Ovarian Cyst Surgery in 2 days! Please help

Posted , 8 users are following.

About 2 months ago i got horrible pain which led to me going to the E.R , i was diagnosed with 2 ovarian cyst one on each side . The left side is about 12cm and im not sure about the right just know its smaller. I'm having surgery in 2 days and im petrified to say the least. Had my pre-op on thurs day but still unsure of the whole process. Removing my left ovary might be the best alternative , but shes unsure about my right or even taken out the cysts since she feels might cause damage to my ovary . Its just been crazy and emotional not knowing the aftermath or how life will be . Will i have different symptoms ? Sex drive ? Fertility ? Thank you in advanced and God Bless you smile

Hi Maria. Sorry to here what you are going through.  Last January I had a hysterectomy but kept my ovaries.  But then found a large suspicious cyst on my left ovary in August, so had to go back and have another full operation just 9 months after the first.  I'm 43 and have children so decided to have both ovaries and tubes removed, also had womb out in the January so no chance of more babies anyway.  The operation is different for everyone.  My best advice is to be prepared to do nothin at all for the first few weeks and get lots of rest and help.  I'm on HRT which they started me on in hospital.  I get a little bit tearful sometimes and found that I went off different foods for some reason, but that's about all. I too was very worried about how I would feel as a woman and it was big thing for me and my husband to consider, but thankfully sex drive is still good. HRT has been a god send .  I know how hard it is not to worry and it really is a horrible ordeal that I don't think anyone truly understands until they are going through it.  Take care and keep me posted on how you get on xx. If you want to ask me anything please don't hesitate. It's always handy to be prepared xx

Thank you so much for taking the time and writting me back. It has been an emotional rollercoster thats for sure. I'm 25 and I have no children so that really hits me, the possibility of not being abel to conceive, all my friends either have babies or are preganant so not being able to experience that will be heart breaking , to be honest I probably cry once a day just thinking of that outcome. I'm glad your doing better, and hope your not in pain no more. Random question , hows the scar ? have you seen it fade ? i feel like i wont be able to wear bathing suits anymore , and eventhough thats the last thing i should worry about im a really self concious person about my body and im terified i might be scarred horribly.

I do hope that children will still be a possibility for you and luckily I didn't have thT to worry about.  I can't imagine how you must be feeling about that.  They will take your age and the fact that you've not had children yet into consideration  I'm sure they will do everything they can to preserve one of your ovaries.  My scar is great.  And bear in mind mine has been cut open twice in 9 months it's very faint and it's below the bikini line as well.  I have a bit of an apron now, but I have got weight to lose and am now on a diet.  You may get a numb sensation Round the scar area which is a bit weird. I still have a bit of that. But it's not painful now.  You just have to make sure you don't lift anything at all for a while and do nothing strenuous.  No hoovering or ironing for at least 6 weeks even if you feel well enough to.  It's a big op inside. Xx

Sorry forgot to mention gas pain.  It can be painful.  Try to eat plenty of fruit and drink lots of fluids.  Peppermint tea is suppose to help. I didn't think it did anything for me.  It's just something you have to get through and never feel embarrassed about passing wind on the ward. If it's there let it out. Everyone else will be doing the same trust me lol.  I found the best way to sleep was to get a couple of firm pillows under my knees For the first couple of weeks until I could get back onto my side.  I hope this is helping, the last thing I want to do is scare you.  Just keep thinking in a couple of months this is going to be behind you, and you can get on with life again. Xx

I really do appreciate it , not scared, its really helping me have an insight about the situation and what to expect afterwards. I'm relieved to know the scar wont be as bad. I know the surgeon will try her best to do whats right for me, but i just cant get that thought out of my head even if i try. As for arriving at the Hospital , am i allowed to wear socks? i know its a dumb question but they only told me about loose fitting clothes for afterwards as well as no lotions, perfumes ext. But i heard its cold in thr op room

The catheter overnight was great as I am out to the loo at least 3 times a night, also my scar has healed nicely, had dressing changed 5 day after op and took the new one off today day 11

Definitely loose fitting clothes.  If you have to have full op you will have a catherta for first night. So take a nightshirt as well as very loose pjs as tummy will be swollen for a little while after.  Don't worry about socks as they will give you a super sexy pair of stockings that you have to wear for the op and a few days after to prevent blood clots.  I'm afraid fashion goes out of the window.  I know you are only young but something I would highly recommend and that is big full knickers.  I gave into them as they were so comfy and went right over my scar and tummy. Trust me they are all in the bin now but they were a god send. I just got a couple of cheap packs from asda.  I learnt to be prepared after my first op xx
