open wound after hemorrhoidectomy

Hello All,
I had a hemorrhoidectomy 5 weeks ago. This has been the most painful, challenging thing I have ever gone through. It has completely changed me as a person. I am completely depressed and anxious all the time. I am healing, but during my first BM I blew open one of my incisions. I had a giant, gaping open wound. it has gotten much smaller, but just when it starts to feel better, I have to poop again and it opens back up. Has anyone else experienced this? My Dr. will not give me a time frame for how long I will feel like this. I am desperate for my normal life back, or just to hear something positive. any words would be appreciated.

I can't tell you much, I'm heading to my 3rd BANDING tomorrow, so I'm in a different bad dream compared to your nightmare. The one thing I will tell you is you can not drink enough water to have your poops just fall out and stay soft. If you're not taking Miralax and stool softeners get right on that. (Seems like your Dr should have told you this). Hang in there... Some things take a long time to heal. Banding is about 5 weeks. Surgery probably takes 6-8. Broken bone can take from 6 - 12 weeks. Many others on this list have the same situation as you. Lots of hemorrhoidectomies.

Thank you for mentioning banding takes about 5 weeks to recover from. I'm 3 weeks out and still experiencing pain. The idea that banding is "painless" is
Crazy.
I'm so ready to move on from this.
I hope you guys are all feeling better and better every single day!

Oh dear, that doesn't sound right at all! Perhaps you should see another doctor, there's nothing wrong with that.

How are you today? I'm curious because I'm 7 days post op and I've managed to bust all of my stitches but one, on day 2 after my first bm. What a nightmare! My doctors nurse doesn't seem so concerned because apparently that's common however if I so much as slightly brush against the incision it bleeds like crazy. Ive pretty much kept a gauze pad up my ass the entire time to help with absorption but I'm worried my incision is going to take along time to heal and if it would be worth being re-stitched. Do you have any advice after your experience it seems I find more comfort in talking to people who've been to the depths of this hell

Tmrw will mark 12 weeks for me and I am still not healed. The wound is about 90% closed, but there is a still a small spot that just opens back up with every BM. It's tolerable, but still painful and annoying. At this point I can either wait a few more weeks and hope it closes or I can have another procedure for him to rough up the skin and stitch it closed again. I am opting to wait a bit for now. You are only 7 days in so you have a ways to go. I feel for you as this has been the absolute worst thing I have ever endured, but it does get better. My advice is to eat soft foods. I ate mostly applesauce and eggs and steamed veggies. Ask your Dr. To prescribe 5%lidocaine ointment. Apply it before a BM. It helps a bit. Also this cream called analpram really helped me. It's a cortisone cream so it helps with inflammation but has another ingredient as well but once I started using that I healed much quicker. Also the best thing is to take a lot of baths. The sitz bath is useless. Fill your tub as hot as you can and add Epsom salt. I promise it doesn't sting. Do this every time you poop and whenever else you can. This brings relief and also helps heal. I would binge watch shows on my tablet while in the tub. I went through pounds and pounds of Epsom salts! I was out of work 2 weeks. But didn't feel human again until about 4 weeks. Please let me know if you have more questions, I know how hard it is but it will get better. Stay strong!

Thanks so much for all your advice I feel like I get more info on here then from my doctors. This website has been a blessing. I'll let you know when I get to 4 weeks. I've accepted the open wound for now because nobody seems concerned about it and I'd hate to have them break again if I get restitched. So I'll keep praying for now and baby steps.

Yeah my Dr. Wasn't much help and was largely on vacation after my surgery, so it was his covering Dr. In another practice who really helped me. The open wound is normal and everyone heals differently. Maybe you will be luckier than me. Another helpful thing I forgot to mention is mineral oil. I take a tablespoon every night before bed. It helps your BM to kind of just slide out easier so it doesn't hurt as much . Don't take more than though or it can have a laxative effect. It really doesn't taste like anything. Hope you are feeling better soon! Write anytime

Two weeks after surgery i had external hemriods come back.. Regretting this so much now. I tried going back to work last week but by Thursday i was in so much pain.. My job is very physical. Possible why i cant go back until im completely healed..
I take a stool softner daily have been for almost 2yrs as no matter how clean i eat its a way of life for me since I was 5... Chrones n colon cancer in family. With the stool softner i am no longer constipated. But I still have internal roids bleeders. .
And as of last week the blood once again is happening with every bm..
I called colorectal surgeon to get an appointment. I believe it possible that i may have fissures. .I cant say as Ive never experience these before but i do know they can be just as painful.
Plz keep me posted

