Partial knee replacement progress.

I had a PKR 4 weeks ago but have no one to compare my progress with. I have a good bend in the knee but am struggling with straightening it. My back has also become painful, possibly after two years of walking with a limp and my leg becoming slightly malformed. Very low mood doesn't seem to be improving either, very tearful, not like me at all. I abandoned the white socks yesterday despite being advised to wear them for six weeks, is this wise? I am 67 and otherwise fit apart from restless leg syndrome. I have no family for support.

5 weeks in my PKR. Left my socks at the hospital, given myself daily injections for DVT.protection for 14 days. Can easily get completely straight ,  not had a measurement of my bend as yet, but it's not bad in my opinion. I have a hot tub and do all my exercise in there,  it's great although it's hard. I try and work on gaining strength in the muscles, rather than just bending the knee. It's helped enormously and stairs both up and down is back to normal style . Been Driving since week 3  and take no pain relief  since week 3

Think the partial replacement seems to be less traumatic than the full. I am now 12 weeks post op. and I too was driving at three weeks and had a 140 degree bend at 7 weeks. Stairs as normal. Half of knee still numb and the whole thing is tender to the touch, the scar still a vivid purple line but I can walk  without pain and without a limp and that is such a bonus!. Just had paracetamol after hospital as opiates make me nauseous. Am really pleased with the whole outcome. You seem to be on the same track as me, aren't we lucky. Good luck with your continued recovery.

Hi, how are you now, a few weeks on?

my scar numbness is almost gone now at  6 wweks, and not tender to the touch, I no longer use the elasticated tubular bandage at night.

joined an aquarobic class, and gym  work 3 times a week.

Planning a summer of cycling Sportives, and a trip to the US in April.

feeling so much better, and not emotional any more.

Hi. I am fine thanks. 14 weeks now and am reaping the benefits of the op..I can run upstairs or go up two at a time, something I hadn't done for two years! I now walk faster than my daughter who is 41 and am back to ,all normal activities except for kneeling. I can kneel on a cushion but am not comfortable kneeling on a hard floor. The knee is still numb on one side and the scar is still very visible but am not bothered about either of those things. The emotions stabilised after about 7 weeks. It's so good to be back to feeling fit and like you am looking forward to lots of activities next year. Good innit!
