Overwhelming anxiety and ocd

Hi I'm new here and desperately seeking advice! I am 25 female, mum of a three year old , third year student nurse and work part time 😖 - very busy!

I have always been anxious and obsessive especially in relation to health - from about 5 years old.

I have experienced random Muscle twitches widespread for years and it's very unnerving. Been to gp a lot who simply say anxiety. Had blood tests all okay but I live in constant fear of neurological conditions and I don't know why. I'm planning to start citalopram as of next week. However I find myself zoning In on something new like shaky legs going only downstairs. I can be rational at times and say its just anxiety but other times like now I'm convinced the gp Has missed something. They don't seem concerned but I get into panic mode and cannot rationalise. I was hoping someone could offer words of wisdom as its taking over my life 😩

Thanks.

Hey thanks for replying. Yes they have indeed and all bloods were okay so that made them even more satisfied it's just anxiety yet I'm not convinced.

Sounds like you are all going through a lot of anxiety and yes that can make your muscles twitch everything else you know what might relax you was a hot bath with some epson salt and lavender Epsom salt is full of magnesium that sinks right into the muscles and helps relax and give it a shot

I will give it ago Chris thanks for the advice. I think I'm in need of medication for the obsessive component. Things like baths and exercise only provide temporary relief 😩.

Well good luck to you sometimes the small relief feels huge when you're wrapped up with anxiety believe me I know

It is your anxiety !!!! I know it's horrible & can be very debilitating! I have had it all my life as well. I've been on & off meds since I was in my 40's. As absurd as it may sound I didn't know what was wrong with me until a few yrs ago. I would have opted for theraphy & supplements but had no idea that option was available to me until this last bout with my anxiety a few months ago. Try going the route with theraphy & a homeopathic that will give you the supplements you need . A lot of blood work is required. But they say it takes the natural supplements a lot longer to kick in. As for the citralopram I've taken it & it worked well for me. I wish you blessings & quick recovery! Oh! The meds also take some time to kick in as well .

Thanks rose for replying. It's like a life sentence living with it isn't it 😂 None the less we all have to try and manage it because it's not going away 😩. Hoping the meds will help and I have found its a poorly understood condition especially with GPS! Nothing worse than being told to keep your self busy, how insulting. I will look into homeopathic treatments. Thanks very much ?

I saw a great feels like your anxiety is like a ball and chain around your foot that you just keep driving and it won't go away I wake up with it in the morning I go to bed with it in the evening it's awful and went to my GP and he wanted me to have a brain scan done he told me I could have a brain tumor yes I'm looking for a new GP

    • Posted

Oh my that must be extremely unsettling for you 😩 I'm sorry to hear that Chris. Is your gp just ruling things out to help to reassure you?

No he just felt since my blood work didn't show anything that the next alternative was a brain tumor which Panic me even more I know I don't have a brain tumor I don't have double vision I'm not passing out I'm not dizzy he just is a man who writes things often open the door for you and says well that's my answer

They are funny beings at times, not a good idea to make those suggestions to a person with anxiety! Maybe a second opinion is a good idea! As I say it's poorly understood by most healthcare professionals.

And when I asked him if I could get a prescription for my nerves he wrote something down on a prescription pad and gave it to me as I left and when I got in the car it said take a vacation someplace warm and sunny

I get the twitchy muscles when anxiety is really bad, I thought at on time it was MS, and all manner of nasties.

My legs get so bad you can actually see the muscles moving, if I sit in a bath, they make little ripples in the water.

Please hun, try to stop fixating on the twitching, it makes it worse, I know, believe me.

Try to believe in your doctor, and trust its all down to anxiety, unfortunately anxiety especially health anxiety, comes with a myriad

Of seemingly very real symptoms, which only get worse the more notice you take of them.

Relax, listen to a guided meditation, loads on u tube, anything you find relaxing,

Its very hard I understand to ignore, a twitch, a pain, or whatever, but, the more notice you take, the more you feed your fears, everything becomes exagerated.

The mind is a very powerful tool, and can conguer up all sorts of crazy symptoms, and thoughts, none of which can harm you but are nevertheless really scary.

    Hope this helps a little.....

Hi Wendy thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate you advice, its the advice I would offer to myself if I had to. It just doesn't stick. I think it's the obsessive part that takes me back to square one on a daily basis. I will try guided medication I have heard its good for anxiety.

      Thanks very much again ?

Yes try the meditation as i say load on u tube to chose from, find something you like and sit and listen daily to the same one, if you put in meditations for anxiety and stress, lots come up.

Also have you tried eft tapping, I stumbled across a guided video online one day while feeling very trembly, heart racing ect, i followed the video, and at the end of it the girl said you should be feeling better now, and yes I suddenly realised i was, all symptoms gone, and didnt return until the next day. Worth a try methinks,

You also say the advice i have given is what you would give yourself, well i and all the others give advice to ourselves, we know the answers, we just cant follow it through, the same as you, if we could this forum would not exsist. We all of us just have to try.

An old saying comes to mind, 'what doesnt kill you makes you stronger'

Hi again Wendy, I haven't heard of eft tapping and will definitely look into it! 😄 it's silly isn't it when we can't rationalise things for ourselves ? im having a look of YouTube just now and bookmarking things to revisit during my heightened times. Thanks for your input xx