Seeing yours post and im in your position just 11 months later. Its my 7th day post op and i dont know what to say. It's a total nightmare. Pain is the word of these days... It's there along with blood after every BM and usually it taks two hrs to eventually decrease. Im also keeping a gauze all the time in my rectal all the time. Let's talk stitches! They are all over the place by no particular order, some feel a little irritating some not. I really think the surgeon should have been a butcher previously. Total nightmare, the opposite of what i thought in the beginning. My a**hole is now further on my balls side than the opposite, this makes me feel the BM literally 2 seconds before its all out, and there is no way holding it at all.
I don't see any way how this is going to get better but i always hope. Im not using any of those epsom salt treatments since there is a open wound and im not clear if I should or should not.
I would like to know how are you doing... How was your recovery and anything you can guide me through.
Hope you are well to this day.
Cheers

DD23 - thank you SO much for that information!! I'm pretty much in the same boat (read: bath) doing the same thing every single day. This is going into my 5th week (after hemorrhoidectomy & anal fissure - plus I have Crohn's Disease for 20 years) and I swear it is the worst pain and worst thing I have ever experienced. You can't even sleep with this stuff/pain etc! 😬
Nothing seems to be healing. I asked the colorectal surgeon yesterday for a script for some more painkillers and she had the GALL to tell her receptionist to tell me by email (because they NEVER answer their phone) that she's thinking/going to refer me to a pain specialist. My apologies, but if I had've been able to speak to her on the phone, I would've told her that she's an absolute ***** and to go jump in the freakin lake!!! She's an ignoramus if she doesn't know by now as a surgeon that these ops/medical conditions are some of - if not the MOST painful there is, and that they can take anywhere from 4 weeks upwards to heal (a friend of mine told me that her friend's fissure took a YEAR to heal!!!) OMG 😫😩😡😭
Anyway, my deepest sympathies & compassion to anybody out there that's going through/suffering through all of this. I am sending you SPEEDY recovery & healing vibes/prayers/etc. It literally feels like hell. When is it all going to be over....???? 😦 xo

Dear God!!! I just had 2 hemorrhoidectomies done at the same time, (Wednesday 6/9/21), and was told I'd be a little uncomfortable for a couple of days and then would be fine to go back to work on Monday. I was not prescribed ANY pain medication but was given a small sample of lidocaine ointment. I'm in so much pain and feel sick. I burst a stitch after my first BM this morning. Somehow I got impacted and almost blacked out from the pain of trying to go. I ended up having to give myself an enema. I'm going to get some mineral oil and mirolax today. This is terrible!! why didn't she give me pain medication??? And I don't think I'll be ready to go back to work on Monday after hearing y'all stories and experiencing how much pain I'm in. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

@KMB89 Hi, I had my surgery the day after yours. I had 2 big ones taken out and 2 internal ones banded.
My doctor told me I should be able to resume to my normal activities after 7-10 days. Today is 5th day and pooping is still a pain. I don't know why your doctor didn't give you any pain killers, call his office and ask. I was given oxycodone but it did not work for me. I was not able to sleep at all the first night so I called the next morning and asked for something else. I was given ketocorelac and that worked for me. I alternated it with oxy but found that oxy really did not affect me so I stopped taking it because it causes constipation. I'm taking tylenol instead. I also drink miralax and colace. I called again today to ask if I can use lidocaine before and after BMs but I was advised against it. I also find that sitz baths stretches my wound so I jump in the shower instead after a BM and run hot water on my butt. I hope this helps a little bit. call your doctor as he is responsible for your care.

Hi Jules? I’m on my seventh day as well. I had my Hemorrhoidectomy , Three internal hemorrhoids, removed on March 7. It hadn’t been 72 hours and I felt a huge desire to have a BM. I made the mistake of calling ER and they told me to take milk of magnesia. I’ve then had diarrhea seven times and once the next day. I feel like it sent me back.
yesterday, I finally had a soft BM and this morning when I got up I had another. I have pain that lasts for about four hours after each BM. How about you? Also, they put me on tramadol which is a pain med, and I went off of that on Friday because I was afraid it might constipate me. I’ve been alternating every four hours between ibuprofen and Tylenol. I also take a muscle relaxer every eight hours.
my question to you is this: I have to force myself to eat. I got 14 g of fiber in yesterday and today I’m going to try to get 17 to 19. Why am I nauseated. Also, the inside of my body heats up every now and then. I am an anxious person and I think it could be from anxiety. I don’t have a fever. any insight?
I hope some of this information helps you and if you have any questions for me please send them.
