Perimenopause

Has anyone felt like you are numb to any feelings around you while you are in perimenopause and don't want to do anything like you have to really push yourself to work or clean and even then you don't want to?  Has anyone taken birthcontrol my doctor seems to think it will help me, but I am afraid of gaining weight and having opposite mood swings.  If anyone can offer any insight please.

Thanks,

K

I feel that way often. I have so many things to do and I just have no motivation to do it. I have to force myself to get the things done that I really have to do. It almost feels crippling.

Crippling is a great word to describe it, Jamie.

I'm hoping the Rhodiola Roseanne will get me some pep and motivation like the others I read about. Gotta hang on to some hope here

I wish I had some suggestions for you. When I have an hour of feeling ok or a day where the symptoms don't have me stuck in bed, I get a few things done. You just have to pace yourself and push through. I'm sure some of the other ladies may have suggestions on what to take to help with low mood that causes the feelings of no motivation.

Crippled is how I've been feeling for the last few months.

Same here.  It is horrible and debilitating in many ways.  I'm glad we can be here for each other.

Jamie, yes, that is good advice... when I feel better, I do get things done... you have to grab that time while you have it.  I wish I had more of it, but some is better than none.

Tell me about it. I take advantage when of those moments when I can. Yesterday I had really bad gas and could barely eat. Today I am nauseous. My cycle is due this week. If it's coming, I wish it would hurry up so this nauseous feeling would subside. Then I can somethings done.

Good advice. I felt ok waking up this morning but decided to get a few more hours of rest. And getting up the second time around I feel awful now. It's true, when you have a good hour have to get things done or else this peri is so unpredictable don't know how I'll feel in an hour.

How do you stop overeating when you are going through this.  I am going crazy looking at the scale and it keeps going up

For me it's peanut butter and jelly on crackers. But It goes back and forth with me. I get really hungry and other times no appetite.

I am having the opposite! I keep losing weight( although I could stand to lose a few pounds) but I'm losing them too quick ( 12 lbs in one month) because I don't have an appetite! I'm starving and will want something so bad until I get it or cook it and as soon as I see or smell it my appetite for it is gone.I'm literally forcing myself to eat once a day ! A hot dog here a piece of ham there and I don't know what to do.

Unico, I had the same issue, then it would lift. Now im in a partbof my cycle where im eating well and have gained 4 lbs back. But I notice at the time my cycle starts, the loss of appetite and nausea comes back. This has never happened to me before. Ive purchased some weight gain shakes to have on hand when this happens. They are packed with protein and calories. Ive always been naturally skinny then in my 30's, I packed on weight and now that I have hit 41, peri symptoms are hitting me like a brick. Hugs to you. I pray this passes soon.

That sounds like me. I lost a lot of weight quickly and it scared me so bad. I was always small and petite but in my thirties I gained a whole lot of weight. I was eating all the time. But now that these hard symtpoms have started, I have bouts of nausea and gas and I have no appetite. I have to force myself to eat. Then when that lifts I can eat again. I needed to lose so weight badly because I was huge, bloated, and gassy all the time, but I didn't want to lose it like this. But oh well. I get the nausea and bad gas in spurts. So I just deal with it as it comes.
