Amongst other things I have a terrible burning mouth, nose and tongue. It tastes metallic and sometimes it is hard to swallow. I also have a buzzing face and headaches with it.

Honestly, I am so relieved to read that I am not on my own.
Since the beginning of the year I started to develop a dry mouth, and oral thrush symptoms...the burning on the tip of my tongue is unbearable. I can just about cope with changes to my period, pains I have never suffered from..pms..but my mouth is driving me mad. it is dry, yet sticky...it was fine for a few days now, but seems to be getting worse again, also my throat feels sore sometimes. I had terrible pains in my stomach so went to the hospital, but they ignored my complaints about my mouth. turns out that perhaps I just had an infection, but I still get pains in my stomach...and my groin area, around where my right ovary would be...again...they didn't find anything...had an internal ultrasound. Also.. another strange symptom . is my skin feels itchy, but kind of underneath....it is all just too much! arghh.

the mouth, tongue and lip burning started 10 days ago for me, I thought it was from sunburn but it's not going away, my hot flashes, night sweats have increased in intensity and frequency, I finally contacted a doctor because of the mouth thing, the other symptoms while annoying, I can live with, but this burning makes it hard to eat, my lip is swollen making it hard to talk, and I'm finding that the two doctors I talked to so far don't believe it's menopause related and that it's instead some kind of allergic reaction, so I was prescribed prednisone to see if that helps, I pick it up tonight but I'm not expecting any relief, it's too much of a coincidence to not be related.

it's definitely menopause related, because mine would come when I would be expecting my periods. The first time I got it really bad both my doctor and my dentist could not figure it out. It was my periodontist that said he had read something in a health journal that women when in menopause have had similar symptoms. I don't get it as much but every once in a while it comes back.

I've had this....God, after scrolling through this message board for the first time, I feel like I've had so many of these issues!! I'm happy to report to you that it went away for me! I honestly think so much of all of what we feel is driven by our anxiety. I have TERRIBLE health anxiety and sadly my mind tends to make things worse rather than better most of the time. I had this after a bout of LPR (reflux in the voice box...fun!). It came out of nowhere. One day, my mouth just felt altered with a weird taste and burning sensation.
I'm not sure if any if this actually helped, but I'm happy to report that it DID go away! I gargled with aloe vera juice and started drinking low acid coffee (decaf was not helping so I switched to this because it was recommended to me by someone at Trader Joe's!). I also practice TM, but really made sure I was meditating teice daily. If you Google burning mouth syndrome...it's stress and more common in women of a certain age. I hope you find relief. trust me, I was sure I’d have it forever and was so happy when it finally ended!

This was very helpful, as my physician and dentist both could not identify with the symptoms.
Was wondering if anyone also had sores in there mouth. Mine tend to come when I should of been getting my period. As i'm in menopause.

Hi Michelle and all, glad I found you.I've lived with this for 2 years. I had been on anti anx / dep for 20 or so years and stopped them 12 months ago because i thought my mouth problems were a side effect of the meds. My mouth problem remained - but my mental health got a bit worse! I was diagnosed with BMS at the end of last year and put back on a different anti anx / dep med which is supposed to also help with BMS and neuropathic pain. It's called Nortripiline. I've just increased the dose today (after a checking with doc) as the BMS is all consuming - it's driving me to distraction during the day and night. It's taking over my life. i'll let you know if it works. Those of you who have had it.....does it go away? How long? x

so I went to an OB/Gyn 8 days ago and he put me on estrogen for my menopause symptoms and insisted that my burning mouth was not related to menopause, telling me about how much of an expert he was, blah blah. So I really wanted to prove him wrong by my mouth symptoms getting better with the hormones, so far, it's improved slightly, not as intense burning, but the swelling lip continues, and the inside of my mouth still feels raw sometimes, overall, it has improved, but I'm hoping that it'll get better since I really haven't been taking them for long. On another positive note, the other symptoms have way improved, hot flashes have all but ceased, I slept really good last night, here's hoping.

hi just found this website after googling bms, i had this bms a couple of years ago and i used omega 7 capsules, which are for dryness and they worked for me, then i stopped using them when it had cleared up but 2 years later its back and very sore. at first i thought it was wearing masks and visors or i thought oral thrush, but i think its bms, burning peppery feeling , sore tongue, tingling lips, so glad i found this website and people who have the same symptons, cos at first you think your doing something wrong with oral hygiene, so i will try and get an appointment with doctor and order some more omega 7.

Michelle, Yes! I have all 3! I also get shaky trembling body all day! I have so many others too! Insomnia & loss of appetite, of which my doctor thinks the loss of appetite is from me having Covid last month!

I am so glad someone posted about this!! Mine started yesterday. Its only on one side and best I can describe it is like getting novacain at dentist after it wears off and you have that burning sensation. In my lip cheeck gum and tongue all on 1 side and i have like a bad taste in my mouth. I tried googling that made my anxiety worse. Does this sound like burning mouth? On day 4 of period 43 and have been in peri for 4 years of hell
