Ovarian Dermoid Cyst - Very Painful!!

Posted , 124 users are following.

I started having pain in my lower left side in October of last year, it wasnt too bad so I didnt go to the doctors until january as I thought it may go away. I suspected I may have a Cyst and told the doctor and he refered me for a scan. I had a scan in mid Feb and I was diagnosed with a Dermoid Ovarian Cyst, it was about 3.5cm. I had another scan the other day and it has grown to 5cm. I have been refered to a gynocologist and been told that its going to take 20 weeks. I went back to the doctors because its causing me a lot of pain, but he said just to take pain killers (which doesnt really help) Iv been getting really really tired lately and doctor thinks that it could be related to the cyst.

The pain is getting me down, today I was in agony, I had a really sharp pain and I couldnt move, I was in tears. Im not going to be seen for another 4 months at least and I dont know what to do! Im worried its going to grow bigger.

Has anyone else been through similar experiences? How can I relieve the pain, Iv tired pain killers and warm baths but nothing works. Im only little and worried about how big the cyst is going to get, how quickly do these things grow? Mine got 1.5cm bigger in 5 weeks, so Im hoping it might stop for a bit!

Thank you

This is crazy. I like in Texas and I get my test results same day or next day. I can see any doctor at any time. Why does it take so long in the UK? I guess with the rate Obamacare is going it will be like that soon here. My cyst is big, but I don't want surgery unless I absolutley need it. Anyone take longer than 6 weeks to recover? I just can't imagine being down that long. I am going to try and wait it out to see if it stays the same or maybe shrinks. Yuck. My CA 125 was high, but then it went back down. Fingers crossed. I'm so sorry your healthcare system is SOOO Awful.

my recovery was 2 1/2 months for a cyst the size of 2 grapefuits the longer you wait the more it grows they had to cut me and that take a longer heal time. and you are so bored and can't do anything

I get so annoyed with the medical profession when they deny that dermoid cysts cause pain.  I had severe back pain before I was diagnosed with one, but I think  my level of pain was because I had a slipped vertebrae (and possibly the cyst was pushing my internal organs against a nerve).  I only discovered the slipped vertebrae after a CT scan which I was given to identify what the lump on my ovary was.

I had a ultra sound scans and I had a cyst 5.5cm they told me it was a simple cysts and shouldn't cause pain. For the time being they gave me buscopan, paracetamol and ibuprofen. A week later I was in agony, couldn't eat or hardly walk. I was sent to hospital with suspected grumbling appendicitis. I had bloods and urine test. An internal ultra sound. The cyst had popped and they thought that caused the pain. The said it should go in a few days. I then didn't get better infact it got worse. My doctor put me on kodene. My mum wasn't happy as I'm only 16. But if it doesn't get better I will be back in hospital...

I am in the same boat. I have had my second laproscopic keyhole surgery a week ago. They did remove my cyst on the right side. From being told it will go away I have now found out it's going nowhere. Im so emotional as I can't help my husband and son around the house. I have crying so much as the pain is excruciating. It takes my breath away. Pain killers are not working. It's too soon for another operation.

I had  Dermoid Ovarian Cyst on my right side about 10 years ago the size of 2 grapefruits when they found it, I was in no pain but tummy was very big. it was removed ( they had to cut me from my belly button down to my pubic bone) I was out of work for 2 1/2 months but when it was over I lost all of my tummy and felt great. Now 10 years later I am having pain in my left side and my tummy has returned back to and passed the size it was back than, I am thinking I have one the same size if not bigger on the left side now. I wish they would have just removed it all the first time.

    Hi Guys,

    Im hoping for some advice.

I took myself to a&e as was in alot of lower left pain. Had an ultra sound which showed a dermoid cyst on my left ovary 8cmx7cm. They kept me in on a gynae ward and said that there was low blood flow to the cyst however they ciuld not confirm if it was twisted or not. They gave me the option to have an emergency open surgery op or leave and be referred for an urgent op which would be anything from a month to two months. I confirmed id prefer to just gave removed.

