    Hi Tracey

Mine wasnt the same but  i I can but in here.....dont know if anyone can help.

Four weeks post op I was doing an NHS exercise  {abducting my leg to strengthen the muscle}  I had done it during my first THR and this was four weeks on from the op. Anyway there was a crack, leg gave way and Iwas taken into hospital ......I was told I had fractured the greaer trochanter bone?? and it would take a long time to heal so I would be on crutches.  A few months later I saw myconsultant {one that has done both THR's and I see fairly often} He said that it would never heal and crutches would be a permanent thing. He showed me were one bone had moved too far away to every knit together with the other bone.

    This was February 2014!!!!

It doesnbt sound like yours Tracey and hopefully it isnt. You've got sound advice from other.

    Hope everything goes well.

    Keep us updatded

    Love

eileen64......I can't believe that it will never heal.  My trochanter bone fractured also during surgery but they put a metal band around the bone and rod to "hold" it all together so it would heal.  I just had to not put weight on it for 8 weeks.  Xrays showed it knitted fine and I feel great.  Maybe get a second opinion and get that fixed somehow. They can do amazing things. Don't just give up!

      Hi Connie

Thanks for your reply.   When he showed me the X Ray and how far apart the bones were he also pointed to my first THR which had a hairline crack in it and said thats a fracture of the trochanter bone which you didnt kow about {True} but becase the 2 bones didnt seperated it healed OK.

The other thing is it was four weeks post op not during surgery

It was 15 monhs ago as well which give me little hope

      Sorry for the moan.

Its first thing in the morning and I'm sitting in quite a lot of pain hoping a couple ofpain killers will kick in soon before  start getting ready for the day

      Love

Hi Eileen seen several of your previous posts. I would assume you had second opinion on your fracture. Some surgeons are more specialised in orthopedic surgery, there must be someone out there that could help. When I had my pelvic repair I was fortunate that my surgeon had recently gone to Canada to specialise in repairing my type of injury. I was his 3rd patient to have the pioneering surgery. Because I was in a lot of pain despite surgery ( unfortunately does happen despite repair) I asked for second opinion, I was told that I was very lucky that my surgeon had been there to repair me. Sadly they could not do anything for the pain. So there might be someone out there that could help you, I do hope so.

      Hi Debbie

No I havent had a second opinion unless you can call the orthopaedic surgeon that I fist saw when it happened who said the same as the second surgeon.....2nd one was the one that had done both of my THR's

He showed me the X Ray and I ca see how far apart the bones are.

I'm fine on te crutches......have got used to them but its the pain that is so bad.

Heis trying all sorts to help that.

At the moment its cortisone injections

      Love

Thanks for the reply Eileen. I know what you mean about crutches I have been using them for 23 years now. Enables me to get about and keep the pain down.

I would still look into another opinion you never know someone else may have another view on it. I don't think they like to give more than 3 cortisone injections. I had one between my pelvic bone and spine a few weeks prior to hip replacement. I had been suffering with pain for years when I lay on my back or sat on any seat. What a r(SR jointelief, it helped me cope with the enforced laying on my back after THR

    Hi Tracey,

So sorry to hear what has happened but hope this helps. I am 62, previously very fit, had been riding a spirited horse the morning of my accident then whilst puppy training he ran under my feet, in an effort not to harm him I landed on concreate with a huge thump. Cutting a long story short, my GP receantly retired, new GP did not think it was worth expense of Xray so I went 2.5 months in agony prior to changing GP and getting an Xray. Results: multiple pelvic fractures, femur three fractures, socked destroyed, bones displaced.

I had a thr the next morning but the delay had caused massive muscle loss and now 3 months on I still need one stick but doing my exercises is building it back up. You will need to take it slowly but will be fine in the end.

Sending you big hugs and love, will keep you in my thoughts, Dot xx

awful. for the cost of an xray which they do regularly for drunks and illegals in A and E. No more riding....

I hope you wrote that GP a report of the results of his "expertise" in refusing an xray, with a copy to the GMC. They will all be complicit in covering it up no doubt. I have an 8 year battle and had to go to a different county, different Trust. The PALS office it's just an extension of their legal department and is laughable to suggest they act in.patients' interests

Dot can't imagine how you coped those months with those fractures. What a mess you were in. You were so lucky not to have had blood loss internally. So negligent of the GP. I had several pelvic fractures including the socket and was in hospital a week before they could operate. The pain was indescribable, I was immobile all that time so it is shocking to me how the hell you managed to get through that time; prior to the op. You may not feel like it while recover ing but there needs to be acknowledgement of the GP negligence. I also wish you a full recovery. I have femoral nerve damage from hip replacement and still not recovered after 18 months but coping with it as you have no choice

Hi Tracey absolutely terrible for you. I had pelvic fractures through a car accident years ago. Yes the pain is excruciating so you have my empathy. You will probably have metal work inserted. Must be very bad fracture to require further surgery. I think when we sign consent forms it does have possibility of fracture which we don't really expect to happen. The THR is a big op and a lot of hammering going on. It will have set you back a bit so you will have to be very patient as you recover which does take time. I wish you every success with the op and you make a great recovery. Let us know how it goes.

So sorry to hear about your suffering.Maybe they can cement together. Maybe it won't be too much surgery then.
