Pain from walking aids

Hi. I have broken 2 bones in my left ankle and am due to have surgery to inserts a couple of plates next week. At the moment I am wearing a very heavy immobilising cast to allow the swelling to go down. I keep the leg elevated all of the time except when I need to use the bathroom. I have a walking frame and crutches to get around on but find they cause a lot of pain in my hands resulting in bruises. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanking you in advance.

    Hi,

I wound up getting some inexpensive padded handle covers for the walker and added wheels to it so it was easier to maneuver. Crutches were just too risky for me.   After surgery I got a knee walker that works great for out side of the house and  borrowed a wheeled walker with a seat on it for moving around the house. I used it as a knee walker sometimes and as a wheelchair other ones.  The only thing can tell you is that it does get better. I’m almost 6 weeks post op and waiting to hear from the dr if I can start weight bearing.  It’s a long road but this forum is a great place to get answers and support. Hope your surgery and recovery go well