As i was waiting for my porter to take me down to my op (pre op checks completed, gowned and ready) a doctor came to see me and said they were sorry but were to busy on the emergency op list to do ny op and they would have to discharge me and wait for a referal. They suggested that as i was not vomiting and screaming out in pain they did not see it as an emergency.

I am in great pain, incredibly terrified and feel in limbo. I cannot understand why they will not remove this immediately giving the fact i am in a lot of pain and exhausted. If i drive ut hurts going over bumps, i cant bend and im constantly in pain and worrying.

I had a panic attack the other day because im so scared.

They have advised it will be open surgery bikini line op but cannot confirm how long i will have to wait. I am worried it will twist, rupture (if it hasnt already).

Not sure whether to just get a loan and have ut done privately or wait and pray it doesnt damage my tubes and right ivary in meantime.

I really feel scared and a little helpless...

This happened to me,went to a&e,was on a ward and they controlled my pain with pain relief, then said I should go home and come back in for surgery via appointment,I lasted 12 hours at home, had to be rushed back in...if you really feel that something is wrong, get back to a&e,and do not leave until the operation is done! I literally thought I was dying because the pain was that bad.

      Hi everyone.

I had the cyst removed on the 25th July by open surgery bikini line.

I was given lots pf morphein and was in hospital for two days after but had to be brought back in due to having urinary retention caused by having anaesthetic and a catheter during surgery.

I was then in hospital  a further two days and was discharged with a catheter bag for a week as i had nerve damage to my bladder due to how stretched it became.

To give you all peice of mind, the thing that actually effected me the most was the bladder problem and how uncomfortable the catheter was. The actual incision is sore and your tummy gets pretty swollen yes, but if you allow yourself to rest two/three weeks properly then you should be fine.

      Tips

-Make sure you get lots of loose t shirt dresses for the weeks after your surgery as you wont want anything near your tender tummy

      - Salt and cotton wool to clean your incisions daily

-Someone is home ideally to help you for atleast 2/3 days after you are discharged

      -  I didnt wear any nickers for two weeks under clothing as all sat and touched my scar regardless of the types i bought

      -  Try and arrange to sleep comfortable downstairs if you can as i couldnt take the stairs for a couple of days as all my internal stitches felt like they were being tugged a little

      - When they discharge you, if you do not feel ready to leave, DONT! I was discharged far to early for open surgery and had an infection and retention. I informed them something wasnt right and i was in pain, but the doctor said i was fine and sent me away with antibiotics, only for me to be rushed back in a fay later with 1500ml in my bladder.

      - Two of my friends have had keyhole and the healing and recovery is of course so much better so if you are having this and not open surgery, please dont worry so much, all of it is daunting and scary but what a sense of relief you get when it's finally gone!

      - Get some cuprofen  from pharmacy after, as it is pvee the counter pain relief for after surgery and was the best put of them all that i could use at home.

      - The biggest advice i have to get your op completed sooner.. Dont stop going into a&e with the pain. I ended up having mine out a month sooner and being booked in for elective surgery becuase i never stopped ringing and going into a& e becuase i was in pain and wasn't willing to just swallow it and dose myself up.

      Push push push!!xxx

Scheduled for cystectomy in two weeks.. 😢😨 I feel scared since this will be my first operation. I have 7cm right ovarian cyst and a 3 cm daughter cyst.

Accidentaly found it while practicing to use the ultrasound machine. by the way, I do not feel any symptoms. Everything is normal except for the acnes that popped up 4 months ago when I discovered the cyst.

At first it was just 6 cm and then i went for a ff up after 2 months taking pills, it grew bigger to 7.4 cm and added 1 more 3 cm daugher cyst.

The operation seems scary and daunting, but I assure you,all will be fine...

Take a couple of weeks off school/work if possible..the recovery takes some time, like every operation time is key to recover fully!
