Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

I was diagnosed with PAF late into 2011 and episodes came and went and never really caused me too much discomfort. However at the time I was prescribed Flecainide and Warfarin by cardiac specialist. I've continued with this medication since then but haven't experienced an AF episode since Jan 2013 - is it the drugs or am I over it?

I'm 'happy' taking the Warfarin (I'm 63 and reducing stroke risk is good!) but wonder what, if any, are the long term implications of taking Flecainide. I've asked for medical opinion and I'm told that its not clear why the AF episodes stopped so 'keep taking the tablets'.

Any similar cases out there?

Thanks, Hugh that is very helpful. Just started Flecainide and come off Beta blocker, but not anything else at present apart from the daily aspirin.

    Hi Malcolm.

I take 100mg morning and night, but that may be different for others. It's just as important to stay away from caffeine and alcohol.

Hi Malcom. I am not an expert on the matter but i know someone who experienced the same episodes for about 6 months. From what i know he took a medical opinion from one of these online medical opinion sites. The site is ' yourdoctors.online ' . I would suggest giving it a go since all the doctors on the portal are certified MDs from US and Canada. I hope this was of some help and that you find a solution to your problem soon. Good luck!

I have been on atenolol and sotalol for my af but lately episodes have been increasing in duration last one lasted 4 days. Saw a different cardiologist and he's taken me off the sotalol and put me on flecainide. I start tomorrow after two days of not taking the sotalol will be interesting to see if it helps: have you had bad side affects with it?

I have been taking flecainide 100 mg twice a day along with xarelto for 18 years. Have not had any episodes of a-fib during the entire time. Great drug in my estimation. Before that I was having at least one episode requiring cardio version every week.

I have been taking flecainide 100 mg twice a day along with a blood thinnerĀ for 18 years. Before that I was having an event at least once a week that required cardio version. Since taking flecainide, I have not had any events. Good stuff!

I've had PAF for about 12 years (blimey is it that long?) never had it before taking bp tablets first Ramipril then Candesartan with an episode weekly. Now on Bisoprolol with episode monthly for about 24-30 hours. Any side-effects with flecainide?

Had a blip around January but stopped taking Bisoprolol and Lercanidipine.  Now take Diltiazem (for BP) with Flecainide and have been episode free since.  No side effects with Flecainide (that I'm aware of!)
