pain on one side of throat lpr/post nasal drip

Hi. About 1 1/2 years ago I had very similar symptoms. pain when I swallowed on the left side which involved the ear too. I could drink and Icy type treat drink and it would feel better. My GP treated me for ear infections 3 times antibiotics and said I had wax and flushed my ear. None of that helped. The throat thing continued so I went to an ENT and had the scope thing through my nose. He said everything looked fine just that side was a little bit irritated. He told me to take omeprazole for about 3 months and try not to think about it too much and come back if it wasnt better. Well I only took the medicine for a couple of weeks and decided to cut the acidic foods out instead. It did get better. It is back. Mostly just my left side throat whenever I swallow. Sometimes it feels like a strained muscular like pain. Sometimes it is higher or lower in my throat. I was going through a lot of stress last week before it started. I dont know if that is related or not. If I put a little pressure on that side of my neck when I swallow it wont hurt. It does not hurt to push on it. I know that my neck and shoulders are pretty tense probably from worrying that its something bad. Anybody else notice this with the reflux? I do sleep on my left side. should I be considering post nasal drip?

I get this left sided pain and my throat does hurt when I press, ears sore as well and had the antibiotic ear drops. Side of tongue inside feels sore but nothing there. GP said acid related but not sure am worried its more than that

Yes mine comes and goes and I also get a hoarse voice. GP said all related to silent reflux and he specialises in ENT still doesn't stop me thinking it may be something sinister. I have had it for a couple of years now and not lost weight, never smoked and no cough so none of the triggers are there so have to believe I am just suffering acid or I would become so anxious. It is scary I agree

60 years young this year. I can't find any relief from the sore throat, wish I could. There is nothing to see as not red so coming from further down although feels right at the back where you would have tonsillitis. I did have a virus earlier in the year which has made it worse. I only really struggle when eating bread as this usually gets stuck. Getting a bit fed up now.

is yours only on one side and do you feel it in your ear too sometimes? i bought some otc heartburn medicine last night and started it this morning. i figured i would give it a chance to work before i make a doctors appt. i havent been eating as much as usual bc i dont want to feel it happen. so, I am mostly eating soft foods. i think my anxiety is getting the best of me right now

Mine is on the left hand side of where your thyroid is located when I press it hurts and when I turn my head I can feel it sort of pulling and yes my ear is bad as well as side of tongue, but nothing to feel in the way of swelling. GP said no redness or lumps. I find it strange that is only left side so can't believe it is acid, but no idea what else it could be. Got a lot worse after tonsillitis in January and has been there ever since

yep. same here. left side. sometimes feel like back of tongue as well. i do sleep on my left side. pretty similar to what i had a couple of years ago. apparently all those nerves are connected. well, hopefully this med will kick in. please keep in touch and let me know how you do with this

Will do. Its actually comforting knowing that someone else has exactly the same, lots of us have variations but the tongue thing is a bit different, feels like an ulcer under tongue at back but there is nothing there and it goes at different points in the day and then returns so not constant like an ulcer. Take care

I just came on here to ask a question about a very similar issue. I have silent reflex and have had for a few years. currently on lansoprazole which keeps it mostly under control but not always completely. I have been having a bit of a flare up recently and I have a tense pressure type feeling down one side. I also have a sore feeling at the back of my tongue on one side, and my gum where my wisdom tooth would be (had it removed). I've had this a few times and everytime I have it, it feels a bit like a pulled muscle in my neck but not quite. I also get ear problems with it too. not exactly earache but my ears feel uncomfortable and blocked. I guess it must be reflux related but I do seem to find it's worse when I'm stressed. Either the stress is causing my reflux to get worse or the tension in my neck and back is contributing to it

that is a great description of how i am feeling right now. it feels like a tight or pulled muscle on the left side of my throat when i swallow. except if i am eating...then it is fine. dull ear pain with it. when i swallow the pain is usually up high in my throat but sometimes it is lower and i can feel it in my chest. I found some articles online about something called cricopharyngeal spasms and it sounds similar to what i experience as well. let me know what you think. i also notice that eating actually soothes it sometimes and it feels like the food is almost going in my ear. lol. i ordered something last night that i did not realize was going to be a little spicy and it did burn. Not long after i ate a frozen lemonade and it felt so good to my ear and throat. having said that i feel that is surely gerd related but i also have the neck tightness and lump feeling on the left side when i swallow. so i guess its all related?? my neck is always tense probably from stress.

I hate the sore tongue and ear part, I got my doctor to see if it was an ulcer but he couldn't see anything. My left ear is also sore and I give it a poke with a cotton bud which seems to help. Lots of us seem to have the same and it's good to know its not just me, I was wondering if it was throat cancer but from the replies here now think its just reflux.

have you ever felt it all the way into your chest? and yes so glad im not alone too

Yes all the time, GP said it is all related. The skin on my chest area and ribs burns and is really sore to touch, thought I had costochondritis but GP said it's acid. I don't even get that much acid in throat so don't really understand where it all comes from. I have a mixture of Gerd and silent reflux

That makes me feel better. I only notice it come up into my throat if i bend over after eating. When i went a couple of years ago about it, he said it was probably coming up at night.

Hi all... so thankful I stumbled upon this discussion! I have been scouring the internet again, looking for an answer or some validation for all of my symptoms... and now I don't feel so alone! Pretty much everything that has been said, describes what I am experiencing to a tee. Mine occur on the left side only as well, and I've been scaring myself crazy by overthinking! Your comments have given me some peace tonight.

      Hi There

I was so lucky to come across your discussion with young at heart regarding the LPR throat pain/itch. Exactly my symptoms as well. I see that was a while ago - do you still suffer from it or what was the eventual diagnosis did it all just go away following some PPI's & low acid dieting - please keep me posted. Going off my head during lockdown with the same symptoms. Stay safe & stay blessed

Hi, I'm feeling the same. When I touch my ribs in some points it hurts(only when touch). And I have silent reflex... Is it due to GERD?
