took blood thinners for 15 days and didn't have to wear the stockings after I was walking around. Was told only needed if you are not moving or if having problems with leg swell. I was told I could refuse them at any time so since I wasn't swelling much and was walking I refused them. The ones I had went up to thigh, hated them.....you should be able to sleep on good side now with pillow between legs but will be a while before you will want to sleep on operated side. Good luck.

I am also nearly 4weeks post op. Did not have the stocking except during the hospital stay. Blood thinners for 26 days. Been sleeping on other side that was replaced in March since week 2.

Waiting is the worst part I think, wish I had had mine done a few years ago. Plenty of rest the first couple of weeks, you will be surprised how tires you are. Tony

All the best Vicki. It can be a tense wait because you don't really know what Wil happen, but it really is the start of a new life.

    Hi vicki,

I had a bone graft because I had a weak spot (a  hole ! ) where they removed a broken screw from a broken femur operation. They said two weeks non weight bearing on the operated side but I could stand on my good leg.It was not too bad but meant I was slower to pass the milestones. You are much younger than me so might bounce back quicker with  luck. All the best for Wednesday, Have you been given iron supplement?

      HI vicki,

Hope all goes according to plan tomorrow.

Bone graft will slow things down but end result will be the same.

I am 12 weeks post op now after THR and bone graft and I just went on a day out by train with lots of changes and 5 different trains. Hip was fine but I am shattered tonight. You will be just the same I feel sure.

Let us know when you have recovered a bit.
