Hi all, I have suffered with the erosive form of OLP for 3 years, confirmed with biopsy. I lost 30 lbs in 6 months because I could not eat. I have tried alot of things. Coconut oil has been the best. I started making my own toothpaste and noticed it got better. Then I just started using the oil strait. Swish & spit some before eating and it is not such a traumatic experience. I also started rinsing with a saline/bicarb rinse, 1/2 tsp salt with 1 tsp baking soda in a liter of water because plain water hurt to use. I have also used Dr. Arenander's mouth products with relief. A sesame seed oil for oil pulling and an organic essential oil rinse which is good. Another item I've tried is Glutamed 3 times a day. It is a medical food with glutamine and licorice which has properties of a steroid. It made several of my mouth lesions go away for a while. I also try to eat gluten free. I had a saliva test done for allergies, available at a compounding pharmacy (no rx required) for soy, gluten, dairy, and egg. The gluten came back positive so I avoid gluten. I cannot eat tomatoes, onions, or anything acidic. Still have tea but quit coffee with some improvement. I tried silver products without much success. Cinammon use can cause a reaction. The oral surgeon gave me lidex gel to apply for bad flare-ups but that really stings to use, more than the actual mouth lesions themselves. I was started on prednisone 5 mg daily but I don't think that helps any. I am on nsaid which may have precipitated the outbreak because I think I have had this for many decades but remained dormant. My dentist was no help. If you want to ask me something I have probably tried it! I also use a water pik with the orthodontia brush so it doesn't hurt so bad. Hope this helps someone.
