open wound after hemorrhoidectomy

Hello All,
I had a hemorrhoidectomy 5 weeks ago. This has been the most painful, challenging thing I have ever gone through. It has completely changed me as a person. I am completely depressed and anxious all the time. I am healing, but during my first BM I blew open one of my incisions. I had a giant, gaping open wound. it has gotten much smaller, but just when it starts to feel better, I have to poop again and it opens back up. Has anyone else experienced this? My Dr. will not give me a time frame for how long I will feel like this. I am desperate for my normal life back, or just to hear something positive. any words would be appreciated.

This time I will start laxatives before, maybe a week in advance.Going to the loo is the hellish part. Sorry to be so graphic but if you can squat amd shower then dry with low heat dryer. Followed by a cool pack! I bought some specialty designed ones... it helped! No underwear!
I did take hydrocodene and it worked.... but .... it constipated me which was like an irony! I felt like I would never recover but I did... just have to have an external one removed but after the internal open surgery I think I will handle it! Good luck.

I don't know if you suffer from constipation on a regular basis but I take Linizess works great.

Hi dd23, how did everything end up? I am on day 10 day post-op. On day 6, everything tore open. I was in the worst pain of my life. The pain and bleeding has improved, but I have a very large open wound make there that makes me very nervous. When I called, the doctor says he isn't concerned. But I am! I see him in 4 days. My mental health has taken a huge hit.... I hear you there.

Hi, What did your doctor do about the opened wound?

Nothing, actually. He said it was normal and would close on it's own. It totally freaked me out, but it did completely close after about 10 weeks.

Hi hulya, hang in there! Days 5-8 were the worst for me with screaming on the toilet and fear of going. I promise, it does get better. I know its impossible to believe that right now with all the pain you are in, but it will improve. Are you taking pain meds? I tried to go off them too early, which was a huge mistake. They did make me constipated though, so I just took extra laxatives. If you can go to the bathroom, do so, even though I know its awful. Just don't strain! And if you can, get in the bath afterwards every time.

Hey Hulya, sorry to hear that. I had my operation 4 months ago. At that time doctor told me just 1-2 days is enough to stay at hospital and can go to work. But it wasn
t. It was completely different from what doctor told me before operation. I were in hospital for 5 days after operation without any walking except 10 meters from bed to bathroom. You are really better than me. You even walk in a street. So I believe you will be recovered within few more days. Be strong, it will be recovered even you make bowel movement in every day. In my case, I also used bathroom every day and it was terrible. I still remember this pain. I even couldn
t eat because of thinking this bowel movement and pain. I ate small amount of vegetables and fruits only. After 10 days from operation, I felt much better. After month, I felt near to normal but still not convenient. Now I`m completely fine. At the first 10 days, I thought there is something really gone wrong with my operation and it will not be healed. I was so worried every single hour. But it healed finally. At that time, I tried different ways to release the pain. Out of that, sitting in the warm water helped me a lot. Even make bowel movement in the bath. Yeah maybe sounds weird, but it really helped.Seems like you are strong mom. You are better than me. It takes little bit longer to recover comparing to normal bounds. But it will be healed soon. Be strong and just few more days left.

I am 4 weeks out now. The first 10 days seem unbearable. Then suddenly it gets better -- you are almost there! The first 2 weeks, I was in bed mostly, I couldn't do anything. After week 3, I started to feel more normal, and am able to walk around more now. I still have a little discomfort when going to the bathroom, but nothing like before. I know it seems like it will never get better, but I promise you are almost at the turning point, hang in there!

Hi Hulya. I
m from Mongolia and yes it wasn
t explained as doctor told me. But now I think he was right. If he told me it will take 2 weeks then I can imagine that I will postpone operation for certain weeks or even months, because I`m always afraid of any pain. I asked someone who did this operation before, some of them told me that really took 2 days then started to work in the office. I think that operation is different for everyone depending on hemorrhoids difficulty. But common thing is that it will be recovered even it is painful and even we use bathroom frequently. So this is timing matter. You will feel better day by day soon.
