Well I have an even sadder story. My ENT who graduated from Harvard andvYale diagnosed me with lichen planus. Had just one small sore lesion for months on tongue. Went to oral surgeon in Massachusetts. Removed lesion and diagnosed with stage 1squamous cell cancer. Now have to go thru more surgery to remove some of my tongue to be sure there are clean margins. I just knew it didn't seem like lichen planus Be proactive. I went to five doctors who told me it wasn't cancer.

Thank you Lynkidd so much for replying to me. I've been seen by ENT the consultant but he wasn't at all helpful. I felt like he had seen worse olp. My Dr has been so good to me he's prescribing me prednisolone steroids only through hot weather that's the time I find it to be at it's worst . 600ml of benzybenzydamine hydrochloride weekly and I buy Aloe Vera mouthwash. Amitriptyline 50ml and dihydrocodeine tablets for the pain. I feel so guilty that I'm on this much medication and I'm still unable to cope. I've also pulled my teeth out because they was rubbing against the olp. Reading everyone's reply to each other I see some have changed there diet to gluten free and it wasn't until I read it that I realise I eat a lot of gluten. I will definitely try to cut these things out of my diet from now on. I will have you in my prayers. And maybe one day medicine will find a cure God willing. Much love Rabia.

I have olp. Several months ago, I was like you, and miserable.

Some people get some relief with a lidacaine mouthwash.

I started taking anti-viral Rx last December.

I also use dental products that contain tee tree oil.

Plus I sparingly use tee tree oil directly on my lesions using a q-tip.

And, I've reduced my stress level by taking care of other health conditions that use up my energy.

Since last December I've seen a slow, steady improvement.

Good luck. I pray you get some relief and heal quickly.

I'm doing soooo much better. I feel so lucky and blessed. My biopsy did come back confirming OLP but it seems to be at bay right now. When ever I get a bump, lesion or twinge I use the Dexamethasone Elixir mouth wash and it seems to subside. I just live in constant fear it will come back like it was. I don't want to live through that again. I'm trying to reduce my stress levels but that's almost impossible. Thanks so much for asking!

I know what you have is painful but consider yourself lucky. My biopsy came back squamous cell carcinoma. Thank God stage one but have to have a small portion of tongue removed on Thursday.

I want to thank all of you for your kind words and prayers. While the surgery will be painful I hope to make a full recovery as it was caught early..stage 1. I wish you all well as I certainly know what a sore mouth feels like. I will let you all know how I'm doing after the surgery.

      love,  carolyn

My dr prescribed Prednisone ... 10 mg 3 X day ... after 2 months we are gradually weaning off. I'm now down to 10mg in the morning and 5 mg at night as my most recent outbreak is almost totally gone. I was also prescribed Acyclovir 3X day and I am now weaned off of it. It will take another 6 weeks to wean completely off but it will start all over if I get another outbreak. I just feel sooooo blessed it is in remission and you can bet I'll hit it hard and quickly if it starts up again. I hate the steroids but sooo much better than the pain that comes with an outbreak.
