I found this site many years ago and I looked into it and really liked it for the following reasons:

    started by two GPs who came from Tyneside;

    well administrated

    factual

    no 'crackpot therios allowed

willing to amalgamte two different threads.......PMR and GCA (they were separate

not many postings at the time

    then it increased expotentially

Many updates to site over the years - still stuck with it and got used to it.

This time, I am having to consider using it less as I really cannot hack this glaring white background (which does not occure on any other website I use.

Today I am sad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,18 notifications, some of them from new people looking for help.

I have been on it for ten minutes, my eyes can take it no longer.

I have to say - I can really understand where you are coming from - this morning I was almost reduced to tears because it was taking me so long to do anything and having to watch the "loud" white and colours was so tiring. I'm much younger than you, I thought I had good eyesight even though I wear glasses for everything, always have done, but this may defeat me.

Not sure what device you are using, Lodger, but you can probably dim the screen brightness somewhat.  It would be better if the white border, which on the computer I'm currently using is about a third of the space on the screen, were in a pastel, blue if they must although green really is the most restful for for eyes.

Hello to everyone on this thread. We've responded to your feedback and released an update which we hope you'll like.

    In the latest update we've;

    * removed the colours on the report and reply buttons

    * Reduced the margins on mobile

    * Taken off the blue line from the top level of posts and replies and reduced the thickness of the other

    * Fixed the text wrapping bug on the post form on some mobile platforms

    * Made the usernames bigger

    * Made the flashing effect when creating a new post more pleasant

We hope that this update will alleviate some of the more pressing concerns you had about the new design and make using the forums a more pleasant experience.

I think I must have been writing as you were posting.  I like this now.

Thank you - that is a very good start. Not sure I'd describe the flashing effect when creating a new post as "more pleasant" - rather "less aggressive". Being picky - please could you calm the colour down a tad?

It has just occurred to me to ask -  are the pages now longer? When scrolling down a long discussion it seems to take forever -

That is a good start .................so thank you.

Now can you please do something about that glaring white.

Yes, I have been onto my IT Guru and as I use Firefox, he has told me to try Firelux. I now have to go figure it out and see what difference it makes to this and other sites I use.

I will have to see if it can be worked for only this site.

The 'flashing' effect will be better because many people suffer from Epilepsy or Functional Seizures, both of which can be triggered by flashing, at certain frequencies.

I am unable to attend parties unless they have another spare room - it makes me feel anti-social, however it is my health conditions. When you have to take more than 50+ medications a day, have injections every 10 weeks and cannot face LED lights at parties because they trigger massive nose bleeds, which in turn triggers Epilepsy Seizures.

You can understand numerous websites can trigger certain conditions, or make others worse - I tend to avoid such websites.

The removal of the buttons looks much better - thanks for those changes.

I did it and installed Firelux and it makes it much easier on this site.

I am now typing on a pale cream background.............wow............

Those Mozilla people need a medal from me.

LINE or. WORD WRAP working on both cellphone and tablet, thank you. Still liked the old colors better, but can live with these. Thanks

Ooh!!  Is it my imagination, or is the white less white?  And the red & bright blue have been toned down.

Thank you!  I can live with this.

Yep, getting rid of the boxes was an excellent start.confusedI also wonder how much control you have over the advertising?  Before I installed adblock again I counted twelve ads on one thread.  TWELVE!  And many were obviously targeted at me.  After adbock only four.  I hadn't planned to put adblock on this borrowed computer, but I couldn't stand it.eek

The number of adverts and trackers on the pages is ridiculous. I personally block all - I don't like leaving my 'digital-footprint' behind.

Much better layout though! Thanks... Now, just the edit feature would be great! and the white, may be changed to something darker.

Thanks for fixing the wrapping problem for the cellphone. I will check the tablet when I get home. Working fine on the phone. I never have seen the other stuff people complaining about and still don't.

    Thanks again!

On the other hand, it looked like you were writing poetry, Michdonn!

Poetry possibly - but it was hellish to read!!!!!!

Sorry about that EileenH, it was not fun either. But I am not sure how it is on a computer, have not tried, probably won't! 🙂 Did like the old colors better or colours!

Not your place to apologise Mich - I find it appalling that, like too many companies these days, the trials were done on the unsuspecting client. "This is a great idea" (from someone who doesn't use it) "so let's role it out and let others do the refinements..."

Never thought of that...............but this pale cream background which I  now have, free of charge, courtsey of Mozilla Firefox, has made a big difference.

BTW have a good day on your special.............winkwink

How true EileenH, have to get it out the door, at one point I was part of the problem, quarterly profits, you know! 🙂

    • Posted

Yes - unfortunately it doesn't work quite the same in the healthcare sector - even here...

EileenH, I personally have no idea what should happen in the health industry. I do know that what we have here in the states is badly broken. When I was with Siemens what they had in Germany seemed to work, but I was not in the system so really could not tell. What is happening here has been bad for a very long time and getting worse. People not being able to pay medical bills is the major cause of bankruptcies. It is insane!

I can't understand why people demand universal healthcare, single payer system. Every poll indicated that it is the most popular option in US. The problem is that elected representatives don't care, because they are responding to lobbying and money funneled their way.  However, now that Obamacare repeal and replace failed, maybe they will try to fix it instead. There are several proposals that would let people to buy in into Medicare at 55 or even at 50.  That would help a lot, because as you get older, insurance becomes very expensive.

Here in japan they  have single payer.  Medical is so cheap, compared to US, that I usually don't check how much it is when paying with credit card...

nick67069, things are not going to change here for the foreseeable future. The politicians are in the pockets of big business. Our system is broken and has long as money is in control it does matter what the majority of the people want.

I understand a system in which healthcare is refused to people who cannot pay. But I consider it immoral. Its morally bankrupt.

Its not just financial bankruptcy its human suffering, and probably early death.

Hopefully there's more to life than business models and money.

julian, I think that depends where you live. Here in the states if you have no money go to the hospital, it has to provide you service. Bankruptcy occurs when you have a house, car and no more money to pay medical bills. Obamacare did reduce bankruptcies, but did create other problems.
