Pain from epididymitis is not going away

This is a second thread, since the first one's title is now a bit misleading.

To sum up, I freaked out about pain in my left testicle, left leg and left abdominal area. Ultrasound and urine test came clean. The urologist touched my left epididymis and it was hella painful, and told me it was obviously an epididymitis. He gave me Cipro 500mg x2 a day for 2 weeks.

I felt better at first. The pain turned into discomfort. 2 weeks later and it seemed that the pain came back nearly as strong... Doc told me to take Cipro for one more week. Treatment ends today and I'm going back to the urologist tomorrow, but I'm worried because 3 weeks of antibiotics just didn't make me feel better. Any contact with my balls makes them painful all over again.

Was the diagnosis wrong? Or do I just need more/another antibiotic? I don't want this to become long-term....

hey guys, someone who is dealing with quite vicious prostate and testicular infections right now here! actually, I've been battling the prostate for 6 months and 3 antibiotics. levoquin, doxycycline, and i just finished a month on ciprofloxacin. the infection spread to my testicles about 5 weeks ago. my urologist now wants me on IV antibiotics for 21 days so i get a PICC line put in tomorrow and daily injections after that.

prostate infections are hard to treat, but testicular infections respond well to antibiotics. according to my urologist, if you don't improve markedly, the infection isn't going away. you need to fully treat and get rid of the infection or it will come back. that's what happened to me after the levoquin. i thought i was "good enough," for about a month after stopping and then the infection started to come back - with a vengeance - and this time it was already resistant to treatment.

i have never been as sick in my entire life as i have been in the last month fighting these infections. if the IV rocephin doesn't work then my options will continue to dwindle and with each failed antibiotic my chances of the infection becoming resistant to treatment increases.

don't avoid your urologist and hope your infection is handled just because you're afraid they might say it isn't. you don't want it to get worse.

hey how are you now? i have been told after a ultrasound that i have a resolving case of this...its been 5 weeks of discomfort and pain. iv been on doxycycline for 8 days and it doesnt seem to be working. i also have some frequent feeling in my urethra..almost like a burn. urine and blood tests were all clear. Now the GP is trying to refer to sexual health which does not make sense.

has anyone had any resolutions to their problems? or any definitive diagnosis?

Hey guys - 25 y/o and I think ive got epidimitis. Went to my primary and tried 2 different antibiotics. All it did was reduce the pain but its still constantly mild. Can't engage in sexual activity or even workout without getting irritated. Going to a urologist in a few weeks for an ultrasound but it looks like that will make no difference according to a lot of these replies.

I guess my question is - Did this ever get resolved ??? If so, how?? Its been 2 months and im losing hope

I've suffered from repeated infections the same as you and after going back and forth to the doctors to get antibiotics I took to trying to treat it for myself because they couldn't work out a cause even after various different examinations and ultrasound. Now this may well be useless to you because the cause could be any number of things and I'm not a doctor so please don't take this as medical advice for you but it definitely helped me and may help other men reading this too. Please consult a doctor before trying anything I'm saying.

The first thing that worked for me was, during urination block off the epididymis (tube) of the infected testicle with your finger. I did this for a week every time i urinated and symptoms dramatically improved.

The second thing I've found, for me, literally cured it i.e. has stopped the infection coming back for good. The idea I have is a stronger set of urinary muscles improves the health of the urinary system and can help reduce the likelihood of infections so during urination I would practice controlling the flow of urine. To do this i would repeatedly start stop, restrict and force urine out to work the muscles involved with urination. To start with the infection got a bit worse but over time (1 month) the infection is gone.

My guess is that my urinary muscles/prostate was weak or too relaxed and was allowing urine to leak past the prostate (a sort of 3 way valve) and travel down the testicle tube causing irritation and infection. After strengthening the muscles, symptoms improved. This, I'm told by a doctor would be an atypical cause if true. I should add that I found the point at which the pain came on most was during a reflex after finishing urinating. It's the reflex that occurs when you force the last of the urine out of your urinary system.

Now again i must stress I'm not a doctor and this type of infection can be caused by a number or serious health issues that need to be checked out by a doctor. This is just something that worked for me and is not to be considered medical advice and you should consult with a medical doctor before attempting anything I have outlined.

Furthermore on reddit I've found some similar stories and they have also come up with similar solutions to me. So I'm sure I'm not completely crazy.
