pain getting on and off toilet

Hi all hippies

I am 9 days post op.

Over the last 2 days I have had groin pain getting on and off the toilet.

No pain when I walk.

Have changed my pain meds from paracetamol to something stronger to help with this.

I never had this with my other hip but understand that this one was more difficult alot more dislocating and breaking.

Has any one else had this problem.

I dread going to the toilet at the moment.

Thanks Hippies.

Jane

Hi Jane groin pain seems to be a common complaint among us hippies. Even at 10 weeks post op I get it. Do not think it is anything to worry about

    Take care xx

      Thanks Ann.

Going to do exercises rigorously today.

Hopefully will loosen it up a bit.

Know this one was bad as scar is from top of left buttock and all way down thigh.

    Good morning Jane,

I also felt groin spasm and for that reason I still have a raised toilet seat as "normal" seats can be very low, do you also put your left leg out in front of you before you sit down as this will reduce strain on your groin muscles.

You are only 9 days post-op so be kind to yourself and the muscles that are trying to heal. At about 10 days I also experienced what felt like electric shocks in my scar when I sat on the toilet, this is the nerves that were cut in the excision healing and nothing to worry about.

Best wishes for your recovery, Dot xx

      Hi Dot

Yes I do extend my leg the same as l did with the first one. Since right one was done I have always used raised toilet seat.

I think because right one was so easy I thought this one would be the same regardless silly me lol.

How many times a day did everyone do the exercises?

Hi Jane I found that using my sticks to help me up off the toilet helped a lot even though I had the toilet seat raiser in place .

Hi I have handrails to pull myself up but doesn't help when you know what is coming lol.

Apart from that I feel great.

Oh, the toilet is really something challenging, isn't it? and not too many people tell you about this before surgery ... even upon asking practical questions, like wiping (sorry) I got a blank stare ... oh well, doing fine at 10 weeks - still have the raised toilet seat though - I also had UTI right after I was discharged - the challenge there was to be on time !!! I didn't want to gross anybody out and apologies of I did  ... oh to be a male !!!  big hug and take care

After my TKR I have a frame that goes over my toilet it is a god send, I'm dreading sending it back as it is on loan, but hoping I won't need t much longer, the frame is really sturdy and helps raising yourself up and Down off the toilet, so takes the pressure off your hip or knee and saves a bit pain, x
