ovarian cyst,adhesions and endometriosis

Hi,Im a 39 yr old mum of 3 and i have had terrible abdominal pain since 2004,all the different GP'S i have seen have said i had IBS.Any tablets they gave me were useless. Then in feb i went back once again but this time was offered swabs and a ultrasound.GP was very rude and did not

want to refer me as she was sure i was waisting time and money. My ultrasound showed a 10cm cyst on my right ovary, the radiographer insisted that i didn't go back to the same gp again.I then saw my gyno and she said that my symptoms were also signs of adhesions and ednomitriosis, that i'd have to have a endoscopy in 3wks to see whats going on.She doesn't seem keen on doing anything about the adhesions but if im in pain i think they should.

Can you give me any advice please.I also want my ovaries removed their all i have left after a hysterectomy in 2001. THANKS.

Hi to you all, i've just been reading your posts and i think i can share with you what youre all going through. 10 yrs ago i had a partial hysterectomy (they left both ovaries as i was only 34yrs). For the last 6yrs i've been suffering agonising abdo pain but dr's kept treating for urinary infection or ibs etc. then 2yrs ago i was rushed in to hospital with what they thought was appendics, but it wan't i had cysts on both ovaries that had burst  it was agony(they saw these through an internal ultrasound scan) anyway my gyny dr wanted to do a laproscopy which i had, and when dr came to tell me results of this i was told that they couldn't even find my ovaries because of mass adhesions

I was then referred to a general surgeon who did a colonoscopy, and an mri scan cos the gyny thought it was adhesions causing pain cos they attached to my bowel and bladder aswell. during the colonoscopy he removed a polyp and the mri couldn't show anything in my abdo cos of adhesions???? so whilst they don't show up on an x ray they do in an mri scan as it stops them showing other organs (if that makes sense)

i am still in alot of pain for which i take kapake and i also take movicol so as not to get constipated its more painful if i am consipated. i also taking anti depressants as being in pain almost everyday just wears me down both physically and mentally, and through all this i keep developing cysts which then burst then regrow and burst and so on, and they won't take out the ovaries cos it'll cause more adhesions and so on so it's a vicsous circle. been told they just treat me symptomatically when i have a bad episode and it will stop when i have finished menopause  i'm only 44yrs old and not yet started it........

I hope that anything of my experience with ovarian cysts/adhesions has been some help to you both.

wish you both all the best

 Hi Mollymay,I can soooo understand what your going through. We all seem to be in the same boat going round in circles with our health, but we can not carry on in constant pain. Why do these consltants think it's ok to pump patients full of pain killers until they come to a decision.I've now been put on Lasapresol because the pain killers are giving me a stomach ulcher yet my gp isn't sure. Now i'm on 19 tablets a day,you can hear me rattle before you can see me lol.

I can't sleep tonight i have pain in both sides of my abdomen.which is worrying because in my op report they said not to operate unless it was serious because they could not see any organs due to adhesions.I don't know if your aware but adhesions are a bit like webs that form after ops and thats all i know oh and their a bloody pain in the arse, sorry for the lanuage.

I will always be happy to chat to you about you worries no matter how small they are.this is the only place I fell someome understand swhat i'm going through, mouth 2010 has been a great comfort.

I feel for you all! My story is almost laughable and a catalogue of errors. Began in October last year with what was thought of as a water infection. GP treated as such. After three weeks pain no better so I ended up in A & E where they discovered blood in urging be and scanned for kidney stones. This was clear. Doc asked could it be period blood, 8I had to remind him I had no womb as had hysterectomy 5 years ago! And he's supposed to have seen scan! Sent home to see GP who the referred me to urologist who said I could have CT in 2 weeks but admitted I'd be seen quicker if I got myself admitted in A & E!! So I did. After a day in cubicle waiting I was admitted and laparoscopy performed, adhesions were found and treated where an ovarian cyst was also discovered but not treated. No follow up appointment. What followed is 12 months of pain getting worse to be told a month ago that's cyst is only 19mm on a 22mm ovary so oophrectomy not recommended. After complaining I've bowman been referred BACK to original surgeon for a surgical review as adhesions are now what they think especially as left ovary never visible. Been prescribed mebeverine to relax bowels to ease pain! You couldn't make it up!!! Grrrrrr

