Oral Lichen Planus

I got diagnosed with inflammatory lichen planus 2 years ago. Certain foods really get my gums inflamed. I see my periodontist every 3 months for deep cleanings....but this is what I do daily that saved me:

1) every morning and every evening before I go to bed I gargle coconut oil (before brushing) for 20 minutes.

2) I take an antioxidant OPC3 every morning on an empty stomach 30 minutes before you eat-this stuff helped with the lesions I started getting on my lips that are now healed after 6 months of opening and closing it was so awful.

3) I take vitamins daily

1,000 mg Vit C

1 Turmeric Capsule

1 Calcium w/Vit D

1 Activated Charcoal Capsule

1 Vit D3

try itbanyone one and five me your feedback.

What is OPC3?  I’ll try the coconut oil. 👍

Hi..sorry, OPC3 is an antioxidant product made by Isotonix so you can buy it from the company as a 30 day supply or 90 day supply. It has seriously saved me. My lesion on my lip was opening and closing all the time and wouldn't go away but when my gums got inflamed the lesion would look swollen and open and it's like an open bruise on my lip (Coconut oil helped this lesion as well but just to lubricate it for a long period of time). I would love it for someone to try it all or which ever and post of whatever regimen worked becusse I slowing weaned into each treatment. For example after I got diagnosed I started the deep cleanings every 3 months then tte VIT C which helped decrease episodes of inflammation (which is also dependent on what we eat). Then my gums really started to recede and turn red so someone told me about the coconut oil....miracle...the inflamed episodes really decreased now. Then I talked to patients (I am a nurse) who suffered from cancer and developed oral lesions post Chemo and they told me about the Turmeric pills....these were great along with Charcoal which o started taking for my Acne so I am not sure if that helps but it helps with inflammation as well so who knows. My point is this must work because of I miss 2 days these products I swear to you I can start to feel my gums hurt as if they are going to start up again and hurt....Good luck!

I take 1000 mg of Lysine every day. That will keep my mouth 90% healed.

Have your gums receded from ont OLP? I feel like my turmeric pills have slowed if not at times stopped the receding process but I know that if I eat certain foods the burn causes severe irritation to my gums. But the receding gums scare me. My dentist is measuring them and watching them. Do you have that problem and if so does the Lysine help?

      Hi Betsy,

I too take 1,000mg of Vitamin C a day and as for the turmeric I take 1 tab it's the Costco "You Theory" brand its 1,000mg daily. But whichever one you buy should contain black pepper which increases the bioavailability of the supplement.

Can you take Vit C, lysine and tumeric all together?  You think it is ok?

      Hi Betsy,

I've never taken Lysine but I may try it I just need to research it a bit. But I do take my Vit C and Turmeric together along with my Vit D. I take Calcium every MWF as well.
