Get signed off you plonker Rodney. What's the point of going through the extra pain when you can rest ready for the op.

I got a new job in november (i was 19) by day 3 i was in so much pain (was a saturday) i bursy into tears because of the pain. My manajor told me to go home and think about whether or not i could return because there was nothing they could do to help my disabilitym i was at hospital on monday to sign on to thr waiting list. I asked the doctor what i should do about my job. I was told to leave immediatly as it would make my disability worse. So since november iv be on the sick my pain getting a lot worse and im unable to do simple things like housebwork due to the amount of pain it cauaes.

You need to think about your health first.

I would tell him you'll see him in 3 months or so....Relax the next few days, the surgery is serious and you need to feel well.

Well I took early retirement and filed for disability and Medicare. My wife suggested it but I didn't want to quit working at 55 years old as I only needed 6 more years to make it to full retirement. I was a crane operator for 40 odd years but only joined the Operating Engineers Union 14 years ago, I gave up a bunch of money in potential wages and pension but I just could not climb tower cranes or jump on or off crawler cranes any longer with my hip. I stood to dislocate my hip if I mis-stepped on ladders and steps.

So I did that and then waited 2 years for my Medicare to start, then put off having hip replacement surgery for another 6 months for various dumb reasons.

Now I'm like you, I can't do anything I should be doing. Can't shovel snow, can't now the grass, can't teach, train or play with dogs. If I were you, I'd take the time off, get the surgery over with and heal up as quickly as you can so you can get back to doing the things you need and want too. Maybe you could apply for temporary disability? When I did I thought it would either be denied or take years to get but I was approved and got money in about six months. Hip degeneration is considered a very serious disability (if that's what you have too?) and one which we may never get completely over.

So take the time and "get er done"!

    Good luck!

Oh you poor chap.  I agree with your wife for you to be signed off.  Wednesday will be the start of your new pain free life.  It is more difficult if your income is just the ordinary sick pay..would you be entitled to any other benefits?

I will look with interest for your name to see how you progress once your op is done on Wednesday.  i am asuming your GP can't prescribe stronger pain relief??

no additional benefits as my wife works full time.we have saved enough money to see us through the 12 week recovery so with normal sick pay we will be ok.she just wants her husband back as our social life is non existent.so looking forward to being painfree.i have arthritis in my spine as well so will be great to rid one of the constant pains.

Your wife sounds very supportive and you need that emotionally as well as practically.  My husband sadly dies and I didn't half curse him that he had left me to cope on my own..but by Jove it isn't as bad as I thought and the pain you are experiencing will be gone..a new pain from the op but very bareable as you know it will stop.

very very best wishes to you for Wednesday.

If it was me, having constant excrutiating pain?

I'd get my GP to sign me off until the operation, when the surgeon should sign you off for 3 months.