Sorry it took so long to reply just out of hospital again after a week found lesions in right ovary area and cyst gynea reckon not big enough to do anything about it CA125 test normal now been waiting 19 weeks for colonoscopy and upper GI told very long waiting list could be November. In constant pain all the time just take painkillers bloating and constipation awful after eating so dont feel like eating given antisickness pills and lacido oh whoopee. B****y sick of the pain lost the plot with the gastro when he sent me home and walked out without the letter told them to send it on to my GP, OH had a word with him and he said he could understand my frustration but they are short staffed due to sickness and holidays doesn't help me though said if the pain gets to bad to take me back. The way they treated some of the patients in there was awful couldn't have cared less and all they give in the way of pain relief is codiene or paracematol which was no good at all didn't touch it not allowed to take my own as not on their BNF. One Doctor actually sat at the end of the bed and asked me what i thought was wrong with me gives you loads of confidence doesn't it.

thanks for the reply nice to know i am not alone in this experience lots of other people are suffering as well, my pain is like a burning sensation and goes right down my leg to my knee at times just so bloody sick of quacks if i knew what was wrong i wouldn't be at the hospital asking them. 1 night while i was in there they put an antibiotic drip on another woman it shot off leaked all over the bed complained they would have to change her bed didn't help her out or in i had to give her a hand and she had just had her appendix out that day her son went nuts when he came in, another had bowel cancer hadn't eaten the whole time she was in threw everything up and they sent her home no information on where to get help nothing, i gave her a couple of books i found outside on support groups she could contact so helpful of them just told her she had 6 to 9 months you could see her getting worse by the day in there. I know there under pressure and underfunded and staffed but what happened to compassion?.

I agree with you 100% about hospitals they are a disgrace when i was in last they pulled faces when i complained about faeces on the curtain around my bed,we get enough infections with out that kind of thing,.Well my gp changed my tablets hes put me on Tramadol and Naproxen and Lansoprasol, movicol and more suppositories you can hear me before you see me.I hope they bloody work.I'm also deperssed but wouldn't give me anything for that i think half if the female population is depesssed because they are suffering from this.He was angry i had to wait so long to be seen yet did nothing about it.I know there is only so much a gp can do but he could kick them up the arse a bit and get me seen sooner.I have to eat every time i take a naproxen - that will make it worse.

Where i live they have lovely blue paper curtains around the bed and throw them away but don't change them after every patient which defeats the object a bit, same as you dread eating as it causes pain so take painkillers to stop the pain then get constipated which makes pain worse, I told the quack I thought i was on a merry go round getting nowhere fast. GP has tried his best poor man but he said he has no say over tests at the hospital so can't help, know he's getting crosser by the day he's the only 1 who has explained anything and tried to be helpful thank god for that.

Hello, how are you feeling now after being in hospital? I was quite comfortable last night and was going to sleep nicely but my hubby and children are so ill with colds that they all kept me awake its like the village of the damed here. The tramadol was powerful but took 2hrs to kick in, why i don't know.I wish i could go private but i guess i'd still have to deal with the same idiots in that hospital so not much point.

In terrible pain today eating is awful filling up on pain killers can sleep with the aid of pain killers and diazepam but really sick of them, so worried it's something awful that the idiot's haven't identified as yet hubby is trying to reassure me just have to wait for colonoscopy but it seems to be taking forever and they don't realise how bad the pain is or just don't care anymore, same as you don't know how much more i can take 1 day up the next down.

It's good to know someone understands how we feel my hubby tries his best but he can't do sympthetic.I went to see my auntie today shes been told she has 3mths to live shes been battleing cancer for 4yrs,shes skin and bone i keep thinking i could be worse then i wonder if i will end up like that. It's a cruel world, we have to suffer so much.

I haven't eaten much today cause the movical hasn't worked and im scared of over doing it.Then my friend got in a mood with me cause i wouldn't go out for the night and said i needed it.She has no idea what its like,i tried to explain that can't cope with alcohol and i would be too tired but she said i was miserable,i just burst into tears and i ended up apolegising to her.I told her she'd be perfect working for the nhs - no tact and no idea.I'm like you totally peed off. :erm:

so sorry about your auntie, same as you shove food in but doesn't seem to come out and they keep telling me i have to eat all i can say is you try it when your in pain cause you can't c**p goes into terrible cramps, can't sit to long, walk or lie down as to much pressure down below would do great as a flamingo could sleep standing on 1 leg would be about the most comfortable. Hope your friend never has to suffer this and why should you have to apolgise, i can't tolerate alcohol either and am constantly tired all the time just thank god i have no small children like you must be really tiring just keeping on top of housework and all the other stuff and there on half term at the moment so they have to be kept amused and watched all the time at the moment must be very hard. Take care and try and stay positive we can give each other support and moan and groan at each other and share probs.
