Good luck be sure to do all therapy started at day 1. Do not lay in bed all day push thru with the crutches. You can do it. I'm lucky I didn't have to take any pain medication on surgery. Ice and elevate. Walk every hour maybe 15 min then next day 30 min etc. Doing therapies helped me. I was late a day and have a blood knot now. But I'm walking in crutches and be able to put some weight on and seems progressing. I did acl arthroscopy with hamstring graft and part meniscus removal

Good luck. You will be in pain; that is a given but it does get better. Take your meds and follow your Doctor's order to the T. You will be fine. I had my TKR on 11/14/16 and am still in pain but more like an ache,
Take care.

I had my TKR on October 5,2016 and I don't have pain but discomfort and tightness. I am now realizing that it is going to take a year or so with me being 70 years old. The improvement is coming just slow much slower than I expected.

I'm 69...yup, this takes a year and the tightness, a "band" feeling, clunking, popping, etc. can last a lot longer. Expect it, embrace it.
Take heart...

Clara, I'm not sure that age has a lot to do with this. It just seems to vary hugely between people, young and old! I'm 67 and sailed through mine - tkr was 1st March this year, but I am aware that the second knee, being done later this year, might not be so easy - there just doesn't seem to be any guide as to how the body will respond. I think all we can do is the exercises given by the hospital before the op and any exercise we normally do too, before, so we're in the best place for when we get the op, and hope for the best! Then after the op, rest virtually all day, with leg elevated, and ice, and enjoy the rest!

Oh BRILLIANT! You WILL be absolutely fine. I understand you being nervous, and even though I breezed through my first one, I know I'll be a bit nervous the night before the second one - I think it's as reality suddenly hits:-)))) But just relax and they'll do their job well and we wish you an excellent recovery. Do let us know how you are when you can:-)))))

I too was very nervous, spinal block really worried me but didn't feel a thingand was sedated thought out and no recollection of the op, the thought much worse than the actual. It's very testing afterward I personally didn't suffer to much with actual pain afterwards took my painkillers but was on just paracetomal 3 weeks afterwards, I had a full replacement and resurfacing, it's differs I think from person to person. Hope for the best do your exercises religiously ice and rest. Good Luck.x

You are offically in the club and now all you have to do is pay your dues which happens tomorrow. Then comes the initiation with PT. Very few can honestly say they didn't have pre op jitters but better the patient than the Dr.
My standard line just before they knock me out: OK, did everyone go to the bathroom and Then wash their hands really good.....if so, lets get moving.
See ya on the other side....

Don't know where you are so time differences might mean you have had the surgery all ready. Pain management is the key to getting through this. My surgeon would only give me five days of pain meds. That meant going to his office or sending my hubby to pickup prescription. I am in Washington DC area and most hospitals here send you home with an ice cuff. If not, get on Amazon and order a cyro cuff, raised toilet seat and shower seat. I also found a knee pillow that I still use. It slides up your leg and covers the area with soft cushion.
Try to avoid hydrocodone. (Very constipating. That's norco and Vicodin) Oxycodone does not do that as much as the others. So make sure you have stool softeners on hand and miralax.
Relax tonight, if possible. Eat cookies, binge watch MST300.
Best of luck
Ellen
