Painful Burning Sensation In Urethra - No Uti Or Std - Female
Posted , 141 users are following.
I am a 21 year old female in the UK, and I have been suffering with a painful burning sensation which I believe to be coming from my urethra since September 2014. The pain comes and goes throughout the day, and it will be at its most intense after having urinated, and after sex. At its worst I struggle to walk. The need to urinate has increased but there is no difficulty in going, though I do now most often have two streams when urinating which sometimes will stop and start. On multiple occasions there has also been thick blood in my urine too.
No UTIs have ever shown up on the paper dip test at my local GPs, though I have had UTIs in the past. I have tested negative to all STDs. I have had ultrasound scans which have shown nothing abnormal. I have had numerous internal examinations by doctors and one by a Gynaecologist, all have said everything looks normal and healthy.
My GP has had me try at least 6 different types of antibiotics but none have had any effect on me, except for Cefalexin which I took once a day for 28 days, the pain felt lifted and sex was possible again, but 3-4 days after having finished my course I was back to how I was before them.
I drink plenty of fluids (including cranberry juice) and eat healthy, I don't drink alcohol, smoke, or take drugs. All pain killers have very little effect on the pain, only a hot water bottle sat between my thighs brings any relief. Taking cranberry capsules, and/or cystitis relief sachets has had no effect.
I am about ready to give up on my local GP, its doctors and the NHS, no matter how many appointments I make and attend no progress is ever made, no tests are ever taken and my request to be referred to a Urologist has been repeatedly turned down, I am only ever told to drink more water and to try a new antibiotic, which I pay for each time, no one seems willing to search and to find out what is causing the pain. Affording to go private is a problem for me though, and so I just hope there is someone out there who can relate to me and give me guidance/knowledge on what to do.
This pain is now negatively affecting all aspects of my life.

It is so crazy that so many females deal with this, and no Doctors, Urologist, or Gynecologist can figure it out! I too have had UTI like symptoms. I'm going on 4 yrs! At first they said it was a uti, and then bacteria or yeast, and now nothing. Funny to me since I feel more and more irritated. I've had a urodynamics test, a cystoscopy, a bladder instillation, and 2 cyst and a fallopian tube removed. Nothing showed up in the test and nothing made me feel any better. I keep being told it's probably cystitis, but if that's the case wouldn't the cystoscopy and bladder instillation have helped? Nevertheless, I know orange juice and tomatoes really irritate me so I try to stay away from them. I have also tried cutting out chocolate and caffeine and only drinking water, but I notice no difference with them. Sometimes symptoms actually seem better when I have a frappe or a coke. My bladder doesn't really feel full, but I feel so irritated that I go the the bathroom and least every hr, except at night, I can sleep 6 hrs without getting up. Which reminds me I also can't sleep on either side. That will make me feel extremely irritated! Sorry I can't help you. I have so many Dr. bills now I have pretty much just given up.

Hello,
I have been expiercing all of these symptoms for nearly two years. I'm writing in hopes someone can reach out, listen to my story and help/offer guidance right now.
I am now 21, this started when I was 19. I had came into contact with the STD Chlamydia however wasn't treated for it 3-4 afters coming into contact. Once treated, it came back and I was treated again and since treatment a year ago, I've never had another STD. But since day one of coming into contact, I've had painful urination. It's burning sensation where I rate the pain 10/10. I've been on multiple antibiotics, still the pain is present. It will come and go, like I call them "flare ups" and once a month it will get pain rated 20/10. I can't leave my bathroom. I won't have regular pees, just two second burning droplets. I have fevers, chills, abdominal pain, and now I'm starting to have bloody stools and I had found out I have an e.coli infection (may or may not be related). They won't refer me to an urologist however have prescribed Hydrocodone once and that seems to help (obviously). I had to leave college, leave my job, and became homeless over this. I have also had to result to buying pain killers like Percacets/Hydrocodone off the streets, which I'm not proud of. But my life is just falling apart and I have become so hopeless. Yet trying to remain hopeful. Which these posts made me feel hope that I'm not alone. Please offer suggestions whether it's something to ease the pain or things to tell my doctor.
Things I've tried myself:
OTC pain killers, don't help. Nor do any bladder pain pills. I drink plenty of water, I don't drink alcohol or do any drugs.
Please help, thank you.

Kayson Im so sorry for you. I too have the same issues but maybe not as serious as yours but for me it was for about a year and a half. I found out Im gluten intolerant. You should google that in connection with uti symptoms bc you'd be amazed what you'd find out. Also I take now brand d-mannose pills daily to keep ecoli out of my bladder. Google that too. I take swanson brand pumpkin seed oil pills for bladder health. Google it also. If you haven't heard of interstitial cystitis google that as well. I hope this helps you and you get some relief. Keep us updated as to how you are doing!

I Uber been experiencing the same issues. Here is what I have found: my lubrication has effected me, my detergents/fabric softener, even maxi pads do (anything that touches that area), my diet is a large trigger! Certain foods cause bladders spasms! Weirdest thing I ever heard! But it’s true! I love Lindt chocolates, but I can’t eat them anymore because it causes bladder spasms! I asked my urologist about it and he though I was crazy. McDonald’s frozen frappe (not the hot ones). There is an additive in the frozen ones that nothing but benedry will slightly help. A lot of sugar can also trigger it. I am finding more things everyday that I can’t consume. Even certain vitamins/dietary supplements! Look up bladder spasms and triggers, watch your diet, and make a journal! This will help you out more than you ever know! I would love to hear back from you to see if this works! I tried the uristat and it didn’t phase mine. When I tried benedryl and it helped, I figured it was an “allergic reaction” to something I ate or drank. Good luck

This came to a major shock / confusion towards what actually caused my pain. I tried thinking of anything I did different, and it came to me. IT WAS MY UNDERWEAR. ever since I started dating my boyfriend, I always wore nylon underwear (big mistake). I honestly NEVER thought nylon would cause as much pain as it did. So far i’ve not had any burning what so ever! so i urge anyone who has similar symptoms, buy new underwear! (preferably cotton) and see if it helps. don’t be doubtful - it’s worth a shot.

Okay, I know this is going to sound disgusting-but I'm being completely serious and I hope it helps at least one person out there. For over three weeks I had been in excruciating pain in my bladder and burning in my urethra. Felt the urge to urinate constantly. Just sheer hell. Went through two rounds of antibiotics with no results. I was convinced I had interstitial cystitis and would be in pain the rest of my life. Around 2:00 am one night (morning) I'm on the computer searching for anything to give me some hope and I found it. Someone mentioned that they slept with his/her dog and discovered the intense pain in their bladder was due to his hair getting into his/her belly button. Once they started pulling the hair out, they got immediate relief. I literally jump up with a flashlight and tweezers and sure enough I could see something fuzzy. Now, I am not a dirty person, bathe daily, wash sheets three times a week (because YES my dog sleeps with me) but I spent 10-15 minutes pulling dog hair out of my belly button (one little clump of it) and I too had almost immediate relief. I have a small "innie" and I never suspected it was happening. Anyway, I know it's not the cause of most of you reading this, but do check it out. Even if you don't have a dog and cat, it could be lint or who knows what. Hope this helps someone

I have the same issue when I am stressed and when it is that time of the month. I have seen several Urologists and they can't figure out what is going on. I stop going because it was such a painful process with being scoped that I just rather deal with the pain.
