Pain after acute attack

Hello,

I had my first acute attack of pancreatitis 2 weeks ago. Spent 2 days in hospital on IV fluids and NG tube. Lipase levels 115. I continue to experience mild pain (not taking any medications) in my right upper abdomen which is not associated with food (actually food makes it better). No alcohol or fat foods since attack. My concern is that I still experience pain after 2 weeks where in majority of literature patients with mild pancreatitis experience pain only for 7-10 days. What is your experience with pain after acute attack?

Thank you

Just an update after 4 years.

So for about 1.5 years since my initial attack I have been suffering from ongoing pains similar to the ones I experienced during my attack. Every time I was worried it was another attack and as a result countless ER visits with normal BW MRI nuclear test etc. Tried digestive enzymes, smooth muscle relaxants with no relief in symptoms. None could really understand why I continue to have pain.

At the same time I was eating super healthy: lean meats, limited fat, carbo, sugar, vegetables fruits ets. Was eating a lot of beets to help with digestion and apples etc. Exercise. Lost 40lbs (welcome loss) Of course no alcohol.

One day at conference I heard about FODMAPS for IBS (never had IBS or issues with digestives system prior). So I though  I would give it a try....

In 2 weeks 0 pain. For the past 3 years I have been eating steaks, ice-cream, cakes etc. Allowing myself wine now and then with no return in symptoms.

All the healthy foods I have been eating were high in FODMAPS that negatively effected my digestive symptoms.

Again that worked for me and might not work for other people but I suggest to give it a try.

What exactly are FODMAPS and what should I do with them? Do you smoke them? Kidding. But really, did you go with a diet low in FODMAPS or high in FODMAPS?

I am pretty much a health nut, so to speak, and I was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis 2mths ago, after having pain for around 3mths prior. My Lipase readings were 512, so I was hospitalised for 5dys, and given pain meds and an intravenous drip for hydration, that didnt help. There was no cause found to why I had Acute Pancreatitis, so I decided to research my current medication. I found that a medication that my not usual GP had put me on, had actually caused it. I immediately stopped the medication, and had regular blood tests afterward, only to find my Lipase levels were dramatically dropping. My Lipase levels are now at 45, BUT I still get Pancreatic pain, even 2wks after my Lipase levels are back to normal.

      Hi Natalie,

How are you feeling now? And what was the medication you were using that was contributing towards the problem

hi there, please can you tell me what us the pain killer you use, my partner has had acute pancreatitis and is in a bad way. The head and tail of the pancreas has died he is in a rehabilitation centre now but is unable to rehabilitate because he's in so much pain.

Ive just connected with two pancreatic cancer UK specialist nurses and i now realize the Creon enzymes he needs to take may need reviewing because if he's not on enough he will get all these unpleasant and terrible symptoms .

hope you might be able to provide me with some advise or hope.

    Kindest regards

my attack happened on March 9th. my gallbladder shot a stone into my pancreas and it felt like a bomb exploded. I spent 9 days in the hospital, my lipase was 43541. i too was hoping for death because of the pain. but today im grateful to be out of the hospital, off pain meds. i have a stomach ache all day, but its only about a 2. in a few weeks ill get my gallbladder out. but from all the reading I've done, i know ill have to have a low fat diet the rest of my life. i didn't really drink before, so that shouldn't be a problem. Until you've had pancreatitis, you don't understand how life changing it is.

Hi!! Had my first acute attack of pancreatitis 6 weeks ago. Spent 9 days in hospital . On 9th day, they took out my gallbladder. Fast forward to this week, had another attack. They can't figure out what is causes it. No alcohol or medication in 8 weeks. They did every test imaginable. my emzymes were 14,400 last time and 12,000 this time. I am currently in hospital since Sunday. Hoping to go home tomorrow. Chances of not finding a cause is 5%, why can't I be that lucky with the lotto?

i know this post is from years ago but i just wanted to see how long the pain last. im 31 and was in the hospital almost 5 days. had sludge in gallbladder, gallstones that got lodged in my pancreas causing pancreatitis , free flowing bile in my abdomen, and ruptured ovarian cyst. my lipase was at 19,102 and went down after i had my gallbladder removed and was discharged. 2 weeks lately and my pain is coming back and lipase is slowing starting to get higher (currently at 500 so def not as bad as before) but i feel like i can feel the pain more since i dont have as much going on. hoping this doesnt mean i have chronic pancreatitis and hoping the pain and nausea ends soon .
