hi rion, i think that you sadly have your panic attacks back. you need to find out why you're having them and why they've started up again. you need some advice anyway.

This happens to a lot of people who have IBS and its the vagus nerve being stimulated by the emptying of the colon. You can get sweaty and shaky and your blood pressure can drop. In extreme instances you can pass out.

yes yes and yes!
Before I even know I need a bowel movement I get this really odd feeling in my body, I start to feel nervous, then I realize a need a bm, by this time I'm sweating, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, then once I'm finished after about 15 mins everything settles down.
If you put in google "healthunlocked panic attacks and other symptoms before a bowel movement" you will see a whole thread with people mentioning this.

thank u so much for your response! have u figured out why this happens? Will this get better? is there a medicine to take? which specialist should i consult? gastro doctor?

Hi!
Unfortunately I have no answers yet, I'm being investigated by gastro doctor, I have been to various doctors and not one has ever heard of this.
Things that have been suggested to me: bacteria letting out toxins, bowel movement putting pressure on vagus nerve, dumping syndrome.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Did you look at that post I mentioned? there are some suggestions there

OK i will look it up, friend and I really appreciate your comments. im having a second thought that it's probably nothing and we simply might have associated fear/panic with bm which is why it happens to us. do u have a history of panic attacks as well?

I actually do have a history of anxiety and I sometimes have also thought it might be anxiety, but it's so strange because I can be happy at work doing something and BAM! I get the weird head rush and sinking feeling in body and it all starts, it's so weird and horrible.

that happens to me to, i have been cleared by my cardio not too long ago and i really hope there's really nothing wrong with my heart, it makes me think im gonna die whenever im in a panic mode with an increase heartrate, its really annoying and i just wanna get over this, do u have an fb, or email where we can exhange some thoughts so we can figure this out.. sometimes i also get an increase heart rate or adrenaline rush several mins after eating meal

hi friend, I have read through the forum that u shared and I appreciate it. knowing that were not alone and knowing that anxiety is our common denominator among us all. its a good start to figure this out, May i ask if you have already been checked by your cardio to rule things out? does it happen to u everytime u need a bm? or. just random times? how long have u been experiencing this? do u take any medication for it?

Hi Rion,
Actually this just happened to.me about 30 mins ago, I hate it sooo much. I was ok and I got this dizzy rush in my head followed by needing a bm, while pooping I felt shortness of breath and when I got up from the loo my heart started thumping and had bad tachycardia and sweating. Having some sugar and lying down seems to help.
To answer your questions, it started around 3 years ago.
Yes, I have been checked by my cardio and they are not 100% sure but they think my tachicardia is sinus rythm so they gave me bisoprolol. This has helped in that I get tachy less often and when I do it stays at aeound 120-125 bpm, it doesn't go up like it used to to 165 bpm. So basically cardio doc isn't concerned. Been to neurologists, no idea as to what might cause it. Surgeon, no idea. About 4 or 5 GP's, no idea but suggested vahus nerve, dumping syndrome, neurological issues...Gyneacologist no idea. Gastro doc, no idea but testing at the moment.
I'm now taking Betaine because a naturopathic doc thinks it's low acid in my stomach that might have caused SIBO, so I'll be tested for that this week and if it's positive I'll go on a special diet.
As you can see I have done and I'm doing a lot because it's really limiting my life so I need a solution.
It's not every single time but most of the times I go, say around 8 out of 10 times I go.
And what about you? How long have you had it? Every time? Any thoughts or intuition of what it might be?

Hi Salsica,
I completely understand how annoying and frustrating it is, may i know if u also had a 2d echo done? i had mine which was normal and my cardio does not want me to do it again as hes not concerned either. mine does not happen every single time but i mostly have it when i anxiously anticipate it and when im constipated so eating high fibre foods amd avoiding fried/constipating foods help me a lot.
i also notice that it happens to me several minutes after eating meal.. does it happen to you? my second thought is that it could be. just anxiety and taking an anxiety med could make it disappear but im not quite sure.

hi guys, just a thought but it could be that something in your small or large intestine is sending some signal to your brain that you are going to be sick? could that explain your feeling of adrenaline and panic? perhaps a parasite ? anything off in your digestion can cause feelings of sickness/nausea/panic. have you had colonoscopies?

Hi Anne
Thanks for your reply. I had a colonoscopy about 3 or maybe 4 years ago, all ok. And I very rarely have a sick feeling. I've had a check for parasites even though it was only the common ones, so maybe I could ask if they would look for more.

Yes, I've had echo, MRI's...
In my case it has nothing to do with wether I'm anxious or not. What I have noticed is that it has coincided with rather sticky poop with a lot of wiping (sorry for TMI) so I now feel that due to the stickiness it might be difficult for my system to push it through.

hi anne, thanks for your comment, yes i had a colonoscopy recently and all is clear.. but i have not had my stool checked for parasites.. sometimes several minutes after heavy meals i get increased heart rate and urge to poop.. have you ever experienced that? could that be ibs? i have never been diagnosed with ibs.

Hi Salsica,
Yeah maybe it tends to happen when our system find it difficult to push it through so maybe try high fiber foods and more water to see if that helps for u bc it does for me. may i also know if u only get tachychardia when/before a bm?
sasical72 rion95201

In general I only get the tachy before/during or after bm, occasionally I have had them after eating or when showering, and today I had them quite bad and with pain in the back, just behind the heart while walking, so now I'm a bit afraid of it maybe being angina.

Hi Sasical,
I hope ur doing well, have u made any progress? Mine has been non existent for the past few days but i know it may come back anytime. what helped me was.. when i feel the urge to have a bm.. i tried not to panic over the panic symptoms that i may get and the panic symptoms did not come at all.. i just tried to focus on my bm instead of focusing on my heart rate and it really worked.. i have a feeling that anxiety has a lot to do with it, i notice that i easily panic over things.. sometimes when my boss calls me .. or when im about to talk in a conference call, it immediately gives me panic symptoms like increased heart rate and shortness of breath like your sinking.. does that happen to u as well? maybe we just happen to be panicky persons which is why this happens?

Hi Rion
Hope you're doing ok. No progress yet, I went fir Sibo testing last Thursday but won't have my results until I see gastro doc.
I used to be like that, lots of things would make me nervous, as I have got older that has got much better and now I only seem to get it when pooping, maybe I've concentrated all the nervousness into one action haha.
But I know there is something physical going on because I feel really off before even knowing I need to poop.

Hi sasical,
im doing well my friend, mine has gone away, i tried to train my mind to focus on my bm instead of focusing on my heartbeat and tachy does not occur.. i think before.. i panic a lot over getting a fast heartrate which in return gives me tachy, but if i dont worry about fast heartrate. my heartrate is calm.. did u eat a huge meal before getting that weird symptoms? maybe thatvpanic sensation or fast heartrate is the one that gives us the urge to poop.. bc sometimes when i feel panicky. i also feel like pooping..i also have a huge feeling that it could be related to food sensitivity. are u allergic to something that might give u a tachy? do u eat pasta or cheese a lot? may i know if u also have a history of pvc/ectopic heartbeats before, i had them before but thank goodness theyre gone.

Hi Rion
That's great news! I'm happy for you.
I don't know if I'm sensitive to any food. I'm now trying exclusion diets. One thing I have definitely noticed is that mine is related to if my poop is sticky, so who knows.
I've tried with the mind over matter thing with no luck.
So I will just continue trying to find a solution.

Hi there,
No answers unfortunately. How about you? how long have you had this? any ideas from doctors or your own intuition?
