Paxil side effects

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have been taking Paxil since August 11 and when my Dr raised it to 15mg from 10mg i started having severe symptoms of being tired feeling like i am going to pass out, headache, and feeling flu like symptoms.

I went back down to 10mg yesterday and i am still feeling sick flu like symptoms all day today now i am going to cut it back down to 5mg to see if this will stop how i am feeling.

These psych meds might be throwing my thyroid off and making me feel like i have the flu, its also giving me leg cramps and a headache too

Has any body ever had these symptoms while on Paxil please let me know thank you

I take lexepro but I just googled the side effects of Paxil. I did not see fatigue mentioned. I would guess your body needs to get use to the new dosage. If it continues maybe you should consider another med?

my body has a hard time getting use to meds and when it was raised to 15mg i started having the worse side effects. i was really tired, having flu like symptoms, my legs cramping really badly, and having diarrhea.

I have hypothyroidism and take levothyroxine, vitamin d3, i take blood pressure meds, losartan potassium, metoprolol, amlodipine, i also take ativan, and trazedone, i also take metformin for diabetes, i am also in menopause and meds just do not agree with me.

You need to go back to your doctors to lower the dose or give you something else that's not so strong to work along side Paxil. It's very important you share this information with your doctor you can't do this alone.

11/08? That's only what... 3 weeks? I would wait for at least 6 weeks to see whether the medication works. Feeling tired and showing flu like symptoms are frequent side effects of paroxetine. They usually disappear after a few months of treatment.

If you decided to withdraw Paxil, remember that it has the reputation of being the most difficult SSRI to give up. It would be in your best interest to speak to your doctor first as you might need additional medication to ease the withdrawal symptoms.

Yes Id say coming off heroin would be easier than paxil

Why the heck would a doctor prescribe that for you when their are so many other choices not as harsh. These doctors get kick backs from drug vendors to push and sample their products. The patients best interest is not always their first responsibility anymore. I am not saying alll doctors are bad, but some are in it for the money.

You poor thing its really upsetting when you know whats causing all these symptoms but cant just stop taking the tablet thats doing it. I really would see if you could change to another SSRI just cos your so early into it id never wish what I had to go through on anyone

Im actually disgusted with my doctor. The practice im in i see a different one now but I was so desperate at the te I would have taken anything without researching it. I have a feeling if I asked the doc ( that put me on it (and yoyoed frm 20/30) for over 4 years ) 'Would you give this to your own adult children?' It would be a big no!

If your not happy with your doctor. Move, you will be much happier with someone who listens to your needs and doesn't treat you as if you were part of an assembly line. Each one of us is unique and should be treated that way

I ended up going to a different one not intentionally n im much happier. I also got referenced to go to an affordable counselling service, got a great counsellor who straight away recommended i see a physchiatrist to see exactly what is going on with me and after 7 years on meds im.finally being seen by someone who knows their stuff. I wish id been referred to one when i first went to my doctor opposed to her 'trying out' meds on me. But sure better late than never

You are telling me. Would Drs give there own children medication and don't care if it makes them sick. Why put any body on all these psych meds. These meds can make you sick

you are right there David Drs should listen to there patients because a lot of these meds some people can take and some people can not tolerate these meds like me for instance i can not take a lot of these meds because of my sensitive stomach, and i am hypothyroidism and these meds can hurt my thyroid and plus i am in menopause i get really sensitive to a lot of these meds and i become very tired easily

what other meds can i take i have taken celexa broke out in a rash, zoloft gave me to much diarrhea what other meds can i take to help me

Im sure a good phychiatrist would be able to find you a combination of not just medication but also coping skills like counselling/CBT(didnt work for me but can do wonders i hear). Thats what you deserve-a plan that looks after you

i am in an IOP group that is helping me a lot thank you i will look into CBT and i am looking for a therapist

I really hope you find a nice one and it helps. Ive stopped mine just at the moment and I notice im more anxious without seeing someone. Are you feeling any better today?

Unfortunately doctors around here get kick backs and free samples from drug vendors trying to get their products out. It's big business strategy and no longer about the patients. Wellbutrin made me crazy but instead of switching me to something else, the doctor increased the dosage and made me even worse. And it's not like you can call them with a problem and they will see you the next day, or try to fit you in. No, you have to wait 1 - 2 weeks to get in to fix the problem. They know how to suck every penny out of your insurance company and they don't even listen to your problems, you have to see a separate therapist for that at additional cost (co pay). So what is a psychiatrist for I ask? You regular doctor has background in psychiatric medicine, he has to to become a doctor and he can prescribe meds and cares about your well being without the drug vendors influence on his prescription plan for you and therapist listen to you. I have just lived this scenario too long and it's made me bitter towards psychiatrists. I am sorry. I once got my appt cut 15 minutes short because a drug vendor was late to get back to Boston and had to see my doctor about supply.

I found a wonderful therapist. I was so lucky. She really put me at ease about everything. I could not ask for a better therapist but I live in CT. I hope you find someone just as good. You deserve the best

Have you tried a beta blocker? Or perhaps Effexor or lexapro. I love lexepro.

Im in Ireland and its bit different the doctors dont have a clue so they just read their symptom book n pick out a SSRI they think might be good. Counsellors have no authority to give meds only a phychiatrist which youd only see for say a diagnosis can chat and prescribe to you. Mine was lovely he found it strange that my doctor had put me on it for so long even without improvement. Like my counsellor says you wouldnt go to a doctor for a brain tumour youd go to a specialist. Its ridiculous over here too just in different ways

Counselor is a little over dramatic. We are not talking about a brain tumor. We are talking about a disorder that can be controlled with serotonin meds which are common to most doctors. I am sorry things are so bad for you. I truly am. I am sure I would go nuts if I lived over there. Seems like the doctors scare you and make mountain out of mole hills over there. Brain tumor? Why would he even mention it? You don't say that to someone with anxiety disorder. Gees

Yeah to be honest they dont know what theyre doing my counsellor was lovely but more casual the way shed talk to me. Quite informal. Its expensive aswell so going thru the public system is really slow

i am feeling a little bit better. At least i am not having the flu like symptoms or the neck pain and i am not as tired. The stool is still happening at times today.

The Paxil really hurt my stomach a lot. Friday and Saturday were the worst with symptoms of being tired not being able to get out of bed and flu like symptoms all day and diarrhea

I just can not take these meds at all

Informal is fine. But the counselor should know the words that certain words trigger more anxiety and worry. Words like brain tumor and cancer are absolute no nos with people with anxiety. They should always be positive side and never condescending. I agree with you that maybe the counselor doesn't quite know how to handle you. But it's okay as long as she listens because getting your worries out is what really counts. Hang in there.

no i have not i am on Metoprolol which is a beta blocker i take 12.5mg twice a day it has help with my blood pressure and heart rate a lot plus i take Losartan Potassium and Amlodipine then i am on Ativan 1mg 3 times a day and Trazedone for sleep,

Then i take levothyroxine for low thyroid, vitamin d3, metformin for diabetes

Do you take your meds with food? I lost my appetite and it's still not back really. But the doctor said I must force myself to eat. I am on lexepro and I get the diarrhea too. But I drink lots of water and take my meds with toast or something small and the diarrhea has been better.

I had to go on temporary disability at work (which is a nightmare collecting the benefit) because the doctor said I needed time to adjust to the meds. Maybe you could do the same? Give yourself a break and let your body adjust. I am not taking nearly as many meds as you and it must be hard for you to cope. I am truly sorry and would take away your pain if I could
