Operation this coming Tuesday

Posted , 6 users are following.

I'm having open surgery on Tuesday to remove 11cm cyst, ovary and maybe the tube. (Still don't know what it is)

How long will I be under for?

Will I be able to sit up in bed after the op?

What kind of things do I take into hosptail with me? Been told I'll be there a few days but maybe more.

I'm not sure how much stuff to pack.

Also got told at my pre op yesterday I'll have these inflabable things on my feet and legs- anyone else had these??

I'll be on PCA machine of morphine and top up of any meds.

Is it worth me taking things to do?

I don't know what to take

    Hello Holly and everyone,

I have a "complex cyst" in my left ovary. Found it late December after I went in to see my GYN for sharp pain in my lower abdomen area. The pain went away the same day but I was sore and achy for the rest of the week. Then I was back to normal, no pain after that. But they ordered an US to check things, they thought it was just a ruptured cyst. That's when they found the "mass" in my left ovary. At the time of that scan (late Dec 2017) the cyst was about 5.5cm and all my pain was gone, no other symptoms. So GYN said that we should watch it and re-scan in 3 months. It might go away on its own.

Well, another US was done 3 months later and it showed the cyst still there and a bit larger, now about 7cm. So GYN ordered a CA125 test. Got the test done 4/6/18 - right after my period had finished. The nurse called me Monday this week saying my level was "slightly elevated" at 45. SO I FREAKED OUT! She calmed me down and said it does not mean I have cancer. It could be because of the cyst or other benign reasons. She said she's known a woman with a level in the 1,200 and it was not cancer, it was something else. But she said GYN ordered a CT of my abdomen and pelvis with contrast and I needed to try to get it scheduled as soon as I could.

I got the CT done yesterday. Today I have a follow-up appointment in 1.5hours with my GYN to review the results. I AM PANICKING. I am trying to stay calm but keep watching the clock countdown. Everything I have read so far points to this cyst I have is likely benign but the fear that they MIGHT FIND SOMETHING BAD is in me and I am having trouble shaking it. I need encouragement from all of you ladies who have gone through this and came out clear on the other side. Please wish me good luck. I want this nightmare to be over with.

hi alex, just saw your post and just wanted to say, i had something similar... complex ovarian mass on u/s last year nearly 5cm. i'm 33, had ca125 which was fine but had really bad sudden back pain and ended up having laparoscopic surgery in march. the elevated ca125 could very well mean endometriosis, it's notorious for elevating this tumor marker. i had no history of endo, nothing was seen on ultrasound but found out i had mild to moderate endo and my affected ovary was enlarged and stuck to my pelvis. biopsy confirmed all that. It's not a nice situation to be in but stay positive, always more likely to be benign.
