Pain under ribs on right hand side

Posted , 115 users are following.

Hi, for 5 months now I have been experiencing a stitch like pain under my ribs on the right hand side. I had my gall bladder scanned, all was ok. Had liver function test, all ok. Kidneys scanned - all ok. Test for ulcer - all ok. The pain is intermittent.

Not sure if it is connected, but five months a go I stopped taking sugar in tea and switched to sweeteners (aspartame). I got through 100 tablets in two weeks. My stomach ballooned with gas and I belched a lot. The pain appears to have come on shortly after this. Whether the sweeteners had anything to do with it, I don't know. I am male, 40 years old, reasonably fit and a non smoker.

Thanks.

I want to tell everyone who posted their Information on their problem. I am also experiecing the same Problem. From Looking at the reply from other s I came to the Conclusion that the problem comes from having a Fatty Liver. This is turn Creates problem with your Gallbladder which evidently or most likely does not have any Stones. I have done Ultra sounds on my Gallbladder, Liver, Keydneys, and even an Endocospie From the Stomach and Rectum and the Results was everything is Ok except your Liver is a little fatty. I have been given Omeprazol 20mg to relieve the pain  and the result it took away the pain but it comes back.

I dont take Omeprazol anymore cause it can also damage more my liver.

The Conclusion for me will be that I need to eat more healthy and see If I can buy something that will help my liver Reabilitate. I heard in this thread Milk Thistle should help me with my liver get bette so I will defenetly try it out. Also I will start not eating to much food that is fatty and avoid sugar at most. Ofcourse I dont Drink Alchohol anymore because I have noticed this will make me more pain.

So thank you on Everyone who posted here their Problem because I think my Fatty Liver must be the Problem. Like someone else said there is no Pills for the Liver and The Liver does Regenerate but It wont if I Keep on exposing it to Alchohol, Sugar, Fatty Foods, and Too Much Medicine.

I want to Advice everyone that I am not a Doctor. I am only explaining my Problem. I have seen alot of Doctors cause of this Problem and One thing that I was Told from all of them is to try to Reduce my weight and The Fatty Liver.

I hope you find Relieve in your Problem and Remember not everyone is the Same and you should consult a Doctor or tell him what your suspicion ist to see what he says. I wish you all get better Soon.

Hi again all , update on the stitch like feeling under my lower right rib ! I have been on Milk Thistle now for approx 2 1/2 to 3 weeks and the irritation is getting less , I have also stopped taking sugar in my tea which used to be 2 teaspoons and an average of 8/10 cups a day , so quite a significant drop in sugar intake also, just so happy that the irritaion is getting less as it was becoming worrying

Mt daughter is 11 and 3 weeks ago was crippled by a stabbing burning pain at the bottom of her ribcage rightdeep in the centre and slightly to the side.  The pain does move sometimes to her back or down by her sides.. She has been checked at 5 doctors appointm ents and Accident and Emergency Hospital too over the course of this 3 weeks. SHe has been sleeping all the hours of the day and night, waking up when I want her to eat a little.- Its dreadful to witness as a mother..she cries all day, is constantly in pain, shortness of breath, the paracetamol have helped a little, she is worse after eating though without a doubt,  she feels weak obviously and feels cold when she is burning up,  she has lost so much weight also.  This happened in July for one week and the hospital said she had an infection of the base of her oesophagus which has similar symptoms to Appendicitis,.  This flare up I have been told is possible stomach migraine.  But this should only last 3 days maximum.  Stopped wheat (bread) and cooking small meals from scratch, stopped her having tea or any type of sugary drinks. The pain is throbbing now, not so acute. Wish someone could pinpoint this - there must be a reason...blocked gallbladdder pipe maybe?  just like when we pass kidney stones like grains of sand?  (Aspartame is a chemical that was originally made to help for pain relief for stomach ulcers when they discovered its sweetness could be used as sugar replacement.  It is so dangerous!  Stevia is a natural plant sweetnener or use locally sourced or manuka honey),

I have just ordered probiotics for my daughter I was told this will help and have been told to ingest aloe vera and turmuric also..  Milk thistle isn't one I'd heard of I will look into this.xx

Has she had an ultrasound?????  If not it would be prudent to get one asap. To be very honest this sounds like an infection as per the hospital. The 'throbbing' and high temp are give aways.  What caused the infection or ongoing infections is the issue here.  Blocked bile duct, even a small ulcer etc.  Was she given antibiotics?? I wound'nt look too deep into food etc, swopping her diet could even makes thing worse.  Has she been sick or passed blood in her poo??   Issues with the stomach dont always come with a 100% lable of its this or that.  Very frustartion but hang on in there and don't panic, if shes eating even a little and passing normal stools and not being sick this will pass.  Watch her temp, the real danger here could be Septicemia if the infection is still present.  Please don't mess about if her temp goes up and shes lethargic call 999.

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence.  I appreciate your comments guidance and concern. No she has not so much as been offered a scan or bloods.  She was so scared of needles since this stomach pain has begun she has been pleading for blood tests just to find out what this is.  She is not sick but constantly has felt sick throughout. She has salt taste in her mouth she can't stand it.  And can hardly breathe, extreme fatigure.... In July when she had this pain for the very first time we ended up in hospital thinking appendicitis, but it was an infection of the base of her oesophagus, lasted 3 or 4 days thats all and disappeared as quickly as it arrived.....  Since she was old enough to eat she has always had problems swallowing food and it sticking.but I huess its something one get used to because she has never complained.  When she drinks she has to tilt her head back noticeably so and t when she's had a drink of water- barely a sip has gone from the glass and yet her throat was so loud glugging it told us she just drunk a pint!! I do hope you get your own pain and corrective surgery asap.

Her temp was 39C in hospital friday and they gave her lots of paracetal to get it down.  They also told us that the blood tests were things to have sorted at the GP not in A and E x

This is not acceptable period, finding the reason for the high temp is of great importance.  I would go to the Doctors and demand full bloods and ultrasound.  For an A&E department to not take bloods or look deeper into a repeated high temp/infections is somewhat concerning.  Please phone the department Manager and voice your concerns, I would never say anything to worry you at this time but this is why so many patients are getting septo.  Treat the cause and not the symptoms, unbelievable.  What part of the uk are you in??? If you have another A&E within 30 miles go there next time. Really not enough  at all.  It's difficult and I hate to say it but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. And she wants referring anyway to ENT or the young persons department anyway for the ongoing swallowing problem.  Can't believe this lack refering!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, its about time, if you have a car and have that feeling that parents get that something is really wrong go to Bristol Uni Hospital, I think its St Michaels, things change so fast so just ensure the A&E is still open and go first thing in the morning and take a stay over bag for her. If your Daughter is not drinking/unable to drink go now period. This may seem extreme but its now obvious that something is very wrong and requires IMMEDIATE investigation and treatment. I'm the last person to ever go overboard and recommend the course of action but I feel in these circumstances its valid. Oh, is her stomach painful when pressed with your 4 fingers anywhere?? You may have to press quite hard but be very careful at the same time, if you have any doubts about doing this don't. Hows her temp and eyes, are they clear and bright with the white part clearly showing or is there any darkening to the sclera 'white' part??

I had the exact same pain. Debilitating pain under my right rib where my gall bladder is.  When I went to the ER they ran all the tests and all my organs looked good. The pain started 48 hours after I got my IUD. I stayed in bed on pain pills for 3 weeks with no answers. None of the docters thought my IUD could be the culpret because your gall bladder area is not connected to female organs.  I got the IUD removed and 48 hours later I feel 100% better with ZERO pain!
