Ovarian Dermoid Cyst - Very Painful!!

I started having pain in my lower left side in October of last year, it wasnt too bad so I didnt go to the doctors until january as I thought it may go away. I suspected I may have a Cyst and told the doctor and he refered me for a scan. I had a scan in mid Feb and I was diagnosed with a Dermoid Ovarian Cyst, it was about 3.5cm. I had another scan the other day and it has grown to 5cm. I have been refered to a gynocologist and been told that its going to take 20 weeks. I went back to the doctors because its causing me a lot of pain, but he said just to take pain killers (which doesnt really help) Iv been getting really really tired lately and doctor thinks that it could be related to the cyst.
The pain is getting me down, today I was in agony, I had a really sharp pain and I couldnt move, I was in tears. Im not going to be seen for another 4 months at least and I dont know what to do! Im worried its going to grow bigger.
Has anyone else been through similar experiences? How can I relieve the pain, Iv tired pain killers and warm baths but nothing works. Im only little and worried about how big the cyst is going to get, how quickly do these things grow? Mine got 1.5cm bigger in 5 weeks, so Im hoping it might stop for a bit!
Thank you

Hi
I totally relate to you. I had a lot of bladder infections and uti, but a really painful dull ache at bottom of back. Constant and then in waves at times excruciating 2-4hrs where all I can do is lie with eyes shut till it passes. Exhausted. Am currently taking cocodomol which means pain is doable most of the time. Had ct scan-which I had to push for-found dermoid ovarian cyst 5x5. This is the cut off at this size onwards needs to go as can twist and rupture ovary. Should've done within 7 weeks, had apt, had letter putting it back another 4 weeks so now going private. The pain at times is so intense and makes you feel sick and faint. Kick up a stink and fight for what you need. Heat pads help

Really sorry to hear about your situation. Infuriating that your left with no choice but to go private!
I received quotes but hust couldn't consider. I now have private HC as i cant consider going through the same drama with NHS again.
Keep us updated with your op and how it goes. You will be ok.

I am having the same symptoms you ladies are having.. Ladies don't sit in pain Call your gym doctor how much pain your in and aso are there any other options. I am going to have another pelvic ultrasound in the morning then the nurse will schedule the surgery. When I had my appointment with the gyn, she said I would automatically go into menopause . Hell I'd rather go into meneupause than to sit here in this awful pain.. Cause I can't take it anymore.. Check with your GYN.. Please. I registered on this site so if anyone doesn't know what other options there are at least maybe one of you would know.. I feel all of you all's pain. I wish men could go what we go through. But we are stronger and we get through it.. Peace. Feel better. Alea

Dear Tracy, I hope you are feeling a bit better by now. Just wondering if you found something that helped you with the pain? I've got pain in the lower left abdomen area but it's only a little cyst. I have to go back to have another US in about 4 weeks to see if it has gone away. I doubt it. Not according to the pain. I'm on ibuprofen, 2 tablets a day but would rather try some herbal stuff. Any suggestions?

Hi, similar experience here!
I was told I have a right ovarian dermoid 3.2cm in size. After 2 months I had another check and it has grown to 3.5cm. My dermoid, I have been told twists a lot and I was all booked for my operation to remove it. But since then I fell pregnant and my surgery was cancelled due to risk of miscarriage. Drs said no surgery can be performed whilst I am pregnant and surgery will be done 6-12 weeks after my baby is born. I am now 14 weeks pregnant and in a lot of pain. My dermoid twists a lot. Drs have said that it could rupture aswell. Really worried as I still have a long time until baby arrives and this dermoid is already debilitating me. The pain is unbearable. I fear it will get worse as my baby grows bigger. 😔

27 years old. 4cm dermoid cyst was discovered on my right ovary during annual gyno exam. No symptoms/pai n/discomfort whatsoever. Given the choice to leave it or get it taken out. Chose to get it removed (keyhole surgery).
Had the surgery yesterday. Relatively pain free straight after op. Today was more sore. Painful ribcage and shoulders from gas. Tenderness and bloating of stomach. Slightly harder to get around. Severe constipation. Working from home for first 2 days and plan on being back in the office by the third day.
Btw for anyone having to have an ovary removed - this does not affect your fertility!
Glad I caught mine in my 20s, the women in their 50s just finding them sound like they're going through Hell
Everyone, go to your annual appointmemts!!! Prevention is key!

As a male I cannot actually know what it is like But males do get these or similar cysts. I suggest a book written by LOUIS BERNIERS called I believe 'The Children of Cardinal Suzman'. My granddaughter has just had an op to remove a dermoid cyst. She was ill enough to report to one of the Lonon Hospitals whilst visiting friends and was diagnosed with an OVARIAN cyst. She was give a date for surgery there and then in less than a month. The 'op' revealed that she had a DERMOID cyst as described elsewhere on these pages. A week later she still feels bloated but had enough sense to ask questions. She has been tols dthat the 'bloating is most likely to be as the result of the KEYHOLE SURGERY that require CO2 to be pumped into the body cavity soas to 'spread' the cavity. I'm surprised thaatv this has not been mentioned on these pages as far as I can see, She has been told that the CO2 will dissipate in time. THgere are also ion thezse pages several references to ALTERNATIVE medical treatmentsNOT a good idea and remarks like 'it is known' and 'it is proven' regarding such treatments is DANGEROUS. Any treatment whether alternative or conventional that effects physiology will have SIDE EFFECTS however minor. Because something is labelled as being 'natural' DOES NOT MEAN NO SIDE EFFECTS. Heroin, Opium, Morphine, Nicotine, Cannabis. Cocaine Hemlock, Deadly Nightshade [ATROPINE -under control used as an anti-nerve agent] are all NATURAL.
