Ovarian Cyst Surgery in 2 days! Please help

Posted , 8 users are following.

About 2 months ago i got horrible pain which led to me going to the E.R , i was diagnosed with 2 ovarian cyst one on each side . The left side is about 12cm and im not sure about the right just know its smaller. I'm having surgery in 2 days and im petrified to say the least. Had my pre-op on thurs day but still unsure of the whole process. Removing my left ovary might be the best alternative , but shes unsure about my right or even taken out the cysts since she feels might cause damage to my ovary . Its just been crazy and emotional not knowing the aftermath or how life will be . Will i have different symptoms ? Sex drive ? Fertility ? Thank you in advanced and God Bless you smile

    Hi Maria!

I'm 20 and have a 8cm dermoid cyst in my left ovary. Like you I'm an emotional rollcoaster. I've been told by my specialist that their some of their patients have conceived 2-3 children on only one ovary, stating that it won't effect your fertility. I hope this helps. My procedure is either keyhole like you or (open cut surgery) which I THINK is the method I'm going with even though its not my preferred method. As she stated that she believes it will enable her to have a better chance of preserving my ovary/stop spillage from occuring.

I hope this helps and goodluck for your surgery! All the best!

    Hello

Thank you for all the brilliant info and tips here! Such a relief. I have a 10 cm(approx) dermoid cyst on my left ovary. My Consultant says it is nothing to worry about but I have managed to convince myself that I have Ovarian cancer! I have my op on 24th April and feel much more prepared now after reading this!

Thank you & good luck everyone

As others have said, big knickers are a god send.  Where I live it is hot so (having previously lost my uterus and therefore having no bleeding with ovaries being removed), I have gone without wearing any under clothes, which has helped the healing beautifully, as I have been open to the air.  However, my previous surgery was in the winter, so M&S cotton knickers were fabulous.  My sex drive has not changed, even with ovaries gone.

I hope that your surgery went well.
