I've been dealing with this PMR for about two years I cannot take prednisone flares me up. Iam on natural supplements and helps with the inflammation but not working for the pain all over. Anyone on something other than the prednisone? I wake up in morning or sitting to long iam so stiff back, knees, heel of foot, joints, neck just all over can't take no more. Please any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

It must be terrible facing PMR for so long without being able to take prednisone, which is such a life-saver for most of us. I assume you have tried Omeprazole to protect the stomach- it helps some people who can't tolerate NSAIDs and prednisone.

Have you been given a trial on methotrexate, a drug used in rheumatoid arthritis which (based on reports oaths forum) seems to help some with PMR.

Also, there is a relatively recently approved drug used for GCA, tocilzumab (Actemra). Though it is not officially approved for PMR, since the two disorders are verily likely closely related, some doctors have tried it with PMR.  Since you are not able to take prednisone and are suffering so much, perhaps you could ask your doctor about this.

Good luck- I hope this long haul of pain will end soon!

Hi, I am on omeprazole was on it when I was on prednisone had bad reflux so I had to get off the prednisone. My doctor did tell me about methotrexate but had bad side effects. She said it could cause eye inflammation so I turned it down.
