Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers.  I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be?  Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

Have you received a dianosis? Ive got something sumukar occuring now and seeking info.

This past weekend I noted what I'd describe as an odd pressure/, sorenessnear near the outer edge of my right rib cage about where my bra crosses. I've been stretching out my right side as it feels like a muscle soreness in some aspects. It's not going away and it becomes aggravated after wearing a bra all day. Another symptom is an odd numbmrss sensation on my skin in same area as the soreness. Looking for info. Thank you

Update, so the muscle soreness is gone, but now I've got a number if weird blister type spots on my trunk, around my bra line front and back. My issue maybe Shingles, unable to strap on a bra due the intense pain.

same here but lower than the bra, soreness at the edge of the lower right rib, and/or feeling of pressure, or pinch under the rib. I get muscle spasm like this, I stretch it out as well. What did you find out?

I have this without the numbness - did you get a diagnosis?

HI everybody. new to this forum, but been experiencing same issue for over ten years. I've self diagnosed this to an issue with Hepatic Flexure, which is where youre large intestine folds/turns under your liver. also you can suffer on left side (i don't) with splenic flexure, ie the turn of the colon on the left side under the spleen. This is why pain/discomgort comes and goes. I've had every test imaginable and nothing showed anything other than normal with liver, kidney, pancreas, gall bladder was removed and still discomfort persisted.

i've started excercising area to try and minipulate the colon. Hip rotations on my back, roles on back with knees tucked and generally being more active, with specific focus on squashing, twisting and turning this area. HAS defo hrlped relieve the discomfort. I read that these conditions are life long, but not too serious. Keep this post going, keep sharing exercise routines that help.

Hi. Related to Hepatic Flexure, do you notice if you are constipated is the discomfort is worse?

MALS and Slipped Rib syndrome pain are both worse with constipation. Magnesium has helped me a lot with constipation. I've also eliminated white flour from my diet.

what form of magnesium do you use for constipation? what amount and how often? thanks

Hi! I've been feeling this too except I have it on both the sides. It feels like a constant dull pressure below my chest/rib area on either sides. My GP diagnosed me with acid reflux but it seems different idk

I'm delighted to have found this thread as I've been experiencing same for a year or so, I have a hiatial hernia causing gastritis and oesophageal damage, but this pressure/twist sensation has started in last couple of years and the explanation of hepatic flexure is really interesting. I used to find the pressure/ball under the rib getting worse when in the car for a while but it suddenly worsened one day while doing yoga, feels like something twisted when I bent forward, and when it flares up all my core muscles/back muscles tighten up so that I can't sit upright without support for long. Following this thread with interest!

I have the same or very similar. Feels like something is caught, clipped... pinched... (hard to describe) when I bend over or get up, and heavy and bloated othertimes. I'm thinking it's my intestines because sometimes I get really sore from the top of my rib cage to my pelvic area. I have a hiatal hernia, diagnosed with IBS and GERD. Lots of tests. Today I was bending over painting when I started to straighten up I felt the "catch" and had to slow down, sitting after that was uncomfortable. I could feel a spasm coming on, so I tried to adjust my position to stall it. I get spasms in my lower stomach and sorry to say in my anus as well - it's a shrill sharp pain that will wake me right up. In the evenings while sitting to watch the news my bra becomes unbearable and when I'm sore top to bottom a bra is a no go. I've gained a few lbs since COVID and I'm not active as I should be... Going to google Hepatic Flexure it is the best explanation I've come across so from. So thanks jon5676.

Thank you for sharing this -- I've never heard of hepatic flexure. I too, started feeling this about 10 years ago, at 40. Had all the tests done -- so many tests! CT found everything normal except 2 cysts on my liver, went to a liver specialist, who said it was all fine. Had the HIDA, endoscopy, all was normal. All the doctors kept referring to it as pain, but it's not at all painful, just that ball of tightness under my lower right rib cage (and yes, I've felt that strange fluttering too, infrequent, but still, it happens). The feeling is more annoying than anything else and frustrating because the docs couldn't figure it out. The first doctor I saw about it guessed it was anxiety and gave me some meds that didn't help and I didn't need. I am always on my laptop and tend to hunch forward and to my right a bit, so I have been trying very hard to improve my posture. I am active and it does feel better when I'm walking or doing pilates. It's a weird thing, but I'm glad for this thread because at least I know it is a real thing and not just me. Off to google hepatic flexure. Thanks again!

oh boy Susan990 this is exactly what I have. I have the hiatal hernia, oesophageal damage and this dreadful ache, the pressure/twist sensation. It flares up at night once I lie down and I can't sleep on my right side (and it is still aching when I lie on my left side nowadays. Some days it flares, like today, and I feel washed out and don't want to do anything. I wish I knew what it was and what triggers it.

Have you ever looked into slipping rib syndrome ? there isnt much information about it online however your symptoms are very similar to mine. Usually occurs in your 8- 11th rib i think. That clipping feeling could possibly be damaged rib cartilage which is making your rib slip under the one above and catching against it.
