Hello fellow hippies ...Thankyou for all your good wishes ..I am now home which is good but feel I've been run over by a BIG truck ..😳 Fairly pain free except at night which if fair enough ..it all seems to have gone well and my surgeon is pleased with the result ..using one stick when I can but two if I am a bit tired ..
For those ready to go in for the op ,I had the spinal block and chose to have a sleep ..after getting set up in the ante room I just closed my eyes when we went into the theatre ...that worked very well for me ..it is scary but not a impossible although I did ask the surgeon for th sixth time ..was he really sure I needed it done ..and do you know ,he turned out to be right ...feel so much better now and looking forward to getting back to walking without the grinding pain ...good luck to all...gxx

Welcome home and to this side of the fence ...
I am happy to read that it all went well - Oh yeah, the hit by a big truck feeling is familiar - in a way you were remodelled -
did you have posterior or anterior approach ? I am asking because you are already walking with one stick -
be gentle with gail the next coming days !!!
big warm hug

Anterior,I think ,wound at the side of my hip that's ok ..it's the fact that my knee is so swollen that's annoying me ..Its HUGE 😬 And think that is really impairing my walking ..I take it that that is normal ..but managed to get dressed today on my own apart from one sock ..well pleased ..

your leg was twisted majorly during surgery, darling ...
and you started to walk already -- your body is trying t keep you balanced and knees are major players here ...
cool on getting the sock on ... how did you do it? did you use one of those sock-aids

If you lay in bed with your leg straight out atop three pillows you can get some of the awful knee swelling down...I have the side scars as well. You can also place one of those frozen gel packs from the pharnacy on either side of the knee while it is elevated.
You do not need a prescription...I kept four of the small rectangular ones in my freezer. Just do not place them directly on your skin when they first come out of the freezer...use a lightweight towel on your skin first. After a while I would flip them to the other side.
I also found them helpful for my hip...again this size allowed me to place it a bit beneath my hip.
Oh, and after the elevation and icing, pump you knee to get the fluids moving.

I had anterior and my knee was so swollen and bruised everyone thought I had a knee replacement. It did hinder me in the beginning and the swelling took weeks to go down. I could not bend my knee hardly at all..I even had to return back to the hospital for a MRI of the knee...it showed extreme swelling inside, surgeon must have really twisted my leg...Ellvate leg above your heart it helps, don't stand too much. Take Care!

During the surgery, your leg is manipulated...it is tough on the knee because the bone that runs inbetween the knee and the pelvis is the femur. The pelvic end of the femur is the head which articulates to the socket of the pelvis.

Is the elevation helping?
Add a frozen gel pack and the pain will come down as the swelling comes down.
