Penile Rash/Balanitis Not Responding to Treatment

Posted , 170 users are following.

This all began when it started to burn while I urinated. I went to the doctors because I thought it was a UTI, but the test came back negative. Got tested for STD's, the tests also came back negative.

Ok no big deal, I thought. Maybe this will go away on its own. I then started developing a rash on the tip of the penis and along the base that burned post urination and during ejaculation.

I did some research online and thought it was probably a yeast infection. Bought some Canesten and tried applying it twice a day for a week. I also took the pill (Fluconazole). This resulted in no change in the symptoms.

Went back to the doc, who then prescribed Fucidin H cream (Hydrocortisone 1% Fusidic Acid 2%). I rubbed it on twice a day for a week, no change.

Went to a Urologist who did an examination (but no further tests) and told me I could get circumcised, but apart from that offered no further solutions. Told me it could be prostatitis.

I then went to a Dermatologist, who looked at it and prescribed me Loprox anti-fungal cream with hydrocortisone (1%) told me to use it twice daily on the area for one month. I then switched to just Loprox because it appeared as though hydrocortisone was making the irritation worse. The Dermatologist told me to go see the urologist again if symptons don't improve.

I'm still applying Loprox two weeks into treatment, and the changes are minimal if any. The rash goes down at the tip and expands at the base, almost triangular in shape. There are small scales (or maybe cracks) in the skin, and the area is red, almost as if inflamed. I have no discharge from the penis. Any kind of friction (i.e. masturbation) makes the redness and burning much, much worse. I have been abstaining from that for now and only washing the area with warm water. I have thrown out all my heavily scented soaps.

I am in the process of attempting to get an appointment with another urologist in order to get a second opinion. Topical creams don't seem to be doing much, but I am going to keep putting Loprox on it for now. I feel like the Docs have been kind of brushing me off/don't want or don't know how to deal with balanitis. Nothing I am really doing is working, so I'm wondering if anyone else has any solutions.

The following links I will attach contain some photos of the condition I'm experiencing:

do you have an email so that i can send you all of my symptoms. i would do it here but it does not really seem to show how i want it to show.

i have read somewhere that in America a study showed that primecrolimus cream was effective in people with circinate balanitis, having looked the uk equivalent seems to be called elidal.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried it as a treatment because ive tried clotrimazole and an emuvate cream which seems to keep the symptoms at bay but they come back when i stop using it.

do you have any tips for sitting/laying down a certain way other than adjusting when the penis tip inflammation is irritated or uncomfortable? any underwear recommendations? i tried boxers which help my testicles from not being tight but the penis of course moves around more causing irritation when walking. And box briefs keep the penis from moving and being irritated however when i remove them my testicle varicoceles act up for about 12 hoyrs in and out of pain, which never happened until the inflammation started (i had an ultrasound on testes and varicoceles come and go theres no cure, but pressure adds to possible pain like from tight underwear.) Also even though i stamd and empty out my bladder completely 2 minutes after i urinate, moments later if i need to bend down about 1/3 more pee dribbles out as if i dudnt empty my bladder, so my underwear always has dribble spots now because the inflammation doesnt let the urine come out all the way even when pushed out, so my underwear always has dribbling on it after urinating when i set or stand or bend down. im expecting to have this condition for the rest of my life unfortunately as the bunch of us after years cant get anywhere to a cure, so im looking for ways to improve the disability from affecting my life, like simply sitting down without any effects.

This is a random thought since I've just moved to a new home recently and haven't had any red bumps issues yet. I've had this bizarre assumption that it could be related to a hot water heater at my old place. If I'm not mistaken, my penis bumps started appearing when a new one was installed last year and kept recurring throughout my time there. I've read some articles that do say a water source could cause eczema. Just a random suspicion of mine due to being cleared of all STDs and trichomonas/mycoplasma last year.

Most skin problems on the head of the penis and and foreskin are caused by left over urine.

Try rolling back your foreskin each time you pee and drying afterwards with toilet paper. Do this every time you pee, same after you ejaculate.

I suffered with lichen sclerosus for years, steroid creams only worked temporarily. The above method solved my problem permanently.

You will see results in a week or two. The fix is really that simple. Surgery is not required, but its often the preferred choice of the urologists.

i'm still struggling massively with this.

glans are red and bumpy when erect, like spider vessels underneath. could list more symptoms.

I have hsv1, no idea when i got it and docs say not standard herpes but convinced it has to do with this.

ive tried so much and finally got some one to prescribe pregablin for nerve irritation. Due to start soon, so praying it works.

Has anyone followed the prostatitis/ cpps path yet?

I'm still trying to get an appointment with an urologist, but they all seem to be fully booked at the moment.

I'm experiencing a reddened glans, changes in the skin texture (there seem to be scars and the texture in general appears to be scaly) and a swolen meatus. There are some small bumps as well. Also there's some kind of odor coming from the glans and the glans often is wet, which is why I thought it'd be balanitis/ fungal infection. Went to a dermatologist that could rule out herpes and any kind of fungal infection.

This has been going on for a couple of years now.

No cremes have helped, I think it has to be caused by something internal.

Has anyone experienced prostatitis or cpps? Could this cause my/our symptoms?

    Hi guys,

I have the exact same thing. The dermatologist prescribed me a steroid cream and it did reduce the redness a little. However, if I stopped using the steroid, i felt the redness came back almost immediately.

Have you guys figured out anything?

    Thanks!

I believe it is definitely bacterial. I have had sex with multiple women after having this issue and my penis reacts differently with each women. For example: girl 1 had sex and no issue (multiple times) Girl 2 had sex and inflamed like crazy where i couldn't even touch my penis it would hurt and get red like it had never gotten before with slight dots all over . Same issue kept happening with girl 2 - assuming her bacteria didn't mix with mine. Girl 3 had slight issue but dots didnt appear and wasn't as bad and could have sex again with her. Went back to girl 1 and absolutely no issue. Then went to girl 2 and came back as usual it got worse as usual with exact symptoms - to the point where i had to avoid her as we definitely could not have sex. This sucked a lot because I liked girl 2 than the rest but I realized couldn't have a future with her due to this issue and now I need to have sex before getting into a relationship to know if our bacteria matches which i think is Fu*ed up. I can handle the pain and constant burning and irritation but having to know that some girls can cause it to flare up to the point where even if it touches a little the entire thing flares up is the real downer. This thing is a curse. I hope someone finds a cure. Been having it for 4 years now. We need nanotech to come sooner as im sure it will help in the medical field.

Just a thought but suspect it would be more sensible to wear protection when with multiple partners.

Condom is not the issue, even by not having sex and simply touching girl 2 and then touching my penis, it reacts in the exact same manner.
