I know exactly how you feel! I was stubborn and have a very active job in the NHS. I worked full time shifts until the week before my op when I finally gave in. Now 9 weeks post op I can't believe how much pain I was in and how badly I walked. I had no prior sickness absence and won't be any better thought of for struggling through. My hip was in such a state It was difficult to dislocate and I needed a bone graft to rebuild it. Fortunately I still get most of my salary. Put yourself and your health first because in the end thats all that really matters. Good luck with your op.

Michael - been there done that, pain issue before surgery. YES sign off, your wife sounds the sensible one in your home, DO IT, I wouldn't be on her bad side, you are going to need her after the surgery for a few days, until you get back on your feet so to speak.

And good wishes for your surgery on Wednesday, all will be well I'm sure.

Michael. Take off! I waited too long to get my second hip operated on and I think I did some damage to my knee.. we compensate in the way we walk with our bad hips and instead of immediately getting it done I waited and now three weeks post op my knee is still hurting I'm just hoping I didn't do too much damage to it. Good luck on your surgery and relax!

    Dear Michael,

Congratulations on surrendering to your first big hurdle , that is giving up some of your control - It is so tough ... You just want to go on and do it until ???? when?

If not, you think others might think you are a whimp or weak -

I thought that way and to me, this THR business was/is very confrontational (I had 2 within 6 months - )

I read that you made the decision to take time off until Wednesday when you have your surgery ..good decision albeit not an easy one -

No medication will help right now-

good luck Michael, it is going to be alright .. and come back here any time -

    no judgements,just understanding and support

    big warm hug

    renee

    Morning Michael

If you are in the UK, you can self-certify for upto 7 days. My operation was on a Thursday, I took several days annual leave before the operation and was signed off (by the GP) 4 days after the operation

You really do owe it to yourself to minimise the risks you are exposing yourself to between now and Wednesday.

That said, I think I am leaning on an open door (don't try this at home, kids lol).

Welcome to the forum where all sorts of love and support is available - including harsh love.

    Michael
