Open Myomectomy

I am just over 4 weeks post open myomectomy and was wondering how others have recovered. The scar is still swollen and sore which I expected however at times I get what I can only describe as sharp "stabbing" pains. These seem to be more from inside my body rather than from the scar. Is this normal? I'm not due to see my GP for another week so just wanted to check with others who may have gone through the procedure.

I just had mine Tuesday. Soneone defiantly needs to stay with you. I think the worst thing i could have did was come homešŸ¤¦šŸ¾. Don't think cause your home you can do stuff and move around morešŸ˜’. Do what you did at the hospital if you relaxed mainly than relax at home.bI was feelong great when i left now i feel horrible. You need to take it easy do what you did in the hospital RELAX. IT well be really hard getting of from the bed espacially at home. Just take TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! Even if you felt great leaving the hopital. Try to figure out which is the best way to get in bed and to get up. I have not found a good way. felks terrible getting up my stomach hurts theres pulling when there never was. Need a break I'll give you more info lateršŸ–‘

Did you go back home and your by yourself? You def need someone with you. Your going to feel that tightness for a while as you were cut. Try to walk, it’s difficult but try, it helps so much. Use your arms and legs to kind of roll out of bed, don’t use your stomach.

I went home 3 days later with my mom and sister. Yes I've been using my arm. It's so hard to find a comfortable way to get up and lay down. Everytime i did i would get this horrible pain. Did you have trouble urinating without pushing? And swollen legs and thigs. I don't wanna share too much info but was your vagina swollen??? My felt swollen only rhe left one that the other one got swollen to. I'm like this is not my vaginašŸ˜§šŸ‘†šŸ¤¦šŸ¾. I didn't know you vagina would swell up. I wish the doctors would let you know thatšŸ˜’.

    Hi everyone!

So I am 5 weeks post op. I see most have said they have swelling under their incision but I have swelling above mine. Is this not normal?

Prior to surgery, I went in with a great attitude and the entire prep staff laughed and joked with me. My doctor gave me a huge hug and told me my attitude reminds her of why she is a doctor. My surgery was supposed to be one hour and a half to two hour but she finished in 45 mins.

After surgery, I was wide awake (anesthesia didn’t make me sleepy) and I stayed up talking until the wee hours in the morning. In recovery, my morphine drip malfunctioned so I felt total pain. My bladder was affected by the anesthesia and refused to allow me to urinate so I stayed 3 days in the hospital. I was walking on the first day. Each time I used the restroom it stung. I didn’t have a vowel movement for almost two weeks. The pain medication made me vomit so I had to get prescribed Zofran. I then decided to stop taking the pain meds after day 4. I had a lot of pain in the night and sleep was not easy.

By week two, I was driving. I was easily exhausted by little things and still am. I had the bright idea to have friends over who wanted to visit post op and we stayed up until 2 am. I had a fever for two days because of that! The doctor said I stressed my body out. Total I have had a fever 3-4 times.

Last week (week 4), I wanted to go to the gym and just walk the treadmill since I was cleared for coreless exercise. It was a success. My recovery hasn’t been quite like everyone else but there are a few similarities.

I still haven’t have a period though. I have been bloating for 2 weeks. Today I am spotting so I hope this is a sign.

If you have piercings like I do, go online prior to surgery to get piercing retainers so you don’t have to remove or risk closure of a piercing.

I have no visible scar but my doctor said in case one decides to appear, I need to use Mederma. My stomach has gotten flatter with the removal of 4 fibroids (lime sized) and 2 cysts (popped as my doctor said).

If anyone is considering, do it! I pushed mine back two years almost but now at 30, my husband and I want to try for children! God’s greatest blessings to you all!!

I am now 10 months out and so much better. But i still have pain in my larger scar (there were 4 little ones and one about 2 inches wide)

I think it hurts because it is right at my belly button line and the muscle behind thay area is one frequently used. I also feel pain on rainy days.

As for over doing it, i had to stay out of work for 2 months and even after returning i too was tired quickly and needed to sit more but im really at about 97% at this point so it does get better. Good luck. Oh, p.s. omg no pain Meds? i would have died. I took one week of real meds and after that switched to otc tylenol so as not to get used to them. I also was not hungry (very unlike me) for about 7 days due to anesthesia and lost weight. But that's back too! Lol Also nobody asks about sex even though we think about so ill say it, I tried after 1 month and realized i need more time so it was 2 months.

Thank you so much for that!

Wow 10 months and still healing?! Why don’t they tell us this prior to surgery? Now that you mentioned it, i I rained yesterday and I definitely was feeling pain on my incision.

    Hi there,

I just had 2 fibroids removed on Tuesday last week. I'm home now and in pain still from just moving in and out of the bed or couch.

I also just started feeling sharp pain around my stitches not frequent but only when I am struggling to get in and out of bed.

Did anyone go through sharp pains in the first week after their open myomectomy?

    Regards,

    Zan

I needed the full 8 weeks to recover. Yesterday was 2 months and I still need to take it easy. With time you will get there.

Its true that you will experience pain after surgery when it involves removal of something inside you. Time heals.
