Oral Lichen Planus flare up

So right now my OLP is really bad.  Has anyone had same issues I have right now and if so, what treatment did you get or suggest.  My ulcers in back are very inflamed in the back of my mouth ( behind back molars) and along the gums line on the side of my mouth ( inner cheek below teeth).  Monday they started hurting really bad and now infected to the point that I have facial swelling,  facial pain fever and dizziness.  Went to the doctor and was given a high dose of antibiotics but oh my god the pain so so bad that I can't even drink water without being in pain.

I've had this since 2008 and this is the worst I have ever had.  Any suggestions would be great appreciated because since starting antibiotics, fever is persisting and dizziness started.

Thank you.  So desperate right now.

    When my OLP is very painful I use a mouthwash prescribed by my Doctor. I am from Canada but it is called Magic Mouthwash and your doctor can decide what formulation to use. If you Google it you can see different formulas. My mouthwash consists of prednisone and Lidocaine to numb the pain. Good luck and hope you can get something quickly.

      i was given the magic mouth wash to here is the US.  Stuff is great.  My issue now is that the ulcers are infected which is causing fever and chills.  I'm heading to ENT tomorrow to see what he says because the ulcer on my left side where all the swelling in my face is, looks infected.  Thanks for the reply.

      Hi

      I have posted prior about coconut oil pulling. It is amazing and removes all of the toxins in your mouth. If you are from the U.S. also try using Oracourt on your ulcers. Works overnight. You need a prescription but works great as well. You have to apply to a tissue dried area until a film forms. I actually use a blow dryer to make the paste dry quicker and create the film. Best to use at night before bed to ensure maximum benefits. I also cannot use antibiotics without a major flare up.

      I've got difflam mouthwash similar stuff but it's got alcohol and mint flavour so stings like crazy !!

      I use a mouth wash with no alcohol in it.  You have to read the label because even children's mouth wash has alcohol. You never know

      i have had 4 oral cancers so my suggestion is to find someone who knows about OLP and get checked often. My oral surgeon checks me every 4 months.  I am very lucky he is very skilled and I have never had radiation or chemo.  Get the best dentist who knows the disease and stick with him or her.  My first surgery was very serious because my dentist who always checked for problems missed a sign and I believe it want months before another dentist found it and sent me immediately to be checked.  It is ok to question your dentist before you stick with him. If he doesn't really, really know OLP move on and find a new one.

      Hi Elaine I can't believe the maxillofacial surgeon signed me off coz I didn't want his steroids after my mouth swelled up and was really sick he said this doesn't turn into cancer ! I'm now waiting to see a dermatologist ! However since I've used merc200 from my homeopath plus emuaid mouth has been pretty comfortable xxx

    Why on earth do they give antibiotics it will not cure olp it feeds it makes it worse my whole face blew up on them and I was violently sick . I beg you to buy some emuaid online it is so good it is ok to use in mouth although taste not too nice but put it on before bedtime and by the morning the pain relief is magic ! I couldn't even drink water when my tongue n cheeks inner lips were bad also try merc300 from a homeopath that literally clears mouth in 2 days I swear my thoughts are with you xxxx

    I think Antibiotics given because the OLP ulcer on my left side is infected.  Only thing I can think of because it started hurting really bad Monday afternoon and by Monday evening, my face there was swollen and I had a fever and chills.

    Most General Practice doctors don't know how to treat OLP. Please get an appointment with a dermatologist. Yes, a dermatologist , they treat diseases of the skin and your mouth is skin. They might do a biopsy to confirm that it is Oral Lichen Planus, but it will be worth it. There are many treatments or OLP. Some are just topical like salves or paste and some are systemic, like pills. 

    Keep searching. I know this is very painful and affects your whole life. Remember you are your best advocate for your health.

    How wierd you say that coz I asked my doc two days ago to please refer me to a dermatologist which she is doing ! Although I have already had a tongue biopsy by maxillofacial unit I'm so glad I've found you lot to help with suggestions we will conquer this xx btw does anyone know if soya is ok ??

    Glad your seeing a dermatologist. My biopsy was of my lower lip on the inside and it came back positive for OLP. I was put on Plaquenil and it helps tremendously,but it has side effects as they all do. I only had to take it for 3 months and my mouth cleared up. It might return, but at least I know what drug works on me.

    We really need this forum to  have support for this awful disease. I know I have found great comfort here.

    Betnesol 1 or 2 of the 0.5 mg tablets as mouthwash keeping in as long as possible then spitting out very thoroughly to avoid steroid side effects. 3x daily if bad cutting to 2x daily when improved. Sometimes need to use miconazole oral gel if there is thrush on the ulcers. Keeping a green tea extract tablet against a persistent ulcer for 5-10 minutes once or twice daily will speed healing.

      Hi John thanks for info will look into that coz I refused steroids coz was sick on them I'm trying to control it naturally lots of suppliments n veg

    My olp is in a similar place to yours. I was wondering if you had the pain and ulcers since being diagnosed or havethey come in over time?

      It started with white furry tongue year ago my doc gave me thrush meds for 5 months which made it worse n ulcerated whole mouth then I got proper olp diagnosed so now it flares up but sometimes is quite good ! Stress defo makes it bad fed up with mash veg n porridge !!!!
